Well, here is who Kat will be up against on the charts as Kat and Norah Jones are releasing their albums on the same day. Norah's 1st single off of her new album is a soulful song called "Thinking About You". Here's a streaming audio of it.

I really like the album cover!

Norah Jones - Not Too Late CD (Pre-Order)

Can't wait for Kat's album as well!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a nice single, although not to much in the lyrics department. I believe they will be in direct competition with each other, butI wish Katharine's label would release her single. I think Kat can beat her with something a little more upbeat.

It's not Norah's best...certainly not better than Don't Know How or Sunrise....

"I think it was the summertime when I laid eyes on you. I didn't even know your name...The boy you never wanted just steals your heart..."--Kat McPhee, Love Story

"4 walls and no you. The silence in this room is so loud...wow"--Kat McPhee, I Lost You

"I didn't see the crash that burnt the bridge, didn't see the missile that sank my loveship down..."--Kat McPhee, Dangerous

"Wanting you to be wanting me, no that ain't no way to be...You never were a friend of mine..."--Kat McPhee, Over It

"No more lonely nights to hurt me, no more tears left to spare, no more reasons to be unhappy. You threw them all up in the air..."--Kat McPhee, Each Other

"Your pedicure, white-tipped French. Your legs don't make no sense...Shoes like these make me hate flats..."--Kat McPhee, Open Toes

It's hard to beat Norah. It's ok for Kat to come in 2nd as long as her total sales are respectable..and I hope she remains in the top ten for a long time.

Some good jazz chord changes in 'Thinking About You'--though it's overall much plainer than anything Norah's done before. But it does grow on you...and means that if it charts on the AC charts (inevitably)--it'll be another jazz song in disguise on mainstream radio. That's happening a lot lately--particularly on the AC charts.

I'm sure Kat's pretty much braced herself that she won't beat Norah for the #1 position that week. But, we could be surprised, considering that it's Kat's higher-energy material vs. Norah's patented jazzy/laid back material. It'll all depend on people's moods, even though Norah attracts the older buyers.

If Kat stole the #1 position away from Norah, you'd have instant music history in the making. Though, realistically, Kat will be #2 to Norah if maybe just Top Five that week. I nevertheless still see a healthy debut for Kat...with even chances of charting higher in ensuing weeks. Kat has that sometimes delayed ability to do better after people finally "get it." Her 'OtR' single proves that theory. Plus, some albums have scooted on up to #1 in the second or third week of release, despite being rare.

For Norah, she probably doesn't even care where her album will chart considering she was nearly upset when her first album did so incredibly well that she didn't know how she could continue her career. Because of her stature, though, she's probably guaranteed #1 debuts for the rest of her life--just like Streisand and other musical legends out there who are still alive. Will Kat be in that bunch eventually? Absolutely...though I'm glad Kat keeps in mind that maybe her next album may be more likely to get her there than the first one. Outside of that thought, considering all the buzz lately, it just seems unbelievable to think that Kat won't at least have a Top Five debut on 1/30. It seems the music business places too many high expectations on the sales performances of albums when a Top Five debut should be considered extremely fortunate in a business that's more competitive than the writing business. (My own personal experience not withstanding.)
