Excellent performances from the 2 Davids,Michael,Kristy and Brooke!
Once again, the tee-shirted Simon doing his hypocritical fashion police comment for Carly.....I hate to agree with Simon, but he is right.Carly's outfits have been quite unflattering and that huge tatoo does nothing to add any class to the overall look!
Once again,Simon falls into his own redundancy with his Whitney Houston comment re:Syesha.HELLO Simon.......Syesha is an amateur singer;not tying to compete with a legend.WHY compare her to Whitney???

i'm not a fan of Kristy Lee Cook, was in the beginning, but not doing it for me lately. last week was a better performance and after that performance i snuck into a thread at AI where they love to chat on Season 7 performances on Tues nights and found this posted from someone i know, she's actually a very sweet poster there and very funny, but i'm going to leave names out, but wanted to share what they had to say after KLC's all america song that night, i thought it was cute, a bit funny and they just were being silly. i hope i don't offend KLC fans, not meaning it too, but needed to share, cause it brought a smile to my face.

Ugh I know! Next week I predict Kristy will take the stage clad only in a red, white and blue bikini, cowboy hat and cowboy boots. A huge American flag will drop from the rafters and provide her background. She then will precede to twirl a baton while whistling the National Anthem and eating Apple Pie to the delight of the American viewing audience.

Theme: COUNTRY - Dolly Parton Songs: Top 9 Performances

Carly Smithson - Here You Come Again

Michael Johns - It's All Wrong, But It's All Right

Kristy Lee Cook - Coat of Many Colors

David Archuleta - Smoky Mountain Memories

David Cook - Little Sparrow

Brooke White - Jolene

Jason Castro - Travelin' Thru

Syesha Mercado - I Will Always Love You

Ramiele Malubay - Do I Ever Cross Your Mind

My 2 cents: Carly Smithson is an exceptional vocalist. I thought she topped tonight's performances. Michael Johns, however, proved that he could be both a rocker and blues star. I was impressed when Dolly Parton said that the song that Carly sang was actually supposed to be sung by someone with Carly's vocals, and that she actually would like to write songs for Michael when he becomes a star.

Carly's outfit, I agree, lacks luster, but vocally, IMO, if there's to be a winner tonight, she's won it. She has a velvetty vocal, almost buttery smooth and still beautiful as she stretches with a tiny country inflection with a very good ending - impressive. I'm so satisfied with Carly's performance. I'm so taken by it that I found myself listening to it over and over again.

But of course there were others who would join her in the closest distance. Michael Johns and David Cook could croon and sing and stretch their ranges as well. David Cook's arrangement of his song was actually convincing. David Archuleta's vocals are amazing; he's back.

The barefooted Kristy also sounded very good to me in her country niche; looked strikingly stunning, indeed, wearing a brown sundress. Randy said that country is her wheelhouse and it's Kristy Lee's week. Paula said that it was her best performance. Simon said that last week was her best performance and this one was pleasant but forgettable. But Kristy didn't leave the stage without a reply. Her "Thank you, Simon, love you." remark was to me a brave and smart way to reply to Simon. Perhaps that remark was for the "pleasant" part (not the other one). As tough a kickboxer-fighter as Kristy is, tonight she chose to be femininely submissive to an almost insulting critique. Kristy knows how to guard herself indeed, as in self-defense. Although Simon didn't respond to it, I think he could have been flattered, humbled or amazed as he probably didn't expect Kristy to say anything or to reply that way That's one great personality there, friends. I'm seeing Kristy's personal mature side. I just love that girl.

Syesha chose a big song but she actually pulled it through but I preferred the first half to the second part. Jason's performance was a little too fast for me to collect some emotions from it although his guitar-playing was better this time. But Brooke's performance was actually good and it connected well with me. Brooke's musicianship continues to amaze me with her guitar-playing. David Cook is the 3rd guy who plays guitar in this group. I think this season is a special group of contestants indeed that they are allowed to sing with their instrument of choice. I wonder if Jason would try his hand on the drums, maybe he will if he doesn't leave yet, but I think it would not strike as emotional, though, that's why he sticks with the guitar. American idol is evolving to be even more musical in a bigger sense - having (for the first time) broadway/musical theater as part of the themes in the next couple of weeks.

Bottom 3 might probably be (if you ask me): Ramiele, Syesha, and Jason, with Ramiele leaving possibly. Her song didn't connect with me very much tonight. As Greg pointed out earlier, Ramiele's personality is the weakest in the group.

Judging:
I disagree with Simon's deduction on the forgettableness of Ramiele's or Kristy's songs. Simon is not making sense saying about how forgettable the performances are, knowing that the songs are based on themes and are covers and not their own. Just imagine if they all have to sing Carly's song, "Here You Come Again". Maybe the judges would be in a standing ovation a few times. Therefore, song choices really play a very important part, and I think the best song choices last night are Carly's, Michael's, Archie's, and even Kristy's. Kristy's voice in this song was not as strong as last week (because perhaps the band was loud here) but over all, I think she did pretty well. Dolly Parton wrote that song and it's the true story of her life. Simon was looking for "youth" with Brooke's performance that she was accused of looking "old" along with the instrumental group that played along her. I truly believe that the judgings have to be balanced and each judge take up a segment to praise or be nasty or too picky about. Simon could be what he is because he is not a singer. No singer could ever judge the way Simon does.

Frankly, I want to see talent and could care less if they have previous experience or even if they had past record deals. - awwhy, mjsbigblog.com

Bian and Jess - Here's a link to a world Time Clock http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/  to help convert the time differences.  So, use this to convert the time on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. EDT to your time equivalent.  I believe you're both 12 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone; therefore, your selections will be due in your respective countries at 7 a.m. on Wednesdays in your country.

Bian - Your default pick was Syesha, anyway, since you had her in the 9th spot.  Unfortunately, Jess, you missed the deadline and your 9th spot selection has already left the competition, so no points for ya this week, sorry.

I was kinda expecting Ramiele to go home this week, and she does. After weeks of solid yet unelectrifying performances, I think the distance she went with AI is quite acceptable, considering. I'm mighty proud of her and so are her hometown fans. Congratulations to the remaining 8!

This competition just got tighter y'all.

04/03/2008 2:20 AM Alert

So this week we see Ramiele Malubay get sent out of the competition.  The interesting part about that is that Ramiele was all over the place on our ballots which made for some pretty wild fluctations in the standings this week.  The other contestant this is true of is David Cook.  I think we all know the people that had him closer to the top are going to score very well on his placement at this point.

Anyway...here's your updated scoreboard thru Top 9 Week...Mattsie returns to the top of the leaderboard with a perfect 9th place selection & elimination pick.  Maddie & I also nailed this one exactly pushing me up five places and Maddie up four spots.  Our leader from last week, Shinamarih, had Ramiele in 5th place on her ballot and thus got shutout this week after two weeks of perfection causing her to fall into a tie for fourth.

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.
