Tonight, simon said he was not surprised at Katharine being in the bottom two. I don't think he meant that in a negative way toward her as much as simply the fact that he recognizes that AI is no more than a popularity contest. How well someone sings has nothing to do with it, other than the fact that presumably people are not going to be voting for someone who doesn't sing well. But then again, Bucky wasn't in the bottom three, so go figure.
I really thought Katharine would be sent back as third lowest, but then when she wasn't, I thought for sure she was gone. If nothing else, this week should be a wakeup call for the American Idol voters. Clearly the audience did not approve of the vote.
In the past years, like the year Clay got second, for example, supposedly many people could not get through to vote. Plus there are always the claims of people setting phones to vote over and over. Because they never reveal the votes each week, you never really know where people stand. There have been claims that the whole thing is rigged. I am sure many felt Katharine would be safe for weeks. Was her vote even close to the girl who got booted tonight? Who knows? Was she really second to last in voting, or did AI just say she was for dramatic effect?
The bottom line is, Katharine has proven week in and week out that she deserves to be in the top 4, if not the top 2 (and I would clearly vote her #1 by the way). If anyone saw the new Rolling Stone, it essentially ranked her and Chris as the top two (calling her this year's sexpot, by the way, in case you missed it).
I guess what really grates on me is that ALL the other contestants have been inconsistent. Yes, most have shown flashes of brilliance, but then they have followed it up with a poor performance (like Kellie, Elliott, Paris, etc.). Chris really has shown that he can do one thing pretty well. One reason they have themes is to let America see how well-rounded people are. Chris cheats the system every week by turning it into a modern rock song. I was real glad to see Simon finally get on him for that.
Guess that is all for now.
I'm extremely nervous to see next weeks outcome. I'm going to vote until the lines close. I don't want Katharine gone. Some people think that they just say that great singers are in the bottom three just to scare them, but I don't think so. Last season when Bo Bice was in the bottom three, Ryan Seacrest said that he was surprised. I don't think that he would have said that if Bo wasn't really in the bottom three. Anyway please please please vote next week! I can't go through with this again!
