Gwen Stefani & Maroon 5 may be early Grammy frontrunners

 

Since we're roughly halfway through the eligibility period of the next Grammys (Oct. 1, 2006 to Sept. 31, 2007), it's time to spy the derby track and see who's got an early head start to claim the top four prizes: album, record, song and new artist of the year. I asked our forums moderator David Schnelwar ("Guru") to stick out his tender neck and tell us what he sees.

I would LOVE for her to get a Best New Artist nomination.  I don't think she'll win unless the album suddenly takes off and starts selling 50K a week.  I think, I THINK album sales play a small part in the selection process, so IMO Daughtry at this point is the front-runner to win.  But like I said, a nomination would be great.

Wow...just being mentioned there is a pretty nice thing for Katharine.  Yeah, she needs a breakout hit song and then her chances would improve greatly.  Although I wonder if they'd put two Idols in the same category like that.  Lily Allen & Amy Winehouse are doing pretty well.  Daughtry is a given.  But I wouldn't count Katharine out.  As I said she just needs something to hit big.
