Taylor debuts at #2 this week after selling 298,000 copies of his self-titled album. Young Jeezy sold 352,000 for the top spot.
Fantasia checked in at #19 with her new album. Selling 133,000. Tough week when 133K is only #19. Kellie was #9 at 79K her debut week.
So what's that mean. Daughtry beat Taylor by 6,000 copies. Let the calls of "Now we know we the real American Idol is begin." No, I'm not talking about Katharine. This has nothing to do with her.
They don't have the new singles sales chart up yet. Just the story about last week's sales.
Back to this week's chart, Daughtry stays at #7 with 181,000. I believe that takes Chris over 700,000 now in four weeks. Mighty impressive.
And Carrie Underwood continues to amaze...57 weeks after her release she sells another 199,000 copies to move up to #6.
Just thought you might be interested in hearing that Chris beat Taylor in album sales. And just to have those 304,000 & 298,000 numbers out there. Granted, Katharine won't be in the Christmas/Thanksgiving rush so she likely won't get those numbers. But something around 200,000 would be great for a late January release. It's all about still being relevant 57 weeks later like Carrie though. That's the important thing. That's how you sell 3-4 million records.
I heard the Soul Patrol was a bit bummed, but for the Love of Pete - people need to quit thinking the first week's sales are the "end all/be all" of how a CD is going to do. Those darn Claymates have first-week record sales that can't be touched 600K + . . . and I think some of the other intense fan bases want to break it so badly. Taylor's numbers are still good - if he gets radio play on the A/C stations he may pick up some new fans who will buy his CD. I'm amazed at how well Chris is doing, that's awesome for him - WOW!, I guess peeps were hungry for a rocker-type CD.
If Kat gets some radio play before her CD drops, she will probably have good 1st week sales I'd say in the 250-350K range. Also, it will be a good gauge to see who the diehard Kat Packers/McPhans are and how large her fan base is. Kat will have slow-building sales as more and more people hear her stuff. I definitely think Kat will be getting a lot of Top40/AC radio play she definitely will fit that niche, and it's about time for someone coming out of the AI family to do so. Really, since Kelly C there hasn't been any of the AI alums who have been played on these stations. Carrie has done great, but she's country and the others have been more R&B, so............ it's time for some fresh new music to hit those Top 40 charts, and Kat is waiting in the que!
