Well stated, Yum. If he does take his album up the charts, it won't be for vocal quality. Taylor is a good entertainer and he does have a tour lined up. I wish him all the best. He may have already enjoyed the highest point in his career.


Thanks zzyzx.  Anything is possible, and judging from todays popular music you don't need a superb voice to reach the top of the charts. What you do need generally is a catchy song that the teens and 20 something crowd will grasp onto. I don't see that happening with Taylor's music. He has many fans from Ai, but the challenge will be for him to reach a larger audience that won't buy his cd based on him being this past seasons' winner. Hopefully for his sake he's got better songs lined up than the 3 samples we've heard.

His music is still receiving a positive reaction from the American Idol fans. I played for my brother, though, and he hated it. He felt it was sort of derivative and too similiar to Ray Charles and other artists of the like.

Which makes sense sense he's more of a Hip-Hop/Rap/R&B fan. He thought the song Each Other by Kat had potential in that music world.

We don't have to knock Taylor because Kat is our number one. I'm definitely not a fan, but I see the appeal. He's a brilliant live performer. And while his music is not my type of thing, his fans are gonna love it. It's catchy and just what they expected when they voted so hard for him to win. I'm glad he didn't change.

Taylor will be like Clay I think. He'll have a cult following but he won't be a superstar like Kat.

I'm not sure why I never checked out this folder before.  I'm missing some interesting things.  I do not see the crossover appeal to Taylor's stuff.  That's OK.  He's pretty much doing what I expected but I'm not seeing how this works in today's music scene.  I'm sure his fans will enjoy this but....as we've said before talking about Katharine.  WE are not enough to make Katharine a star.  You have to be able to grab people who didn't watch Idol.  And there's about 200 million of them out there.

What's hot today is Pop/R&B.  Guess who's doing Pop/R&B?  Guess who's very appealing to the masses because of sex appeal, charm and very good singing voice?  Hmm...who could that be?

I'm glad to see some of the initial reaction to Katharine's stuff is fading.  I realize it was a bit of a shock to some who don't listen to Top 40 radio.  Who aren't familiar with the Pussycat Dolls and the like.  I think all that we should have been saying (those of us who are familiar) was this.  Katharine is doing really good stuff for the style of music she's going for.  Compared to others out there today in this style...those samples are better than at least 75 percent of what's on the radio today.  And they aren't full songs or the finished versions.  So...Katharine will be fine.  She just needs promotion and a hot music video.  I'm not worried about either.
