Ok, so my friend Emily was on the radio with Kat today in Montreal, and she gave me permission to post her story

From Emily:

when she gets in the studio:

i ask her off air if shes touring and she says "not in canada i dont think" the whole tyra thing- that was alll me. i told her off air im like "you were amazing on tyra, funniest thing ever". she ased me why i wasn't going tonight and I said cause I didn't get a ticket on time, and she said it sounded funbut shes not performing. the female dj was like "we'll ask him to play this tonight" and Kats like "for sure we're gonna dance and have a couple cosmos"[/quote]

That was a great part of the Montreal interview--and really sending a message to me that Canadian media is so much more generous and accessible to the general public. American radio wouldn't do something like that. The joke the DJ's made about needing to provide several pieces of ID just to get in the door is probably the reality when entering a major American radio station. The only public-oriented shows on the air here (in TV) are 'The Today Show' and maybe a few other morning shows. They allow the public to hold up signs and stuff outside windows--and interact with the hosts when they go outside. Though they also have a curtain that comes down if one of the people outside get naughty. There's also the fear of someone setting off a bomb by the window--hence the obvious public restrictions up here. In Canada, the fear of terrorism may not be as acute...which may be both good and bad.

Anyway, hearing that public interaction with Kat during the Montreal radio interview was a lot of fun. I can tell Kat feels right at home up in Montreal. And if she said Nick's obsessed with the city--you know they'll be coming back often. I've heard that from most everybody else who's visited there and in Toronto.

Interesting, by the way, that Kat apparently hasn't seen 'Canadian Idol' at all. You'd think they would have sent some tapes or something before she appeared up there several weeks back in that outdoor performance. She acted like she knew Ben Mulroney already when she was in Toronto. Though I guess people in showbiz have to pretend like they've known someone forever.
