Keep this in mind as well when buy the single or album. About preordering and chart sales There is some debate about what counts for first week sales and what doesn't. I know there is some debate about Amazon and B&N but understand, they do not convert pre-orders into sales until the album is actually available on the release date. What do not count are Street Date Violations which is when a retailer makes available an album for sale prior to the official release date (this happens quite often). Use this as a guide about buying a single in order to boost her sales. *Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble both report to Nielsen SoundScan, which is the company that tallies up cd sales and reports them to Billboard. You can buy or preorder from either place. *New releases are released on Tuesday so that is when the counting begins and it continues until Sunday night. The tallying starts Monday morning when the companies begin reporting the sales to SoundScan. You can actually watch the tallies at hitsdailydouble.com/, it is rather fun to watch the numbers come in. It is an excellent idea to but the CD on the release day. SoundScan makes its estimates of sales for the week based on first day sales, and big buzz is generated by big first day sales. *Don't ever buy the single the Monday after it's released, because your sale won't count toward first week figures. *Pre orders count as first weeks sales, don't wait a week or two to buy the single or any cd. Pre ordering and buying it the first week of release is best to create the buzz in the industry. *Please don't buy any of the CD's before the release date with the exception of pre ordering from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. There are stores that will put the CD out early even though they are not supposed to. Resist the temptation to buy, as these early sales from those unscrupulous stores DO NOT count toward first week sales!
Yeah, I found out about all of this when Katharine's single came out. For some reason it became available on I think the 21st or 22nd on ITunes for a couple of hours late at night. Well, I managed to buy it in that time period. Then I was alerted to the fact that it wouldn't count toward Katharine's sales. Well...I bought more than one copy anyway (both the CD & digital) but...I learned these rules at that time. But it's a great thing to remind everyone of. I didn't know about the Monday thing though.
Just everybody go get it the first day. And then get some more after that. Give them away, keep them for whatever reason you like...do whatever. Just buy as many as you can afford to support our girl. That's a little ways away here but...the day will arrive sooner than it seems right now, I'm sure.
