Katharine's initial sales will not be as high as Taylor or Chris because of her release date. Well, if she is close to those guys...look out, we've got an even bigger hit than we realize on our hands. But it's about sustaining it. Being in the Top 50 album sales for a year...getting that bounce when a new single drops, etc, etc.
And Taylor...right now doesn't look to be sustained the initial pre-Christmas rush at all. I guess we'll have an even better idea when we see this week's numbers. It just amazes me that you'd release an album without a single on the radio first. Kellie, Chris & Katharine had singles out...Kellie even had a music video ready for everyone...I believe Katharine will as well.
I just don't get the promotional philosophy for Taylor. You need to hit people everywhere. Radio is very important. Not everyone watches talk shows in the afternoon or late at night.
Right...that's the key. His sales are really good for most "normal" artists. But for the reigning American Idol...they're disappointing. A 3-song preview of your album on your web site only gets seen by your fans. You need to be on the radio! I'm still confused why they didn't do that. Maybe they aren't sure what kind of radio stations would play Taylor's stuff? I don't know.
Gold, Platinum, and/or Multi Platinum (US Sales Only)
Kat's is just for 2 weeks sales. she'll be on top10 very soon, hey why Tay's has got Platinum? 600k is platinum? i heard it must be a million..
They certify albums based on shipments, not actual sales. And Taylor's shipped more than a million so it's considered platinum for whatever reason. Bo Bice has sold 200,000 more than Taylor and only is considered gold. Something seems to be fishy about that.
OK, so Katharine is over 162,000. I wasn't sure exactly what the number was. And yeah she'll be up to #11 there in the next week or two. And then it'll take a little work to catch up to Kellie Pickler's 400K+.
I suppose the extra 340,000 will end up in the discount bins for $1.99 and on those record club deals where you get your first 10 selections for a penny each, but fiar enough, they wil eventually sell. I suppose that even 20 years from now there will be a Taylor Hicks slot in the music stores with 1 or 2 of these in it.
So...as soon as Katharine sells the initial run of 350,000 they will make an additional run that will put her over 500,000 so she'll get a gold. That is probably a month away. Maybe the second run will be for 250,000, so when K breaks 600,000 they will make another run to make it platinum, figuring even if it flops, they will still get back the cost of each CD plus a small profit eventually. But it won't flop. It will sell out as will the next million and the next.
Really? Kelly? Clarkson or Pickler? I don't even know if Picler's CDs are released here ...
