McPoetry Project Proposal

Inspired by the wonderful poetry seen in this forum by Gary(katkrazy) and others, I am acting on a suggestion by willow and new member k8EfromPhilly in proposing a poetry project for Kat. Members would compose and provide original poems inspired by Kat and her music. The poems would then be printed, hand-signed by the contributors, and mounted in a bound book for presentaion to Kat. Possibly we could also make copies available as souvineers for individual McPhans.

Anyone interested?
Please post thoughts and suggestions!

Bill

Dear Bill,

Certainly count me in (and thanks for the very kind words). This could be a great project...but now I have to go back and really improve what I wrote--or write something significantly better!

Oh my goodness!! I'm so excited -- I had to leave for a little while and I had no idea that the "McPoetry Project" was born!! ...Thank you Bill for the "shoutout"...I was going to suggest a new project on another board to show our support for Kat, especially now.  But I was kind of stumped.  The poetry seems perfect and I'm glad that others are interested.  Gary is a wonderful poet...and there are various types of poems so I think others should at least give it a try!

I'm in on this one. While I'm mostly a non-fiction (and fiction) writer--I have dabbled in poetry, though never had any published. But, I have to be really inspired in order to do well at it. A lot of my images I get in my mind that need to be translated into poetry don't always get conveyed in the right way (depending on the idea or subject)--which is probably a struggle for all people who write poetry. It's the ultimate battle of getting subconscious thought into the right words that make sense.

So, I'll try to write something and submit whenever the deadline is. I've already sent a lot of letters to Kat during 'AI' that could be considered somewhat poetic. But I could go a lot deeper in thought with a poem. And it'd be a chance for me to have an inspiring subject for a change, which should make the process easier. Plus, it's probably a good idea to make the poems similar to how Gary structured his. Just one or two stanzas I think would work better. Though poetry structure can be done in your own way--and that has nothing to do with length.

I've sent letters, a gift (of Oregon-shaped chocolates), a rose and a greeting card to Kat when she was in 'AI' sequester. And don't forget posts from the 'AI' board that were printed and sent via Laurie and the other Kat Pack project coordinators. But now I can add a poem to the growing list. It probably should have come first before anything else, even though it's always easier to do what comes easier to you.

Count me in!! Just don't count on me to be, um...done anytime soon. I've been wanting to write a poem inspired by Kat for a while now, but I've been looking for the inspiration. I don't know how to write rythmic poetry, so anything I do write won't be clever or anything, but I hope I find the right emotion to express. There are so many things about Kat I'd like to "get out," but I'm having trouble on how.

"I think it was the summertime when I laid eyes on you. I didn't even know your name...The boy you never wanted just steals your heart..."--Kat McPhee, Love Story

"4 walls and no you. The silence in this room is so loud...wow"--Kat McPhee, I Lost You

"I didn't see the crash that burnt the bridge, didn't see the missile that sank my loveship down..."--Kat McPhee, Dangerous

"Wanting you to be wanting me, no that ain't no way to be...You never were a friend of mine..."--Kat McPhee, Over It

"No more lonely nights to hurt me, no more tears left to spare, no more reasons to be unhappy. You threw them all up in the air..."--Kat McPhee, Each Other

"Your pedicure, white-tipped French. Your legs don't make no sense...Shoes like these make me hate flats..."--Kat McPhee, Open Toes

Ok, I'm happy to see that this is picking up a little more steam!...I'm not a "poet" but I have written several in the past.  It's funny, they seem to "flow" when you're feeling most inspired...I've already started mine and I can't seem to get it on paper fast enough!  I think I'll send it to Kat even if "McPoetry" doesn't catch on -- but I really think it should!!

(I do have a question though: is this idea being passed around to some of the other boards, or is this a KF.com "original?"

This will be a KMF project, but, as always, feel free to post a link to this thread on IDF or other forums. Of course the AI forum doesn't allow links, but you can mention that there is a poetry project at katharine fans dot com there.

Hey, Bill...thanks for the update!...I had another idea -- tell me what you think -- maybe some people are hesitant to participate because they aren't sure they can come up with a poem of their own...if that's the case, what about finding a poem that you feel best expresses your love & support of Katharine.  You could copy the poem (with credit to the author) but give a brief explanation as to why you chose it.  These could be included with the "original" poems written by those who choose to do so...again, just a thought!

Woo hoo! I already wrote mine. I thought it would take forever, but I just...did it. As long as you're writing something personal and honest, the words seem to flow. My poem explores the "journey" of how Katharine has helped me overcome something in my life. I know...corny, but I actually cried while writing it. It's not a lyrical masterpeice by any means, but I do find it to be emotional, and I hope it makes Kat happy.

Dear Hawk,

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see your poem. I think this is a safe place to share. Are you willing?

Congrats, Hawk! I knew it would "flow" if it came from the heart! And I'm glad that Kat helped you overcome whatever is it you were refrring to.  And don't worry about whether or not it's a "lyrical masterpiece" or not -- it doesn't have to be...I'm sure Kat will love it just for what is -- an honest expression of love & support from a "phan"...come on McPhans/Kat Pack -- you should all at least try this!

I don't mind sharing at all. I'm just a bit confused as to where I'm supposed to post it. In here or will there be a more official thread??

Thanks. You are absolutely right. We should ALL do this. What I've found is you never find how you truly feel until you try to put it on paper. It forces you to think, so I"m sure we can all come up with something.

Count me in Bill. I've never written poetry but I think it would be a cool challenge. Anything for Kat. I think she would really be touched by them. I guess it's rhyme time.
