Sure - imageshack, photobucket, anything - just like to get the full sized. Even just make a special thread here just for that purpose *shrug*

Here's the larger sizes, Jas and Phee. I would have liked to have uploaded them as .png files...but it just made the files too large.

Maybe more to come--though I don't think any blurry shots are worth putting on the media site...

Hey Greg - I was looking forward to reading your review, I knew it would be a good one. I love how Kat is changing it up a bit on SOTR, I recall you saying that's considered "Sinatra Style" when an artist performs it a little bit differently every time, is that correct?

I'm curious as to what you thought of Lisa's performance. She definitely has impressed a lot of people on the tour, I thought she was incredible and has a good strong voice. Also, glad to hear Kat mentioning she had a good day in Portland, they all probably got to relax and unwind a little after their long road trip from San Jose - they definitely need some chill time.

They're all such great performers--but Lisa was definitely impressive accompaning herself on that keyboard. I neglected to mention her in my review, but so many have already said how strong her voice is singing those Elton John tunes. And Elton John is probably happy to get the residual checks in the mail. Elton John's songs were quite prominent in the show (along with Stevie Wonder's). Ironic that we all saw ads for Elton John coming to the RGA this fall up on the new 360 digital ticker inside the arena.

It's too bad they couldn't bring a real piano out there (that would have allowed Kat to perform with one during 'OtR')...because I'm not really a fan of digital keyboards. But it doesn't matter, because you can still show your skills if you know how to play as you sing.

Really, Kat never would have to accompany herself on an instrument, because her overall presence is overwhelming enough. Just imagine if Kat sat down at a piano when singing. It'd bring the power of her stage presence tenfold.

Yeah, Co, Kat altering musical lines like that really started with Sinatra in the pop world. In classical terms, they called that 'Rubato' (or robbing time). It's the same technique when you play Chopin...and actually the major musical secret in how to interpret his pieces in the right way. It's also a musical secret in the pop world that not everybody knows how to do. It's something you have to do by instinct if you want to do it right. Some singers just have to stay right on the beat or they get thrown off. Kat's one of those miracles in taking musical risks effortlessly. It shows she has high artistic ideals intrinsically...maybe passed down in her DNA from growing up in a musical family.

On Kat having a good day: It was over 90 degrees...so it probably felt like home. But I don't know what those rumours were all about saying she didn't feel her best in San Jose. I expected Kat to be very tired by the time she came to Portland though. I think that day off in-between San Jose and Portland probably helped her feel more rested--because she sure was at peak ability last night.

Thanks everybody for the nice comments on the review. If I actually had gone backstage--you would have been reading my review all day today.

Greg, I always enjoy your writiings on KMF. They are detailed but very enjoyable to read including your review of the Portland concert which I just read.

I have just learned a new word, "rubato" from you.  This is exactly the term I needed to describe the style in which Kat sang her songs at the San Jose Concert. And yes,  it's  the Sinatra style a "DNA" gift that Kat has already been using with success at her young age!! Thanks for the very nice pics, artistic in feeling.  I have not thought about using this mode this way as isn't panorama often used in taken outdoor shots of scenery?

Thanks again for sharing.

We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

Thanks for the nice reveiw and wide angled shots Greg. You did much better than I expected with a standard 3X zoom camera, especially in that kind of lighting. Mine all came out dark and blurry (because of Kat's constant movement) that I didn't even bother to post. So we were right last night that the arena did mention about no attached lenses. They're really concerned about this for some reasons.

Thanks, Mike (and Minnie back on page two ). That camera I used has a built-in wide-angle lens that's quite helpful when you want to get a panorama shot. Yes, it's usually used for outdoor photography--but I thought it'd be something creative to get a wider expanse at the concert...similar to letterboxing in films on DVD. If only we could get digital 16x9 video from the concerts--we'd REALLY have some great media.

I still have more photos, but Kat just moves so fast that the slower film just made her a blur. It was a real challenge, despite my fast shooting as if shooting a model's every move. That's why I unfortunately missed her mention of being teary--plus even noticing she was crying last night.

By the way, I turned my flash off. From my vantage point, the lighting was just right to provide enough to show detail.

I think 19 Entertainment doesn't want attached lenses--because it provides too professional of shots that could end up in places without their representation. They want amateur photography only, possibly because they want to control the press in getting just the right professional photos. Of course, the press is already barking about not being able to get cameras in anyway to capture photos of the idols performing. 19 Entertainment is highly controlling--though most concerts I've been to don't allow attached lenses.

Incidentally, I didn't mean to belittle that older guy checking bags for media devices with that little flashlight (in case he's reading ). It just was odd they didn't have some big burly security guy there who emptied your bag upside-down and stared at you menacingly. I guess you only see that in the airports now.

Great review Greg, Thankyou! The shimmy on the Barricade was the homecoming show in L.A. You can see it here at 1:10 just after the extremely close encouter with puyatboys (glowsticks driver) camera:

http://www.gofish.com/userVideoPlayer.gfp?gfid=30-1047602

The sound is horrendous, that is why it didn't make the concert pages.

I hate to be such a nerd, but just happened to have it!

Check out the part when she passes right in front of the camera.
You can actually hear Kat's voice (not her amplified voice coming
from the PA) when she says the word 'do' get picked up by the
camera's microphone. I think that's pretty neat!
