I would love to see Kat perform Ordinary World. This is the perfect song for Idol. We saw her excel on her ballad performances during season 5, ie.; Somewhwere Over The Rainbow and Someone To Watch Over Me. Ordinary World would fit into this genre perfectly. I don't know how many of you saw her bluesy performance of Over It on VH1 but it was spectacular. I realize that Kat and her advisors want her to sing more contemporary up beat "today" type music because of the audience they attract but, Kat has such an incredible knack for ballads and they show off her remarkable voice to it's best advantage, especially for Idol she needs to sing Ordinary World!
I know it's not likely, but I am hoping that Ordinary World will be her next single. I think it will extend her audience and I think, with the right, hot video, it will be extremely popular on TRL and VH1.
You can't sell Katharine's album with Ordinary World. One, she doesn't like the song. Two, as much as some of you keep trying to hold on to this concept that she's the classical ballad singer that she was on Idol. That isn't what her album is! It would be false advertising!
Now Neglected would be a good choice. Boy that could be a sexy performance if she did it right. What am I saying? If she did it right. Of course she'd do it right!
I don't think she necessarily has to sing her next single on Idol. Personally, I wouldn't want to see her sing Open Toes on Idol if that's the choice for single #2. I think she struggled with Open Toes at AOL Sessions and we want her to sing something that she can handle flawlessly on Idol.
If she was going to sing one of the ballads on Idol...the most Pop-friendly one is Home. So that would be my choice is she went that route.
My personal choice though is Not Ur Girl. They used it on Idol at the beginning of the season and it's a fun, sassy song that still allows Kat to sing & show some of that personality she says she didn't show on Idol.
Well, that's part of what her album is. But they seem to think that part will sell itself. It's just not what they're pushing. Well, I suppose Over It is a concession of sorts in that it's not a sassy dance tune, although it has a modern sound to it and I usually hear it described as a classic pop ballad.
Maybe some people are making a distinction I don't, in that I tend to lump her Idol ballads and the ones on the album into the same category. I know she didn't record standards per se, and Home and Ordinary World and BOA and Neglected haven't stood the test of time, but I just love all of those songs (okay, the combination of the song and the singer, although I liked BOA the way Austin did it too) and as far as I'm concerned, she did make the album for me--me and a lot of other people. It's all over the place stylistically. Maybe some people think that's a drawback.
