I mean her cd is great it has no filler
i dont understand why she isnt racking up in sales like daughtry
none of her songs sound similar and her cd has many hits
her cd is better than 99% of the crap like avril ruling the charts
and im sick of idol fans putting down her sales especially bitter elliott and taylor fans
hopefully with love story she gets the sales and noteriety she desserves

Due to lack of voting for Kat and requesting on the radio stations is one of the major reasons her single and album have fallen. If only ALL Kat fans would vote at VH1, request her on there local radio stations, and on the top 40 request lines , you would see an increase in SALES

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.Others stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same. That my friends is Katharine McPhee

I for one despair that her CD sales is falling far short of Chris, and even short of Kellie Pickler. Kellie Pickler has even been nominated for the best new artist.

I would be interested to know what the theories are. Is it because her CD is out of character with what people associate her during the AI5 season? Note that her SOTR single is still going on strong. Chris' and Kellie's CDs are consistent with their persona in AI5.

Or is it the contents of her CD are, in comparison to Chris' and past idols like Carrie and Kelly C, a bit on the shallow side. Chris' songs have emotion and are edgy.

Or is it Kat is in a crowded genre, competing with Beyonce and the like, and even Kelly Clarkson? Chris, at the moment, has no direct competition.

What should her next CD be?

I don't have the answer.

What are your opinions?

I think the release date has been moved back a week. Some are speculating that could mean she's returning to Idol at the finale, which will precede LS going for adds at radio stations.

You're asking the question we all ask. I've heard it said that if you do a decent country flavored album you've got a leg up to start with. Don't ask me to dissect that. I can't. Add Carrie's voice and you've got a multi-platinum album. Some say the same thing about Rock. And Kelly C. is almost in a class by herself. And from what I've heard, there are enough Claymates to be their own zip code.

I think Katharine made it through with a hard core of die-hards like us plus an enormous boost from having Cowell give her the perfect song, which she knew exactly what to do with and did it to perfection, which got people who were then the kind of casual watcher/voter I am this year up off their butts and grabbing their phones because they were just awed by what should be in anyone's top ten Idol performances. Then damned if she didn't up and do it again the following week. Then she performed that song for the next few months until it became her signature, like it or not. Then came the album, and there was no OTR, and the sound that got pushed was going off in a whole new direction. I think maybe the world is waiting to hear something else that will wow them the way Rainbow did and they just haven't heard it yet. I can almost hear Randy whispering in my ear "Song choice, song choice, song choice." Where's that magical combination that will grab people who are just passing by and make them stop and say "Wow, what's that?" That's why we've been speculating to the point of agony over what the next single would be, and we'll probably do it again with the next one. Just my opinion, but to me, the strongest songs on the album are precisely the ones that won't get major pop airplay because they're not that kind of song. So to hit that market, they have to lead with their left. You fight with the army you've got.

Katharine may call the album "cohesive" but I think it encompasses a variety of styles. (She just likes a llot of different things, so it may feel that way to her.) Kellie may be singing about her mother in one and her red high heels in another, but they're all somehow country. Katharine's seem to span genres--is it pop, r&b, what? Some of the ballads are as traditional as you could want, or I could want, anyway. Some sound more like the jazz/r&b station that wakes me up every morning. Some tracks sound like they belong on stations I only listen to so I can figure out what the other half is up to. Maybe that makes it harder to figure out what to push, and to whom.

We all think Katharine's album is great, and it is, but I believe it's the way chart positions are calculated each week. Every week, every album is in a new competition for who sells more. For example, this week, Barbra Streisand and Michael Buble both released albums and so many people will buy those albums, it takes away from the ones that have been on the market for months. You can't really compare Kat with Kellie Pickler and Chris Daughtry, as they are in 3 distinct genres. Katharine IS competing with the likes of Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Nellie Furtado, etc. There aren't that many new country artists, so Kellie gets the nod. Carrie Underwood is no longer new.

IMO, Katharine needs that ONE song to catapult her up the charts and make her a name that people will automatically buy when a new unit is released (be it single or album) and that song I personally believe is not on this debut album. For the next album, I believe she should record some covers with depth, maybe something on the jazzy/bluesy side, something that showcases her supurb vocal abilities and I firmly believe that instead of expending so much in financial resources hiring iconic producers, hire quality producers and spend more of the budget on marketing and promotion. It is also always helpful to have her tour, whether it's in support of somebody or by herself in smaller venues. Kellie, Daughtry and even Taylor reaped huge benefits from their respective tours.

I'm not sure I have the answer, but those are my opinions.

seems to me there are several factors and some were covered above. many dismiss the impact of "time of year" that the cd was released. i believe that this is the principle reason her cd, as a new artist, is not yet near the 500k mark. when i researched last year's record sales, for the week that chris's cd was released the total weekly sales for the top 50 on the HDD charts was the highest sales week for the entire year. Obvious reason, thanksgiving and christmas.

Chris' high sales for that week probably came about form his large fan base buying large multiples of his cd. Many went for gifts. thi
