Here's a summary of the pool selections of who was picked to win when we first picked the Top 12 and The Divine Nine.  Melinda was looking like the favorite to win when the Top 12 rounds started, but  Jordin was closing in on her fast and don't count out Blake just yet.  I think we all know Melinda will be in the finale but will it be with Jordin or Blake?

Top 12 -  Winner Selection Summary (25 out of 25)
Melinda – 12
Jordin – 7
Blake – 5
LaKisha – 1

Divine Nine Winner Selection Summary (23 out of 25)
Melinda -   9
Jordin -  9
Blake -  4
LaKisha - 1

Well, one thing is for certain, AI definitely WANTS Jordin to win. I mean she really seems to have gotten that last position a lot this year (in reverse, Phil NEVER sang last and there was no doubt AI didn't want him to win). And it makes sense for them in terms of marketability. On top of that, they include a clip from Barry Gibb saying Jordin would be one of the next great recording artists in the industry. Pretty good pimping from AI for sure. Assuming Lakisha goes tonight, I actually like Jordin, Melinda and Blake all in different respects but NONE with even remotely the passion I had for Kat last year. Jordin, I believe has the most mainstream marketability with her very good vocals, her youth and her vibrant personality and I do think she ends up winning in the end. With a little more maturity in her voice I certainly believe she could have a LONG career in the music industry. She certainly has that emotional "cry" down pat in her voice when she sings. Blake is the most innovative, unique contestant probably ever on AI but his style is not for everyone and to be honest sometimes with what he tries to do he hits a home run and other times like last night its more like a weak pop fly. Obviously, his contemporary vibe spin he puts on songs doesn't work for everything. I'm sure though if he made a CD of all original material it would do extremely well. Melinda, on the other hand, is probably the smoothest, most technically "perfect" vocalist ever on AI. I mean every performance she gives she is usually almost dead on pitch on everything and she has enough belting ability to handle most any song. The problem is, I just don't know if she has enough of the "wow" factor to win this competition. She really doesn't exude much sex appeal and a lot of her performances can tend to come off as somewhat monotonous and boring. Maybe its just me, but I'm not sure her vocal tone would just jump out and grab you if it came at you from the radio. She certainly is super talented though and will do well regardless of the outcome.

I wasn't all that impressed by anyone last night.  At least not by both of their songs.  Here's how I rank them:

ROUND 1

1. Jordin Sparks -- Clearly the best of the first set of songs.  Everyone else had issues, Jordin was virtually flawless.

2. Melinda Doolittle -- It wasn't her best but it was definitely better than LaKisha & Blake.  I didn't feel a whole lot for this performance.  I don't think it was the right song choice.  I think she sang it well but...wrong song.  Simon's comment was borderline mean about the "backup singer" thing.  Uncalled for.

3. LaKisha Jones -- I kinda liked how LaKisha showed a little something with "Stayin' Alive".  I still don't think she's all that convincing doing much beyond what she does best but I did like that she took a little bit of a chance with this.

4. Blake Lewis -- It just wasn't very good.  That's all.  He's trying to be original but sometimes, as the judges said, his originality becomes not so original when you do it every week.  He nailed it with Bon Jovi, he missed the mark with Barry Gibb.

ROUND 2

1. Melinda Doolittle -- The only two finalist worthy performances of the night were this one by Melinda & Jordin's first song.  Melinda is most definitely the best "technical" singer Idol has ever seen.  But the reason she could win this is because she has the ability to turn songs into her own thing (something LaKisha doesn't do that well).

2. Jordin Sparks -- This is a distant second to Melinda though.  I think what we saw last night was the effects of singing two songs for the first time.  I know it doesn't sound like it should be that difficult but we saw it last year, too.  The contestants started to get a little uneven in their performances once the double & then triple rounds hit.  This sort of reminded me of Kat's version of "Can't Help Falling In Love".  This should have worked really well but for whatever reason...it got a little screechy, a little...I just wonder if Jordin was straining her voice to get through this.  That's what it sounded like to me.

3. Blake Lewis -- I prefered this to the first one.  I know the judges were saying "I don't know the song".  So what?  You aren't going to know the songs on Blake's CD when it comes out either.  That doesn't mean it isn't any good.  Now, this wasn't that great but it was better than....

4. LaKisha Jones -- I think LaKisha is having a hard time figuring out what to do at this point.  She set the bar so high with her first performance of the season that it's been hard for her to match that.  Sometimes, Simon will tell her she's screaming.  Other times she isn't showing personality.  It seems like she can't win.  And honestly, I just don't like her.  That's not fair to her, but I...I know lots of people didn't like Katharine last year and it had nothing to do with singing.  So...

So what happens tonight?  I think Idol will be sneaky with their pairs and put Melinda with whoever is going home because she hasn't been placed in a danger spot yet (they already did it to Jordin).  I'm sure Jordin & Melinda are safe.  I think Blake is more popular than LaKisha and that's really all that matters on this show.  Is he a better singer?  No, he isn't.  But this isn't all about singing.

So I'll say they stick Jordin & Blake together in one group; Melinda & LaKisha in the other...it'll be dramatic, Ryan will probably try to make you think Melinda is this year's shocker but then LaKisha will be sent on her way.

Speaking of Clive...anybody read that story about Kelly Clarkson's fight over her album...how Clive apparently hates it and threatened to shelve it.  Nice threat, Clive...like you'd squash one of your top sellers' albums.  Good to see Kelly understood that she's got the power of multi-platinum albums behind her...if only Katharine can get to that point.  Kat won't exactly be in the best spot to do what she wants for album #2 at this point unless say Love Story catches fire.

Kelly's album will likely go 1x platinum and that's it, imo. I think Clive is probably right in his analysis, but Kelly DOES deserve to make an album of her own. It just won't be that good, i'm guessing, from the lead single. Even Madonna has had a flop or two. But, when she's sent to the bottom, she can only go back up. Go Kelly!

Clive can and will shelve an album if he doesn't like it. He doesn't care who recorded it. I think Katharine should try to take his advice for the second album, it may just get the results they both want. Kelly's album will go platinum (actually her single is not that great either) and everybody will be happy. Please don't underestimate the experience and the power of Mr. Clive Davis and he deserves to be respected for his expertise.

We have all been voicing our opinions about season 6 and some of us don't agree because of personal preferences. The only way we would all agree is if Kat was one of the contestants, then this thread would be boring.

I'm back to tell you guys that I'm just fine. No, I cried for Lakisha. And, my Dad got mad. That's true. I love her voice. I just I do. You see, I didn't change my mind about her at all, even though I had some funny feelings that she could actually leave tonight, based on last night's performance. She looked beautiful tonight and she performed "Stayin' Alive" very, very well, the way I wanted her to sing it. That was a treat, indeed.  I tell you, she may not have been as popular as Blake during the competition, but I could sense a certain vibe that immediately, Lakisha would be on many shows, which would only help to reinforce to the public her natural vocal talent. Popularity for Lakisha has officially started even as i write this. Her face is all over my local network.  Good luck to you, Kiki, and much love for your little girl. More power to you and great success in your career! Keep going, girl!

I also must tell you that I go for sheer vocals, and of course, hoping that my choice would win. But if my choice doesn't win, I'm still fine. I'm just happy and grateful that I get to watch and hear good singing voices. That is more than entertainment for me.

Well, I must congratulate Blake for making it to top 3, and I think I ought to attend his homecoming. After all, he only lives within 5 miles from me. How wild is that, Co, Greg, Bill, and Joe? Blake, the "contemporary rebel", has good looks and cool moves, and I guess that is very important in this year's AI. I'm awake now. Blake shook me up. Thanks, Blake.

Congratulations! I have enjoyed my top 4 picks this year. And, if I still got something to say, it's bound to be---- Jordin and Melinda for the finals. I can't be too fanatic at this point. I love them both. But let's say, my heart is with Jordin, but my mind is with Melinda. Ah, I'm ready to get knocked out by anything right now--- lightning rod, electric cord, a double tequila, or an electric ice tea, anything. I'm enjoying great singing voices and great music too. I'm a sucker for great singers, like Katharine McPhee. Thanks, Kat! You got me into this, big time.

Note: Jordin's eyeshadows were purple tonight.

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.

Let's hope it's not held in a gymnasium that throws everybody's echo back to them a year later. Kat's Notre Dame High School gym looked ancient and had the acoustics of an ancient gym too. But I have a feeling Blake's homecoming will be a little larger. Kat's homecoming was still exciting, though, despite smaller crowds. We've never really known what the totals were either, and that footage of people cheering her on at NDHS is still exciting to watch even now.
Well, all I can say now is: WE GOT POINTS! I think about 95% of us picked Lakisha to go home--and we're finally going to get a different result on the score sheet than we did last week. Hopefully I can crawl out of the basement of this pool and at least get back into the middle somewhere. Though seeing Lakisha going tonight was still bittersweet. The reality of their journey hits you when you see the cumulative clips of their experiences. We just don't see enough of the reality of these people and what they go through. At least those clips show some of that. I appreciated seeing the mini profiles on the Final Four tonight for a change. That's something that needs to be done more often so people can connect with the contestants better. Apparently they used to that in past seasons (I didn't remember that they did)--but they certainly didn't last year. Had people known more about Kat...she wouldn't have had all those invented labels stuck on her by those who can't resist. It's easy to paint your own picture of who these contestants are until you see the reality of their real life.

After tonight, I'm just curious now what the voting difference was between Blake and Lakisha. I think it was probably not all that close when you consider Blake's still loyal fanbase. Now it's going to be tougher to pick him to go next week...because I'm not all that sure he will go. But in the logical way we set up these lists--he probably will. It'll be good for his career overall as we've already analyzed half to death.

By the way, I sort of like those Wednesday bits with Ryan interviewing people in the streets of L.A. about the previous night's show. Based on the people he interviews, you can see that it's not watched by just the always coveted 18-34 demographic. Though based on that older guy who didn't know Paula's name--the older crowd may only watch it casually while doing other things.

A surprise seeing Pink perform tonight. I didn't like her new single too much, however, compared to her past catchy hits. And I think she's mastered the Elvis sneer.

Barry Gibb reminded me at times of the Jimmy Fallon impersonation on SNL--though it was great to see the true architect of the Bee Gees performing on national TV again. It's sort of sad not seeing his brothers sing with him...but (despite having aged a lot)--people were witnessing a true musical legend who hopefully will do more in the industry for his post-Bee Gees era.

Incidentally, my local Fox news tonight had local DJ's predicting MELINDA to win this thing. It'll probably be a close and controversial ending--but I still have no doubt Jordin will win.  I said at the beginning of this pool that it may come down to a near-tie between those two in the finale. So it likely won't be a Taylor-Kat (supposedly) wide margin in the finale voting.

Good luck to KiKi--because she's a great person and major talent. I'm sure she'll get a record deal and we'll be hearing about her debut album releasing next December. I hope Clive Davis picks her up, too, because he'd be the perfect producer for her.

I don't think I said that Clive can't do whatever he wants to do.  But it's obvious from how this went down with Kelly that he was just making a threat and wasn't seriously going to make her do everything over again.  I'm sure he figures Kelly will still sell plenty of albums to justify the thing and maybe he's going to let her learn a lesson on her own with this.  I was more complimenting Kelly for sticking up for herself against a legendary figure like Clive than anything else.

And I don't love Kelly's "Never Again" either.  I can understand why he's a little resistant to her going a little further in the rock direction than I'd like her to do.  But I don't think he wants to lose Kelly from the label either...

Alright...we're getting down to the end and it's still totally up in the air how this is going to go.  In this week's scoreboard I included your placement last week & this week just so you can see how much you moved up or down the charts.

We had three people get perfect scores this week!  AI12345, BigShady & Gregoriancant!  It moved the first two up six spots and Greg up five spots.  I think the three of you are still too far behind to make it to the top but...it's better than nothing I suppose.

I think this is probably a five-horse race to the finish.  Making up more than 2 points on the leaders and jumping more than just a few people is likely too difficult to do with only two weeks remaining.  But I guess we'll see.  Here's the scores:

The only question now is...who sticks with their original picks for the elimination picks?  I've got to figure out if I want to push everything in with Melinda going home.  Or do I hedge my bets with Blake?  Can't go Jordin since I have her winning, that wouldn't make any sense.
I hope everyone has had fun with this because it's certainly added a little something for me in a season that doesn't have that many people I really enjoy watching.  In fact, the only three I really, really have enjoyed throughout (most of the time) are the three that remain.  Although I kind of became a Phil fan near the end of his run as strange as that might sound.  And from some of the things posted here, I don't think I'm alone on that one.  That's all for this week's report.
