My journey to see Kat at Endfest in Sacramento.
It was one of those days.............. (Well, it started off good) I had e-mailed Cobaby to let her know that I would looooove to meet up with some of the other Kat fans from KMF. I e-mailed her the night before (I know, I know, I procrastinated). Anyway, I had to bee in San Francisco at Noon Saturday morning for a family wedding. I'm thinking, "I got time." Yeah, right, my mistake.
Got to San Francisco just in time to make the wedding, take pictures, give lotsa hugs, kisses, etc. Then, "OK, gotta go!" We (me, hubby & kids) get back into the car and onto I-80 East. Anyone who lives in the area can tell you what the freeway looks like after 2 PM. I know, "Welcome to the parking lot!" Anyway, I felt bad for my husband, he was driving. Anyway, it took us over 2 hours to get home. We live in Dixon, which is about 25 minutes from Raley Field. We had to go home to drop off the kids and pick up the tickets, change clothes (Was not going to show up in my wedding clothes!) I felt old enough going to a concert that headlined Hilary Duff!
Well we get home, change, grab tickets, kiss kids bye, and say "hi" to the dog. (I think in that order?!) I didn't think I had enough time to check my e-mail (Major mistake--cobaby had left me her cell phone number so I could meet up with everyone--I AM STILL SO BUMMED!)
We get there just in time for the 1st act, Click 5?. They were ok for a boy band. The teenage girls seemed to like them. Some girls were even singing to their songs. KAT was next, but it was a loooonngg break between the Boy Band and KAT. I kept looking for people with KAT shirts or signs, but I think all the Diehard Kat Fans were already in the front. We were 1/2 way from the stage on Field level. I had never been to Raley Field, it is a small stadium. Anywhere was a good seat. But I paid for the Field tickets, waited in line for my shiny orange plastic bracelet, so I was staying put! LOL!
I ended up standing next to a girl holding up a KAT sign! Woo hoo! We giggled, pointed at the stage and just acted silly. I didn't get her name though, I was too excited about seeing KAT, and I was alot closer than I was when she came to Arco Arena. If anyone remembers the video we took, I had to zoom, wayyyyy in! I think Phee still has it up on Katsconcerts.com Thanks Phee! Unfortunately, I didn't bring the video camera, I thought security would be tight, but again, another MAJOR mistake, I was close enough to have taken some good vid. Oooh, how that still hurts thinking about that.
Anway, the DJ comes out to give his intro for Kat, you can see her dancers in the background, but I didn't see KAT right away. My husband says, "There she is, can you see her?!" I'm like, "No!" (I have a blonde amazon standing in front of me, being fanned by a guy 1/2 her size) I am seriously vertically challenged so this doesn't help! My hubby says, "She's right there, behind the speakers"! The music to Love Story starts and KAT HAS ARRIVED! WOO HOO! That girl definitely has STAGE PRESENCE! She is so beautiful! Wow! She looked great in her jeans and vest. But it was really hot and muggy! She even commented on how hot it was! I kept looking for the snow cone guy that disappeared suspiciously before Kat's entrance! Hmmmmm....
SJwolves did an awesome recap on the songs, so I'll just add my 2 cents hear and there. Dangerous, was awesome! The crowd seemed to really love it! I know I did! When she hits that note when she sings, "She's a Maneater!!!!!!" My husband leaned over to me and whispered, "Wow"! Wow indeed! I'm still working on turning him into a Kat fan! LOL! SJ already mentioned the new intro to Over it that Kat did. She pointed to the cameraman and said, "There he is, ,he's a cameraman now!" That was so funny! I didn't get to see what he looked like, but I'm sure he puffed his chest out a bit, and said, "Oh, yeah! Kat noticed me! The crowd sang with her, it was great! It was nice to see little girls and a couple senior citizens singing with her! LOL! It was definitely an interesting crowd. Mary Jane was truly mind blowing! I had never heard the original version, but Kat BLEW OUT the speakers! She has such a powerful voice! A lady near us, was like, "Man!" It seemed really loud, but Kat's voice is just so powerful, it eclipsed everything around it. My husband said, "That girl has got a voice." Tell me something I don't know. Open Toes was fun! The part where Kat cracked up laughing was when she looked over at a group of fans that were holding up their shoes and waving it at her to the beat of the song. You couldn't miss them, one of them was a really tall guy in a baseball hat that was holding up his sneaker! When she looked over at them, she started laughing. You can see that part on Dennis's video from IDF. I haven't watched all of his video's yet, but I'm going to after this. I wanna see if my head pops up somewhere! LOL!
We had all seen the fan videos from her previous concerts, but they never capture the true Kat experience. You are mesmerized by her presence, hang on to every word, and wonder why you shiver(even when it's 95 outside) when she hits that POWER note! It was an awesome experience. My next major mistake was not sticking around after Kat's set. Since it seems she hung around a little longer. I might have been able to catch up with cobaby and the others. But it was a long day, and I did not want to hang around tfor the rest of the groups. Nothing against them, just there to see my favorite singer, Katharine McPhee.
p.s. One bummer, when I got in line to see if I could buy and new Kat memorabelia, they only had her CD's. Had a couple behind me that was bummed they didn't have pics or posters of Kat also. We'll have to wait until her next tour. Kat is hear to stay people. You have got to see her if you get the chance. It is worth it.
p.p.s. Cobaby, sorry I missed you and the others. I hope to meet up with you at the next Norcal tour! Thanks!
From the SacBee: • McPhee might've been the runner-up on season 5 of "American Idol," but she was the Queen Bee of EndFest 2007. McPhee held fort in one of Raley Field's suites after her 20-minute set, and whenever she came to the balcony and waved to the crowd - which was a lot - it was camera phone mayhem.
On stage, she sang to canned back-up music. But she did bring two back-up singers, and they all karaoked away to McPhee's debut album. McPhee also took a solo turn, albeit with pre-recorded piano, and wailed on Alanis Morissette's "Mary Jane."
