Kat said on mm that it was a contender for the next single
what do you guys think of it being chosen and how do you think it will fare on the charts?

imo. im happy that it is being considered because kats voice shines in this piece and it is alot  more urban than over it.
i believe that if given the right treatment for the video which im hoping for is hot and steamy
the song would fare better than over it and be a bridge for  open toes as the summer single.

I never particularly cared for Each Other prior to AOL Sessions and, therefore, I think it will make a great single. Didn't like Over It and it is performing, don't like Each Other and it likely will be successful too.

Although I like Each Other, I'd prefer to see Neglected or Everywhere I Go be Kat's next single. Both are terrific songs and radio friendly for the top 40 stations. Of course, Home is my favorite but I think the others would probably do better on the type of stations she wants to get airplay on.

I love Each Other, but I would prefer for her to release an upbeat song like Love Story or Open Toes.

EACH OTHER may be an ok song, but if i were kat or somebody from RCA, i will not even consider this in the list of potential singles. the song is mediocre and of the same tempo as OVER IT. my vote goes to either NEGLECTED or OPEN TOES. kat needs a big radio hit...these 2 songs may have a chance, although a bit risky.

Actually, tempo doesn't matter for this issue. We would like the single to be a track that showcases Katharine's unique timber and superior vocal abilities. I think Each Other does just that without heavy backup vocals. It has a good tune, a decent hook and it would be easier to perform live than Over It. Each Other has a somewhat bluesy feel to it which renders it unique, but personally I would prefer Not Ur Girl to be released as a single. The basic rock beat would attract any demographic out there and Katharine's vocals shine. It's a better earworm and would fare better in dance clubs.

my personal favorites: neglected, better off alone and everywhere i go....i think kat's vocals shine with better off alone. open toes is not the best song, but could hit big on the radio, esp during summertime.
i performed a some sort of experiment....i played kat's cd over and over at home and at the office. most of them never watched AI and didn't care about kat at all. when asked what they think of the cd, those 4 songs stood out...one even bought the cd because of neglected and better off alone. my bro's kids on the other hand loved open toes.
it's not difficult to spread mcpheever in the mcpheelippines. maybe EACH OTHER will still have a chance here. after all, it reminds me of WE BELONG TOGETHER (one of the biggest singles this decade)

I like Each Other and its a good song, but as another in the thread stated, if they are going this route I would prefer Everywhere I Go which is a similar style song but is even better and I think has a better radio hook. With that being said, I also think that Not UR Girl would absolutely be the best choice for the next single.

I loved Each Other the first time I heard it and I think it would be a great second single. Though I'm leaning more towards thinking she should release an upbeat, dance type track like Love Story or Not UR Girl. Over It was kind of a mid-tempo song and so is Each Other. I think they're a little similar and people may not separate the 2 at first listen. I agree that it does sound very much like We Belong Together. . .which is a great thing because Mariah was very successful w/ that song. I don't think Kat would be compared as the vocal stylings are not similar at all.

I sort of had the feeling Kat was giving out a "maybe" on 'EO' being the next single in that recent radio interview. Her management probably ultimately makes the decision...and they likely tell Kat a lot of stuff that's on the drawing board that she doesn't know all the details to. Well, they obviously have business meetings later once it becomes finalized. But I think Kat hears things from her people that may or may not happen. I'd say that 'EO' being the next single is still all up in the air...though quite interesting that it at least was strongly considered.

As far as I'm concerned, Kat's next single could be anything and it'd please me. From a marketability standpoint--I'd have to agree that 'Not Ur Girl' or even 'Neglected' might be better. We've already overanalyzed the reality that 'Open Toes' would be the most logical for a summer thong song. And then there's poor 'Love Story' that always seems to get to the head of the line and then put on a waiting list. Strangely, 'LS' still is seen high on the list of downloads over at places like Rhapsody. It's still second to 'Over It' in popularity over there...even if it's way down on the Top 100.

It just seems there's so many disparate ways of looking at what might work as a second single that it seems to be leading to more indecision than anything else. It shouldn't be that tough to figure out which single would work the best in my mind. I'd have to go with the overly basic thought that releasing a slower song might not be the best thing when then there's more lively (and more original) choices to be had. 'Neglected' should still be released as a single somewhere along the line...though I agree that it shouldn't be the second single.

I'd just go with the thought that 'EO' is a maybe at this point rather written in stone. Most likely (and because the next single will be released closer to summer)--they're ultimately going to pick something that reflects summer attitudes and feelings. On the CD, that'd be either 'Not Ur Girl' or 'Open Toes.' Also, there's that lost bonus track alternative of 'Beer Barrel Polka.'

If we're thinking summer play, "Not Ur Girl" or "Open Toes".  If we're thinking  star composer connection, maybe "Everywhere I Go" by Babyface.

We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

Even though Everywhere I Go is IMO the best song on the CD and my favorite as well, it will NOT be the next single unfortunately. The next one will definitely be a Nate Hills song. All other choices are off the table at this point if the story about the 2 single commitment Nate Hills got is true, which I believe to be the case. So we are down to:

Love Story
Open Toes
Not Ur Girl
Each Other
Dangerous
Neglected

One of those six will be it. To me Dangerous is out as it wasn't supposed to even be on the CD.

I'm still hoping against hope it is Not Ur Girl. I STILL believe that is the best choice. Open Toes second and then Each Other. I also agree that the fact that Love Story is her alternate live song these days tips the scales against it.

So to me it's down to NUG, OT and EO. and no matter which one is chosen I will be happy with it.!

Have you heard Kelly Clarkson's new, "Never Again".  If this becomes a hit (I don't like it), then I guess,  an upbeat, realllly upbeat single needs to be the next release, no ballads need apply, sorry.

There will be at least 3 more singles released from this album, therefore, the next one can be just about anything. Hopefully, they will solicit our opinion before it's a done deal.

Why does the fact that she performs LS a lot hurt its chances to be a single?

I keep coming back to the fact that they named Over It, LS and Home as singles on that album sticker. Unless things have changed drastically since then, LS fits the bill on all counts: it's Hills, it's being pushed and made visible, and they kind of already said so. And I don't even like the song very well, so I certainly don't have any kind of agenda where it's concerned.

I am actually starting to feel that it will be the two PromoSquad songs, Each Other and Open Toes followed up with Babyface's song. That will be four singles and it should be a fairly solid sampling of what is on the album. I don't see the retro groove Not Ur Girl and Love Story being singles and I know a lot of people have strong feelings otherwise.

Here's my thoughts.  My favorite uptempo song on the CD is Not Ur Girl.  My favorite midtempo is Neglected.  My favorite ballad is Home.  But none of that matters.

I don't think Each Other would be a bad choice at all.  Why?  Well...it would get played on A LOT of radio formats.  And that's important.  Katharine needs to hit many places she hasn't hit with Over It.

Two, I want the next single to feature Katharine's vocals.  Over It doesn't do that entirely.  There are spots in the song that I cringe a little because of what they did to her voice.  She's better than that.  And a song like Each Other doesn't have a whole lot of tricks to it.  I like that.

Here's the reasons I think they would go with Each Other.  It's an alternative to Over It.  She's singing about being happy in love instead of being heartbroken and such.  Also, it's got lots of crossover potential on radio (very important).  I know it gets compared to Mariah but Over It got compared to JoJo.  That's a nice step upward!  It's not like Mariah's song is new...I could see the problem if "We Belong Together" was a fresh single.

I think the contenders for this are Each Other, Open Toes and Not Ur Girl.  Seems to me like the second half of the album isn't even being thought about for single potential from what we hear.

We've discussed this so much...I just wish RCA would tell us already.  My preference with those three songs is NUG, EO, OT.  But I could go with any of them.  As long as it isn't Dangerous...I'm cool with it.

All I'm really concerned about is the fact that Each Other seems to sound a lot like Over It, at least in terms of genre bracket (or whatever). In my opinion, the single next to Over It should be a little more uptempo and a little less 'RnB', like Love Story or Not Ur Girl, or even Open Toes (but maybe it's not time for that yet)! Although Each Other is one of my favorites off Kat's debut, I think it should not be the second single... I actually think it should have been the first!

It's only a contender at this stage, and I like the song a lot. It's a solid song, not my choice for a second single but good enough to lure some ballad lovers.

I've checked out all of the posts in this thread, and several others. I've also posted some opinions of my own on this subject in other threads. I like EO a lot, and I agree w/ "sjwolves" that this is a song about being "in love", rather than "heartbroken", and I think that gives it BIG "hook" in many markets & audiences! After all, who does like a great "Love Song", eh? And, make no mistake, EO is a GREAT love song!

That having been said, I have to admit that there's some strength to the argument that an up-tempo song would also make a good next choice. With that in mind, I just checked out one of the online download sites, to see what's one of Katharine's most downloaded songs.... and... right now on Rhapsody "Love Story" is 2nd only to OI for "Katharine Downloads". It's even beating out such Kat favorites as OT, and SOTR! Is that an indication of how popular it would be? Perhaps.

So, an up-tempo song,... and a great love song,... AND a song that Kat performs excellently "Live",... a song which would likely appeal to a very wide audience,... and it's a Nate Hills song,... plus it could easily make a great next videio... all wrapped up in one! Hmmm, I think, as much as I love EO, I'm going to have to cast my vote for LS to be the next single.

Oh, and BTW, here's Katharine's rating on some of Rhapsody's charts:

Top Tracks: OI is #7 overall
Top Albums: Katharine McPhee is #7 overall
Top Artists: Katharine McPhee is #9 overall

... and that's all AHEAD of tracks and/or CD's by Taylor, Chris, Eliott, Hillary Duff, Justin Timberlake, Christine Aguilera, Avril Lavigne, Jessica Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, etc, etc, etc....

How's THAT for some great ratings against some Heady Competition!! :^)
