Since her tenure on American Idol came to an end in May, Katharine McPhee has done a remarkable job setting herself apart from past Idol contestants:
- Appearances on the covers of many magazines including OK!, People, Teen People, Shape, and Us Weekly.
- A feature as the Fun, Fearless Female in the December issue of Cosmopolitan
- A feature as one of Us Weekly's "Fresh 15" in it's celebrated annual Hollywood issue. The feature names 15 talents to look out for in the upcoming year....
- Concert performances with the world famous Andrea Bocelli
- An appearance at the JC Penny Jam, which was broadcast nationwide on CBS
- A lucrative contract to act as the very first spokesperson for Sexy Hair (the deal is rumored to be worth 2.5 million dollars)
- Dress designer Dina Bar-El asked Katharine to walk at her fashion show during LA Fashion Week.
- A nomination for "Big It Girl" at the Vh1 Big in '06 Awards. She is also scheduled to appear at the show, which airs on Vh1 on December 3rd.
- A performance at the Christmas tree lighting at the Grove in Los Angeles. CBS will be broadcasting the event nation-wide on December 2nd.
- A standing ovation from her own idol, Whitney Houston, when she performed Houston's "I Have Nothing" at the Carousel of Hope event in Los Angeles. The performance received a great deal of media attention and was broadcast in full by Access Hollywood.
- Album collaborations with some of today's hottest producers including Nate Hills, The Underdogs, Kara DioGuardi, Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, Ryan Leslie, and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds will no doubt help Katharine achieve the success she so deserves.
Having accomplished all these feats before releasing her first album, there is truly no saying what will be in store for Katharine McPhee when her career
really
begins on December 19th.
if there's something important I forgot, please let me know!!

This is an AWESOME list, ECB! You've outdone yourself putting it all together! It's incredible to see how much Kat has accomplished in such a short time. I'll totally use some of this info when I talk up Kat to potential new fans.

Nicely done, Britt! Thanks for putting that all together. She really has accomplished so much in such a short time, and that's nothing compared to what the next year has in store!

And she was able to have these accompliments because she had a lot of courage and self confidence and was very determined. Seeing this list is very amazing because the album isn't even out and usually an artist gets this type of publicity after their CD is released but not our Katharine. She is very special!

Would it be worth adding that Kat was included as one of US Weekly's (?) "Top 15 Fresh Faces to watch" or something like that? I don't remember exactly what it was called.

Did she ever appear in "Shape"? I remember the rumour but not the actual happening. Has this come out yet?

That's a very handy list there to use, Britt--so thanks for writing that up. And it's done in a good order too so you can put the most overwhelming things toward the end. That's probably the biggest challenge to people who want to introduce Kat to people who know little to nothing about her: Trying to describe her in the best possible way...when there's so much to say and not sure which is the best thing to say first.
That list is proof right there that Kat's had the greatest opportunities of any star in pre-superstardom mode than any performer probably in history. In a sense, Kat's already a superstar without it being labeled on her definitively by the media. You can't look at a list like that and not just say to yourself that you're witnessing a superstar already at work.
Well, even if I listed these things to some deadhead employees in some stores I've been in...I'd probably still get a
look on some of those faces. Those kind of people are hopeless to me. Though it all depends on what kind of music THEY'RE interested in. If they don't even like the types of things Kat does--her accomplishments probably wouldn't mean anything to them. It's better to stay away from some employees...and just go after random people in malls and things. The chances are usually good you'll find receptive people in that type of scenario.
The best places to go to broach a convo about Kat with random customers would obviously be in media stores while looking around the music bins. More often than not, you'll have some people around you looking in bins near you. Striking up a convo about Kat is always good--especially when you can't find the CD (or pretend not to
) and say you're trying to find it. That's the perfect time to give out the ol' "Ever heard of Katharine McPhee?" or the better "Have you heard Katharine's performances?" You'll likely get
