Randy and Paula have such contempt for Katharine.  I mean it is REALLY sickening.  Katharine is in the finale and last night Paula was on Larry King for a full hour and the only thing she would say regarding Kat was that she should have been voted off the night Chris was and that she gets her votes primarily from young teen girls that want to be like her.  Of course, Randy was quoted last week as saying she would be voted off before she even performed and has been predicting a guy winner the whole year.  I know that Randy and Paula DO want a guy to win this year but I think it is beyond that.  They truly seem to not like Katharine one bit and make no bones about the fact that they don't want her to win and appear to give her no credit for being the incredible talent that she is.  I think most of us are reasonable adults here who have pretty much all come to the conclusion separately that Kat is one of the best vocalist to ever appear on AI (and some of us think she is THE best) so I just don't understand even with their built in biases why 2 of the 3 judges continue to put her down at every turn.  I have heard rumors that Kat's Dad complained to them after their harsh comments when she sang IHN and maybe that had an effect or maybe their is something else like they see her as privileged but I have never seen a contestant that the judges had such a bias against that obviously a large segment of the public love.  And now we are getting some of the media jumping in saying things like she is the worst finalist ever on AI or she smiled too much when she found out she was in the finale, blah, blah, blah.  Simon doesn't do her a lot of favors and I heard he predicted Taylor to win for asinine reason like he had more people show up at his homecoming but at least he seems to be more fair than the other 2.  If anyone else has any theories as to why the judges would feel she is SO undeserving to be in the finale I would be interested to hear them.  For me, if Katharine had not auditioned for AI this year and been on the show, it would have been the most boring season of AI EVER.  Their have been some other talented people on this year for sure but none with the unique star quality that Katharine has.

Katharine is THE american idol. Why dont people realize that?? i dont get it. she has the most amazing vocal talent throughout AI history! plus shes gorgeous and sweet. i just dont get why the judges would be so harsh to her. i have never seen the judges say mean things about a contestant to the press or say "she should have gotten votted off weeks ago". somethings just not right. its as if american idol or fox is trying to sabbotage her. i dont get it tho. w/e the McPHANS know shes the REAL AMERICAN IDOL!

Here is another example, I brought this over from a post on the AI board:

The judges (Randy and Simon) were doing an interview and this is what they had to say in reference to Chris and Katharine...“The public, they control the show. If we had our way we’d bring him back and we’d say to one of the finalists next week ‘it’s a joke, you’re not in the finals.” AHHHH.... THE BIAS IS KILLING ME, BUT WE WILL SHOW 'EM!!!!!

Now, if I was Kat, once this concludes I would want nothing to do with the people associated with AI ever again. I mean can you imagine these comments being made by Simon before the finale and then potentially being contractually forced to sign with his record label. Sickening.

And Simon's comment couldn't be rude anymore. None of these judges are supporting Kat. Just take all these as MOTIVATION and vote your butt off for her on Tues nite. We gotta make her win. This is the best way to response to their comments. The look on the judges' face would be priceless.

I was watching Paula on one of the morning shows yesterday and when she was asked who she thought was going to win, she said she wasnt going to say, but then she said that Simon didnt even want Taylor to go through to Hollywood and they've proved him wrong.
So, I dont know if they are doing this all to get back at Simon....
I was watching some of the performances from Kat and Taylor and the comments from the judges and Randy and Paula have always said that they love taylor, they never said that he was the best singer, but they say he is a fun performer...
I think Paula has always had something against Kat, I dont know what though.... the only thing Paula ever says is that Kat looks beautiful...

I'm starting to begin to think that they were encouraged to support a guy this year because there has only been one guy winner....

This weekend, I'm going to watch all of Taylor's and Kat's performances and write down what the judges say and analyze it.... because I have no life lol.... actually I am completely obsessed with American Idol and of course KAT!! ok...im gonna stop rambling

I think everyone is making way too much over this comment. It doesn't single out Kat;everyone is just ASSUMING he's talking about Kat, not a particularly McPhaithful thing to do. The main point of this comment is that they REALLY wanted Chris to be in the final, not the 2 that are. But hey, we all knew this for a long time. It's nothing against Kat. Now I really believe that Randy and Paula are for Taylor and Simon is for Kat. Let's face it, if Simon wasn't for Kat he wouldn't have picked SOTR for her. And I don't believe Randy and Paula actively dislike Kat, I just think they are bitter, like so many fans, that she made it through instead of Chris (and Elliott in Paula's case). And even though we believe Kat far outclasses the other contestants, many see her as JAGS (Just Another Girl Singer) in a contest which has been dominated by girl singers the last 3 of the last 4 years. I say, to each his (or her) own.

Kat IS the BEST in AI history! I believe all of the guest stars in this season have pointed that out as well. I just don't understand why a lot people are going against her, especially the judges. What's up with them?? Maybe they really are pushing for a male idol.

Yes, I was addicted to AI before, but only in season 2 (because of Clay Aiken that is). I was watching on and off for season 3 and 4, but season 5 ... I am a total AI Freak ... and the only reason I watch AI is only because of Kat. If Kat wasn't in the show, I don't think I'll be watching the show regularly.

Sometimes I do wonder, would I be an AI freak for season 6? Answer: If there's someone as good as Kat or even better. But I doubt that. Our lovely Ms. McPhee has set the bar very2 high (plus, she has everything she needs to be an idol.. she's just PERFECT!).

While you're at it watch some of their comments on other contestants' performances....i.e. Elliot and Paris. Take not of how they sugar coat bad performances for other contestants, and how for Katharine they just say their point or like lately don't even comment on that performance. And when they do try to sugar coat they just she is beautiful. I have noticed the differences since the final 12 started.

As for the topic - I don' think it's right for a judge to be able to express these type of opinions in the media or on the show. Even though they don't directly decide who wins, their comments do have some influence over people and the media. I admit at times, I'll watch a performance of someone and think it was good or maybe bad, but then the judges will say the opposite of what I thought..then I question my original opinion. And I have to go back and watch to make sure I heard it right.

Same here, I didn't watch AI to much since AI2(love, love that Clay).  I watched on and off, but didn't vote.  I voted last year in the finals for Carrie because I got sick of the bashing that went on for her.  I remember in AI2, Ruben's fans were bad at bashing Clay.

But this is so much worse!!!  I feel really sorry for Kat.  Thank God she doesn't have time to read anything.  I don't care how much is lies, it still would hurt.

But look at this way,  even if she doesn't win, she still has won!!  Look at AI2, who is the superstar from that season?  THE RUNNERUP!!!!!

By the way the three stooges hated Clay too.  They made it known then also. 
Hopefully Kat fans will ban together and tell the three stooges

There's no question that Kat has star quality, we've known it from the beginning. I agree, Kat is the best vocalist this show has had. I was never into this show as much as I am now. It's Kat's fault that I can't think of anything else but her. She is the sweetest, most real person. And the voice of an ANGEL!! I'm thankful for American Idol, because, it was one night last year that Kat was sitting with a friend watching the show, and said, "I could do that". Thank God she went for it, because otherwise we wouldn't have this crazy pheeling we have right now. She has brought joy into my life, and I feel that love is in the air all around, and I owe that pheeling to Miss Katharine McPhee!!

Let me say this.

Since the beginning of this season's "American Idol", Randy and Simon have predicted that a guy would win "American Idol", this year.

Yes, they do have a guy in the final 2. Taylor Hicks.

I have not been impressed with Taylor at all. He reminds me a bit of Charlie Rich and Bob Barker combined. And Taylor's dancing is horrible to say the least.

Katharine is the "American Idol", because she takes chances, and the judges "slam" her, because she picks wrong song choices.

Ever since the "I Have Nothing" performance, Katharine has shown me something that we have not seen. Guts. Her performance of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", was incredible last week, and she has to give 3 great performances this Tuesday, and if she can pull it off, she'll be the new "American Idol."

And with 3 phone lines this Tuesday, and the big plus, at least 4 hours to call, we have a great chance to win. Katharine needs us more than ever before.

Completely agree, i don't know why i clung so much to kat. I could be because she is unique, she has the star factor, she is beautiful, she is talented and gifted and so on.
I think that she has something that nobody has.
I dunno why the judges are so blind, like i said in another thread, i think that they lost their sense, and DO NOT realize who is a star and who is not!
We have to show them that they're wrong, we have to vote her a lot!

I think you are being a little too diplomatic on this one.  While I do agree that they REALLY wanted Chris to be in the final, just as much they REALLY didn't want Katharine and that is what I don't understand.  To me this has been obvious from the Top 12 where they would not even mention Kat as a top 3 or even top 7 finalist (by Simon) and the judges comments kept getting more and more negative every week as the competition rolled on.  I mean I believe I can say with confidence that Kellie would not have gotten near this poor of treatment had she remained in the competition like Kat has.  Yes, the oddsmakers have always had Katharine pretty high but absolutely not the judges.  Only since she made the top 4 would Simon even give her a mention as he did on GMA and Randy and Paula still have never gave her a chance in you know where of winning this thing.   The real ironic thing to me is that Simon always says he is looking for someone with that "wow" factor or "it" factor and yet they have one with Katharine that totally has that and I guess are to blind or biased to see it.  Chris is probably the only other one that had it this year (not for me but I could see where people that like his style of singing would be big into him) but unfortunately his own fans let him down.

Simon may have wanted a guy in the finale, but I don't think he wanted the guy who got there. Maybe he wanted Chris/kat. It's hard to figure him out, but sometimes he seems kind of like a tough-love-daddy-figure who sets challenges and says If you can do this, I'll praise you to high heavens, but if not, I'll rip your guts out. If you've got the guts to go for it, and make it, he'll let you know in no uncertain terms like he did with OTR. I think he wanted her to do well and gave her a perfect song--if she could figure out what to do with it. She did. And he told her she was The Best Ever. I think Simon put her in the finals by giving her just the right hurdle to jump over, and she cleared it with lots of space to spare. The fan bases may have canceled each other out and let the rest of America do the talking. And they got McPheever that night.

Did anyone notice that paula said she hoped Chris, or Elliott or Taylor would win, or something like that, and then added and Katharine has a right to be there to. Damning with faint praise?

I just watched the videos on that FOX site and they made me so mad!!! What do they have against kat? Simon said Taylor will win because he has the south behind him.... he didnt say because he is the best singer in competition, which is what I thought American idol was about.

I think all three judges are just ticked because they all felt Chris should be in the finale. He is who they all wanted to win and he's gone. And because Kat survived that week and Chris didn't, they all feel negatively toward her. This is the obvious conclusion, right? 

And yes, I agree with everyone who is pointing out that none of the judges ever say to Taylor "you're a great vocalist" "amazing singer" because he's not! He's good, he's really good but most of that comes from his energy and enthusiasm for what he does. It seems Randy and Paula can only tell him "I love you" "You're such a great performer"... Yeah, hi! It doesn't take a genius. At least Simon admits that if Taylor wins it's only because he has the South behind him. Now that is logic I can at least agree with.

Katharine is technically the best vocalist AI has ever seen, IMO, but for some mysterious reason she's getting no love from the judges. Could it be because she is not from No Where, USA? Or perhaps it's because when she decided to tryout for AI it was more or less on a whim. Sort of an "ok, sure, why not" moment and so maybe the judges think she is too blase about the competition. "She'll probably make it some way or another, so let's just ignore her obvious talent and pull for one of these other guys..." Could it be because she's already so polished and pretty and already looks the part of a star? She has no sad backstory to lean on. What she has is pure, raw talent; shouldn't that be enough? I don't know, I'm just coming up with possible reasons as to why the judges clearly do not want Kat to win, and in turn have turned off a lot of casual AI watchers/voters from supporting her either.

AI sets out to make poor Joe Blo from Iowa the NEXT BIG SUPERSTAR, but Kat is a Hollywood girl and maybe they think it's too easy? Some freaked logic if you ask me. All I can say is whatever, Randy and Paula. Wake up and realize you have to leave the bias at home. Chris is gone! Kat is here to win! Get over it, man!

And any person with ears could tell you, after last week's breathtaking performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, there is absolutely no room for doubt just who is THE real singer in this competition. Kat deserves to win.

I'll be voting.

 You're exactly right; the odds makers have had Kat #1 or #2 the whole season. So why can't these "professional" judges see what the oddsmakers can? The obvious answer is they can and they do! So what's the deal with their behavior? Well, its either one of two things. #1- they have wanted Kat all along, but are afraid of the public losing interest in the show, or screaming that she is a "ringer" and/or the show is "fixed". So the whole season has been an elaborate and well executed ruse. Or #2- They (producers and/or Simons company) decided early on that they wanted a guy, and they saw Kat as a threat to that plan. So they have been beating her down ever since she got into the top 6. Now Chris is gone though, Simon is OK with Kat winning. There you have it, 2 choices. Id prefer it were #1, but I am afraid it is #2. Either way our friends at AI are manipulating the heck out of the show.

Just an effort to keep the show fresh and the ratings up. I personally think girl solo artists almost always outsell guy solo artists.

Exactly. Right from the beginning, AI's hidden agenda is to find a guy for this year. No doubt about it. That's why you keep hearing them mentioning Chris and Taylor.
 
Kat is an odd one and accidentally stepped into their picture. Now this girl is beautiful and can really sing, that means she has the whole-package to win. This situation wasn't that obvious in the first few weeks. So everyone (the judges) were kind of easy and quite honest. As weeks past, Kat's popularity was getting higher and higher and her fan base grew enormously. (Did anyone notice she is the only one whose fan base keeps growing? She started off with a small fan base but now she can stand beside Taylor.)

Now the judges were getting nervous since the vote results were not what they wanted to see, and Kat gradually becomes a real threat to their picks. They were getting desperate and tried every way to steer the voting audience with their comments. They tried really hard to keep Kat from advancing but it seemed that it's beyond their control.

Kat's voting power has become stronger and stronger to the point that their planned winner (Chris) was being voted off. Now everyone changed from desperate to panic and anger because that's totally against what they want and they were totally out of control. Their last hope was to have Elliot eliminate Kat but that didn't work either. Now they are really scared that she would win. Since the mass audience don't listen to their comments anymore, their last resort is to use every psychological tactics to infuence the mass so that they will not vote for Kat. Actually, Taylor is not their first choice. But since Chris got booted, they have no other choices and they would rather have Taylor win than Kat.

As for Paula, she just simply likes guys and doesn't like girls, period. Look at how emotional she got during Chris and Elliot's leaving. Enough said. Since both of her favorites were kicked out by Kat, how much you think she likes Kat?

What I believe now is very simple. If Kat outperforms Taylor on Tuesday, she'll get the crown, regardless of whether they like it or not. No, I don't believe they are dare to temper with the vote results. And the equation is:

[Kat Phans] + [Unbiased Voters based on performance] > [Soul Patrol] + [Kat Haters]

Its really insane on how much she is getting bashed right now. There has to be another agenda, its never been this bad. When its all over and done with, people wont even remember what the bad things they said about her. Which is sad....

I think Simon has been fair to Kat this year: he has always liked her, and really, the only performance he slammed her for was "I Have Nothing" and the next night he apologized. He said "Against All Odds" was, in part a mess, which I thought put it mildly. And on Elvis night he admited that she was at a disadvantage.

Still, I think he has underrated her, but I don't think hes resentful that she is in the Top Two, either. I know there are Chris fans here, but I personally am glad he didn't make it to the Top Two. But thats besides the point. As for his opinion that Taylor will win the competition, the odds are in his favor. Right now everyone is betting that he'll be the next American Idol, so it doesn't bother me that Simon realizes his fan base, and assumes he'll win.

As for Paula, I've always liked her, but her treatment of Katharine really bothers me...especially with what she said on Larry King. And Randy is just irritating. In any other year, I think they'd rave about her every chance they got. This one, they are obviously trying to push ANY guy to be the winner...I like Taylor, hes always been my second favorite, but his performances have NOT been consistent. And most of what are considered his good ones, have a lot of vocal problems. I do agree with Simon that "You are so Beautiful" was his best performance, but it did not illicit the same moment Kat created with SOTR and STWOM. Katharine has had a few inconsistent performances as well, but they've all been within the last few weeks (excluding this most recent one).

Yeah, I don't know why I bolded that. But anyway. Bottom line is the judges/producers want a male winner.

When both of their albums came out ... we'll see who'll sell more records ... It doesn't take a genius to know the answer to that ... Of course it's gonna be Kat. I'm sure the judges are all aware of that.. but they just doesn't want to admit it...

Ohhhhh those 3 stooges ... what are they thinking??!! They already got a BIG STAR infront of their eyes ... and yet they do not want to admit that ...

It pains me that we are hurting for Kat. We truly could feel the biased attitude and specially from Randy and Paula. All I can say is that it motivates me to crush their hearts so that they would feel how we feel. However, I am afraid that we don't really know if they are going to count all of our votes or even tell the truth about our votes. Last week if you noticed, AI posted the percentages but they did not say who was the top vote getter. Everyone just assumed that was Taylor. One reason is because of Dialidol and secondly because I truly believe that even if that was Kat, they won't say it is Kat. It will always be Taylor. So I hope our votes truly count. I am apprehensive but I will keep on voting just in case. I have faith in the Lord that He will allow the truth to happen.
