I'm not too clear what the rules are regarding negative comments toward Non-Kat topics, so I hope this is okay....

I chose choice number three because Taylor has actually got a fantastic voice for his genre. I've checked out some of his Pre-Idol tracks and was very impressed with his abilities as an artist.

Regarding his voice on Idol, however...He fell flat too often for me to believe the American public chose him based on his onstage performance only. Remember "Take Me Home..." or "Not Fade Away" I admit to LOVING "In the Ghetto" and "You Are So beautiful" was nice because they were withing his range.

When he did upbeat stuff, his voice didn't "reverberate," which is a pet peeve of mine. Kat is really one of the only people whose voice echoes with little effort, so I find it difficult to appreciate a "staid" vocal. Remember "I've Had the Time of My Life?" Perfect grounds for comparison.

My aunt (who had never seen idol before) came in while I was playing the duet back on my computer and said "Oh no, he shouldn't have one...His voice isn't "there."  Okay, I'm done venting. I've been bursting to tell my true opinion of Taylor's voice forever now, but I'd hate to be called a basher. I hope I'm not breaking any rules or anything.

P.S. I always found it amusing when Taylor/Chris/Elliot fans have the nerve to say Kat has a limited range...hypocrites

"I think it was the summertime when I laid eyes on you. I didn't even know your name...The boy you never wanted just steals your heart..."--Kat McPhee, Love Story

"4 walls and no you. The silence in this room is so loud...wow"--Kat McPhee, I Lost You

"I didn't see the crash that burnt the bridge, didn't see the missile that sank my loveship down..."--Kat McPhee, Dangerous

"Wanting you to be wanting me, no that ain't no way to be...You never were a friend of mine..."--Kat McPhee, Over It

"No more lonely nights to hurt me, no more tears left to spare, no more reasons to be unhappy. You threw them all up in the air..."--Kat McPhee, Each Other

"Your pedicure, white-tipped French. Your legs don't make no sense...Shoes like these make me hate flats..."--Kat McPhee, Open Toes

Their singing doesn't even come close to Katharine's caliber.

Anyway, I've never understood the whole Taylor appeal. I thought all he did was dance...

American Idol USED TO BE a show where the best singer (or one of the best singers) in the competition ended up winning. That wasn't the case this year.

Right on the money.

The thing I don't understand about AI is what's the point of dancing and stage performance? Now AI is over and he is releaseing his albums. Did he dance in the studio while recording? Do all the Soul Patrol see him dancing through their CD playback? If AI is looking for an entertainer to do live shows, I can understand. But the purpose of AI is looking for a singer to record album, right? Did anyone question why Andrea Bocelli doesn't dance on stage? Does he have any stage performance? I don't know how to answer.

Well, that's still subjective. It's all opinion. Not everyone's taste is the same. I know many, many people who love Fantasia's voice, but I know many who hate it.

Taylor did win. You can debate if he should have or not, but more fans got out and voted for him. Bottom line. The fans are the one who will buy the CDs, not those picky about the technicalities of singing.

I like Taylor's voice a lot. He and Katharine and Chris, actually, were my three favorites coming out of the auditions. So I was glad that Taylor and Kat were in the finale. Of course, I would have preferred that Kat won, but that's over now and I'm looking ahead.

My opinion of Taylor is that I'm not sure exactly how much radio time he's ever going to get. We don't know how much Kat will get either, but if Taylor does a non-mainstream album, which he is likely to do and should do given his voice, the top 40 stations aren't going to play him, and thus he may, after his first album, not get a lot of new fans.

That seems to be one of the sad realities of AI. The winner's initial album hits it big because of the fan base, but then it rarely gets any radio time, and thus the person kinds of drops out of the spotlight. The only songs I ever hear on the radio by past Idol people are Kelly and Carrie. Where is everyone else?

That's my worry about Taylor, and my worry about Kat as well. The good thing about Kat, however, is that she's going to try a pop album, at least that's the implication, and thus she may get more radio time than Taylor. It has to be a good album, but I'm sure it will be. She has a lot of good people working with her, and she's going to be incredible in the studio. It all comes down to good choices at this point. Kat's voice is strong enough to break into the mainstream. Taylor's? It is but will it? Without his face-to-face act on stage, will his voice carry him?

I hope it does, actually, because he deserves success. They both do.

I have never bought the "it's all subjective" arguments when it comes to who is the best singer. Outside of one's personal preferences there are objective metrics that can be used to determine who in any group is the most skilled vocalist. I mean it's just doesn't fly to say "Well I think Kevin Covais is a better singer than Andrea Bocelli  that's my opinion so it can be right or wrong" because  it is without a doubt wrong.

I really believe feel despite the size of the SP If Kat had brought her "A game" every single week of the competition there is no way she would have lost.

In theory that sounds perfect, but the truth of the matter is she would have been criticized for being "too perfect."

Plus Taylor had his share of bomb performances (Easy, Not Fade Away, Take Me home...) and definitely didn't "bring it" every week (unless you're talkig about his dancing). Fortunately for him they came early on in the competition.

And your right about the "it's all subjective." Fact: Taylor was vocally the worst of the top six after Bucky, Kevin and Ace went home. He is very limited on what he can do with his voice.
