Do you guys think Kat has a chance of going "Gold"? Her first shipment was 375,000 cpoies I think. Her next shipment depends on which stores want her cd. If her cd does well, then they'll want more copies. Walmart is the biggest distributor of cds, but she is no longer on their websites top 100 cds. Does this mean that the "Gold" certification might not happen?

Kat's album has settled into 10-11K sales/week. Since she is officially at 291k now, at the current rate the album will sell gold within 20 weeks from now, and it should ship gold much sooner. Of course another big hit combined with the summer radio concerts may cause sales to rise enough to hit gold by early to mid summer.

I truly believe she'll eventually go platinum as well as gold. She produced a very good album. But not every CD is an instant hit. The second single will be critical for her, but I also believe even one song used in the right way can shoot that album back up to the top of the charts. Such as tying one of the songs, to a hit summer movie. To a commercial, or one stellar performance by Kat at a high profile function. Such as one of the bigger award shows. Despite the video and radio play, I still think most people have no clue what's on her CD, or even that she has one out. People usually have to be hit over the head to take notice of anything, they definitely don't go looking! Which is why it's such a big thing that she's not only going to be on Vh-1 this week but starting at the #1 position. There'll be a lot of first timers who will hear her on that show, and will take notice of it just because it's a #1 song.

I've always believed Kat's CD will go the way of her OTR single. Which after 41 weeks is still selling strong, but which didn't really kick into long term sales until well after it's release. And that was without any video and next to no radio play. But appeared to be triggered by several appearance late last year.
Her CD will catch on, just gonna take time.

Yup, I have full confidence in this album reaching platinum too. It may take a year, but it's going to get there. I'll even go out on a limb and predict that Kat will have a platinum Christmas this year!

I agree.  It will be certified gold, platinum is a long way off, but a possibility.

I like the way you think and agree that it's just a matter of time for this CD to get the recognition it deserves. It will undoubtedly go gold, but if it does go platinum it's going to take quite some time.

They will not even consider releasing another single until Over It has made its full impact and starts to drop off.  Over It hasn't even peaked as yet.  It is a slow process and it has another couple of months before dropping off the charts completely.  This morning during a radio interview in Toronto, Katharine said that the next single will probably be Each Other.  Nobody is talking about it now because it is so early for that.

Oh boy, our favorite topic for endless speculation. Did she actually say "probably" be the next single? So she just had a meeting with her management (or somebody) about the radio tour according to the blog. So who's she talking about? Guy or RCA. Because RCA's going to decide the single. So was she just very recently talking to people who know about these things? And immediately thereafter said Each Other was "probably" going to be the next single? Oh to be a fly on the wall.

So now I'm just going to be patient and tell myself she'll get NEXT YEAR's Christmas boost. To platinum, to infininity, and beyond! Thank you Buzz Lightyear.

If you live in D/FW and don't visit fan sites you would never know Kat has a CD on the market. When Kat has a single that gets airplay in some of the major markets that are not currently spinning OI, she will rocket to platinum in a matter of a few weeks.
While she is getting a few spins in LA, she is not in regular rotation on the major stations, same with Dallas and Chicago.
Why? Who knows? Go figure.

Posted by robdaman05 @ IDF this morning:

I just got the American Idol People special magazine ( great magazine) and also the new American Idol magazine. I spent like $15 between the 2 magazines, but I love my Idol. Anywho, so I was flipping through the American Idol magazine where they had a recap of all the released AI5 cds so far. They had her finishing place, fast fact, the title of the cd, what we thought and also Stand out tracks:

Stand out tracks: "The soft then soaring ballad "Ordinary World" and the flirtatious "Love Story""

Then they have how well the cd is doing. Kellie: Gold, Elliott: New Release, Daughtry: Double Platinum, Taylor: Platinum, Paris: New Release, Bucky: New Release and Katharine: Gold

Also they had another article about how she is taking the media world by storm and all the promo she has done. She is also featured ALOT in the People special magazine as well

Hopefully, with all the extra airplay on VH1 and MTV, sales should boost Katharine's CD! If an extra CD shipment is required, this would probably push it GOLD status! Also, in a previous thread people were wondering if Kat's CD would outsell Elliott Yamin's debut. At this point, looking at the charts-I would say 'YES!'

That sounds like RCA being happy with steady weekly sales, or retailers figuring she's going to keep selling, because she really hasn't sold gold yet. Such an odd certification method. It's like an Olympic judge saying "Well, he looks really good up there in the air and he's never missed a triple yet, so let's just score him before he lands."

Taylor shipped platinum right from the start, but his sales are nowhere near platinum.

The reason RIAA hasn't certified it yet is because most retailers have an opt out clause with their purchases; meaning that if the stock just sits on the shelves, they have a certain period of time to return them.  Once that time frame passes, the retailers are stuck with the merchandise, and it's technically sold.  I don't see Katharine's CD sitting on the shelves, but the RIAA usually waits for this time period to pass before certifying a release as either GOLD or PLATINUM.
