To my katharinefans friends: Know this doesn't have anything to do with Kat other than watching American Idol and specifically Katharine, got me and my daughter through some trying times.
I am so proud and happy to share the news that tomorrow my daughter will celebrate her 1 year anniversary of being Meth Free. She didn't go into rehab, but made the decision that she didn't want to live her life that way and she couldn't take living a secret life and keeping things from me any longer. She basically has been following the AA 12 step program. She is so strong. Last month she even quit smoking altogther. Her goal that starts on her anniversary date, is to loose the pounds that she has put on since quitting meth and cigarettes. Tonight, she attended her first meeting as a new board member of MAMs....Mothers Against Meth.
The reason those kitties are so important to her is because she promised herself that if she stayed drug free for 6 weeks, then she would get a kitty to replace the one she had to put to sleep after having him since she was in 3rd grade!!! Her friends cat had two kittens...both male....almost identical...golden-orange tiger tabbys with long hair. Since she couldn't decide, she took them both home!
As you all mentioned, those electronics can be replaced. And even though I lost photos from the AI Concert, I am thankful for Pumba returning. You all really have been such a great source of encouragement and caring. Again, Katharine is lucky to have so many wonderful, intelligent, caring and compassionate fans. But, then why wouldn't she as that is the person she is also!!!
Congratulations to your daughter. The hardest thing to change is ourselves. (Someone else's mind comes second )
When we look at how far Katharine has come in just a year - from eating disorders and being 30 pounds overweight to the cover of Shape fitness magazine, from $25 a performance acting in a play to million dollar record deals and endoresements, from 198 rejection slips for her acting tryouts to being considered in some of the biggest movies of the year and by some of the biggest directors - we can see how it is possible to achieve almost anything if we just believe in ourselves. And all this without compromising her high standards and the beautiful essence of who she is.
It isn't just very young girls who are being inspired by Katharine!
Didn't realize that the same thing was posted in two different forums... So here is my reply that was from the Off-Topic Forum where your thread was locked:
That is great news, Moms4Kat, you must be very proud. That's a tough addiction to overcome. It's a drug that I believe is a lot more widespread than reported by the media. I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more stories out there to educate the public. I think family and friends would be much quicker to recognize signs of meth or "ice" use if they knew what the signs were.
I'm glad your daughter is doing well, thanks for sharing the good news.
