EDIT: I just read that the theme next week is 90's music.

Actually, it's "Pop Week" not just 90s, go to the first post and click on the link to the article about Gwen guest hosting.  and, guess what Guys??!!

I got tickets for the Results Show next Wednesday!

I'm trying to recruit a friend to drive down with me, as it's about a 6.5 hour drive.  Here's some info. that was in the e-mail I got from On Camera Audiences.  I really hope I can go and be there LIVE for the results, so cross your fingers, one of my friends will go.  Also, the tickets aren't transferable, my name's printed on the voucher, otherwise I'd pass it on to one of my LA area Kat Pack pals.

On Wednesday we are taping the LIVE results show featuring a special performance by Gwen Stefani, Akon, and Pink!!

So it's Gwen this week?  That'll be pretty cool.  Pop music.  Maybe someone will sing a Kat song.    OK, probably not.  I'm missing something.  What's Pink got to do with anything?  I get Gwen & Akon since they sing together on "The Sweet Escape".

Oh, I hope it's "modern pop" music.  Because just "pop music" is pretty broad.  You're going to the results show, Co?  Wow!  Maybe you can take a sign in that says, "KAT SHOULD HAVE WON!  BRINGIN' CHUBBY BACK!  GO CHRIS S!"  Something like that.

How will you know it's Co?  Hmm...yeah, you need a sign!

Since I likely won't be back here until Tuesday night (events permitting)--I'm going to put this here now since I think it's a little more of a clear vision for most of us who'll get eliminated next. Then again, with all the left turns, it could be Gina or even Chris Sligh. CS has to stop the callouts to VFTW.com as he did the week prior. What was up with that? Does he have an elimination wish?

Yes, I figured we'd get that 'Pop' week pretty soon. That's usually easy on most contestants. And it'll be "select" songs as it usually is. It's not the pick of the litter, unfortunately. I'm surprised how many artists AREN'T loaning out their songs to 'AI' yet. Why even bother having a British Invasion week without the Beatles covered? I heard rumors Paul McCartney might grant permission this year, but that obviously didn't happen for whatever reason.

With Gwen Stefani there, I have a feeling we'll be hearing some old No Doubt material from at least a couple of people. I can see Blake doing one of their old songs and giving it new life. Jordin, too, will be right in her comfort zone, because she's ready-made to be the perfect Pop Idol. Even so, the songs of the 90's are sort of sparse in great quality...so finding just the right thing could be more of a challenge than we think for them all.

Standards week will be the truest test of vocal chops. Seeing Tony Bennett giving tips to people like Sanjaya will be interesting...and probably trainwreck television. We already know he can't sing 'Steppin' Out' as we more than noticed several week back. Nevertheless, I think Sanjaya will be gone by the time they all have to sing the standards.

By the way, I know Co will make herself known in the audience if the camera gets on her. Great going on landing tickets, Co...and we'll be looking out for you...

Back to the competition itself.  Jordin has to win.  Either Jordin or Blake.  This is sort of playing out like last year.  Go with me here.  Melinda = Taylor (no offense to Melinda...she's 10 times the singer), Jordin = Katharine, Chris = Blake, Lakisha = Elliott.  Can you see all of that?

----
Stephanie getting the boot shocked me, quite frankly. I knew she wouldn't make the Top Five...but having her go home now is beyond incomprehensible.
Though when she was paired up with Chris R., I knew she'd be the one. Chris R. hit it with the teen girl contingent that pretty much drives the direction of this show now.

I am banking on my top 4.
Melinda, Lakisha, Jordin, Blake.

The rest will go probably not according to how I see it but each one will be under the voters' mood that day, depending on how big their fanbases are.

Hi Greg and Joe,
It's pretty obvious who the best singer is among the better ones, even at this early stage, and I think the AI producers may be hoping that some kind of controversy happens for a twist so the obvious may be replaced, just like last year. After all, this is what the show is about---to keep it going---for the best TV rating. Unfortunately, it is in the guise of a singing competition, yet, it's really a voting/popularity (fanbase) competition, if you ask me. Take for instance Chris Richardson. He has the best sex appeal in that bunch, but my problem is he doesn't have the vocals that need to go along with his hotness to stay on, yet, voters kept him longer than Stephanie Edwards. Whereas, Kat was the hottest last year, and still, she had the best vocals. Chris R. is different, guys. Definitely, he is not the male KAT. BTW, Haley is hot and adorable too, but because she showed improvement, voters gave her another chance to stay longer.  I really think voters drift from one favorite to another, depending on their performances.

I can see where the AI producers are banking on. They know the top 4 are always good singers, anyway. But their life stories have to support their needed win, making a wonderful american success story. The judges picks right now are Melinda and Lakisha for #'s 1 and 2.  Listen to Simon when he told Melinda "You are in a different league, an outstanding singer, and yet you are very humble, and I like your story, Melinda". As we know, Melinda is a backup singer for many years.

Listen to Simon after Lakisha performed "And I am telling You" when he said "I'm tempted to say to the rest to pack up their bags" He meant he found the AI right then and there. And to Simon, Lakisha's story is also a good american story. Lakisha is a single mother and bank teller from Flint, Michigan. From years of singing in church choir, one day she was coaxed to try AI by members. I just thought Lakisha, now 27, could have tried Ai sooner, but it's not late for her.

However, Jordin, at 17, doesn't have much of a life story to tell to give her credit for besides being a prodigious talent. She is a daughter of a former football star and has a brother who adores her.  Blake is very talented, but his talent may only be pleasing half of the fans looking for pure vocals. For history, I have yet to learn about it, though. I'm now geared to these kinds of analyses, you know. I'm still largely a talent buff. So, I go for Melinda and Lakisha, coinciding the judges' picks.

Rewind to last year: To AI Taylor Hicks' story was a better story to tell than Katharine McPhee's story, so he became the winner last year. Taylor didn't grow up with his own mother, had a half brother from his dad, dropped out of college to work, and, at 29, has been singing for years in bars and gigs, yet, his music career wouldn't get off right. He needed AI to ignite it, and it was given to him.

Katharine McPhee's story is great but was different from Taylor's. She is a very talented girl, complete with family's love and support. Her father is a TV producer and her mother is a singer and vocal coach. Like her older sister, she lived around Hollywood, spent summers with grandparents in Seattle, had lessons in dancing and swimming since childhood, went to a private high school and attended a prestigious university to study theater and acting. And although she battled with bulimia for 4 years, she was able to hurdle it with professional help and self determination. I give her credit for that, btw. However, the eating disorder news was disclosed only after the finale. Voters didn't know about this all along, although Kat had told Kellie, Mandisa and Elliott early in the competition.

AI singing competition is based on these things, mind you. The winners don't necessarily have the best talent in the bunch unless very obviously purported like that of Kelly Clarkson, and of course, if the talent has a big fanbase, AI could always use a bigger buying audience. After all, AI is commercial, first and foremost, not an honor society honoring the cream of the crop.

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.

Phil is actually a very strong vocalist, it's the songs he chooses that are uninspired and a bit dorky. He had the second highest number of votes last week, so it's really hard to tell. Voting for Haley's legs is as bad as voting for Sanjaya's hair.

Hey Co... TQ for this fun thread.... I think Sanjaya will go further - big fan base...Gina , Phil - fanbase is smaller - ... Got to note that Sanjaya is unique - He has got the ethnic votes in some quarters, the Teen votes, the high school votes, the Asian (Yes...?) votes etc.. I reckon he will be around for the next three rounds... heehee

Tommy Gunn, Feel free to add your weekly selection on this thread, it's all for fun.  Hopefully, someone will get this week's selection right - last week we all sucked, lol.  Well, we can blame ASHLEY!!!  for Sanjaya still being there - oh, so sad, but so funny too.   I can't believe that girl was flown out to NY to be on the Today Show.

Ashley did the NY morning show circuit. This Sanjaya controversy is becoming tiresome and he has to be eliminated at some time soon. Last week we all picked Sanjaya and some day we will be right. He can't win Season 6, can he?

I think Sanjaya will be given another 2 weeks or so to perform and prove he's got something. Faster tempos are good for him. Haley will probably get the same treatment. I'm just curious about these two. They seem to create the controversy or maintai
