This was posted in a birthday project thread over in Katharine Chat but no one has responded. So I thought I'd try again!

Hey All! I have a great new idea for a birthday present for Kat.

Instead of giving more to Lollipop Theater Network (been there, done that), I thought we could each do something locally. This will also allow the McPhans without spare cash (and international McPhans) to participate. So we can each do a service of some kind in our hometown or write a check to a local organization if time is what we are short on. Then (here’s the fun part) take a picture of yourself and a representation of the event. For example, if you volunteer at a hospital, take a picture or yourself and a patient (like Kat). Or if you write a check to a food pantry, take a picture of yourself with a pile of cans and a check. I think you get the idea. Also, write a little paragraph explaining who you are, where you live and what you did, maybe even how Kat inspired you. I can take the paragraph and put it on the back of the photo (maybe laminate it). I envision Kat spreading out all the photos on a table and very quickly (she’s busy, you know ;>) ) looking at all she inspired at a local level. Then she can randomly flip a photo over and read the “back” story (pun intended!) if she has time. If you guys agree and someone with her address will send them for me, we can get started.

I’m very excited by this idea (okay partly because it’s mine!). But I think Kat will really appreciate it. She doesn’t need us to buy her something material – she has plenty of money to do that now. And this allows McPhans of all ages and locations and financial status to participate. And we can be our varied creative selves.

Remember this from her McPhee Outreach blurb:
"We don't have to do huge things to make a difference in people's lives. It can be as simple as getting involved and donating time or financial resources in places like your local hospital, shelter, church, community center etc."

I hope you guys like my idea!

Come on guys! Say something. I know you've looked at this. Maybe it's too long to read? Say that then.

Okay, maybe now that the extreme media blitz is over, you'll have time to read another kind of post?!? If you think this is a bad idea, I'd love to hear why, too ...

86 views? Won't someone please comment? Even if to say it stinks? It's too hard? It's boring?

Thank you so much for replying!!!!!!!!!!!

We can always extend the date and send her a "Happy Summer" gift if people need more time to actually get a volunteer event completed.
