Player 15: shinamarih Weekly Elimination Selection (Top Three): Syesha Mercado Performance Show Date 5/13/08
Just thought I'd fill out the ballot for you so Co doesn't miss it when she updates the group list!
Thanks a lot Joe!
Joe, I voted for Syesha's elimination, why didn't I get a point last week? You missed!! I could not believe it! Two times in a row, I got it right, Joe, with Jason and Syesha, you got to count that, and I didn't forget to get my vote in every week, but you recorded it as a N/A defaulted=0 points, whoa! I won't win of course in the pool but I have to have that one point, you know. Jeez. LOL. I guess nobody noticed but me. Yes, I voted for Syesha for top 3, and I also voted for her elimination at the same time, really lame, but I knew she was to leave anyway so I felt like rooting for the underdog, like how Groucho did.
-------------------------
When I voted for Brooke to go (twice) she stayed. Then when I voted for someone else to go, she left. Brooke screwed up my points.
I voted for Syesha to go (twice too) but she stayed. Luckily, when I voted for her to go this time, she indeed left. Still, Syesha screwed up my points.
I had put Carly on both ballots (1st on 12, and 3rd on 6) and I never voted for her to go, not once, and she left at 6th place. Carly screwed up my points too.
Lastly, Jason screwed up my points big time because I had him lower on ballot 12 and he finished 4th. Luckily, the last time I voted for him to go, he left indeed, but twice too I voted for him to go and he stayed, like Brooke and Syesha.
BTW, when Kristy Lee left at 7th place, I had her down on 4th, and of course I never would have voted for her to go, either, like Carly. I had put David Cook on 5th on ballot 12 but now he's top 2. That screwed me too.
Therefore, if Archie finishes 2nd, I would have nailed him correctly on both ballots, if not, I would not have been too far away. So, as far as all contestants are concerned, I have only been correct or nearly so correct, both times, with one single contestant, and that is with David Archuleta. If he wins, I would still be happy I had placed him to go to the finals.
Unfortunately, the tweens don't speak exactly the same way as I do or me and the rest of the 40-ish people didn't vote for Carly or Michael or Kristy as much as the tweenies voted for the 3 latino names, but still, that doesn't translate very well who really was the better singer until the final two now. Therefore, I am 11 points below Vadia, and my account for my losses in the scoring is laid out above. Joe didn't record my vote for Syesha last week correctly, though. How could you have missed my vote, Joe?"That was a lame cabaret", in the words of Simon Cowell.
Consistently, I had put Archuleta at #2 position on both ballots because I was convinced at the beginning that Carly would win, then after she got eliminated early, I jumped to David Cook as the better winner between him and Archuleta. After all, Carly is the most electrifying contestant idol has ever had, IMO. I believe she and David Cook have the most ranges. Just listen to "Shout to the Lord" and distinctly, David Cook and Carly were the true standouts. Of course the others did very well too. I also believe that Michael Johns is the best performer but he was cast out too early and that was a shame. I had him on #3 next to Archie on the ballot 12.
The manner of how words were said by the judges to influence voting mattered to a great degree. The show was kept alive by several important factors and one of those is the way the judges kept a record on paper what their critiques are even from the rehearsal alone, all done to condition a state of voting and to effect the desired outcome based on what has been discussed on the show and what the judges had to say.
With all due respect to the millions of young voters, I disagree with how the contestants were unfairly eliminated at some point because of too many unrealistic power voting on both Archie and Jason which had created a big difference between them and the other better singers.
_______________
If I were to reconsider things now, after all of the performances, and based on their talent and song choices/performances, not basing on the public votes, this is how I believe the contestants should have finished (or finish).
1. David Cook
2. David Archuleta
3. Carly Smithson (I believe her "Superstar" song choice did her in, Greg. Carly should have won this year, like Melinda should have been winning last year, if only true talent is the key, not otherwise. Bcollan, I, too, have always voted for girls to win for 7 seasons now,)
4. Michael Johns
5. Syesha Mercado
6. Kristy Lee Cook (I still believe KLC had at least 1 more week on her belt but I hate to say that Carly or Brooke should have been the ones to go that round because they were way down on dialidol below KLC, so, maybe Jason or Syesha should have left instead of KLC.)
7. Brooke White (I had posted before that BW is the epitome of a real idol, being able to play the guitar and the piano, and still could sing very well. If she didn't commit the mistakes of false starts, I believe she could have finished third or second.)
8. Chikezie Eze
9. David Hernandez
10. Ramiele Malubay - (I had max points putting her on #9 finish and she left at #9)
11. Jason Castro (I hunched that JC was a decoy to prepare Archie for the top 2 postion, and so to keep fanning the tween votes in, JC had to be kept)
12. Amanda Overmyer
__________________
Note: There is a grievance. I really think Amanda should not have been in the top 12. I also think Chikezie and David Hernandez should have surpassed Jason. I had enjoyed Jason with only performance, I think the top 12 performance, but he got this momentum going for some reason, maybe because of Paula, but Chikezie and David H have far better sounding cords than Jason, definitely. If not for the stripper issue, I think DH could have lasted longer. America is so unforgiving in that sense, but so forgiving of Archie's forgetting the lyrics, and so forgiving of Brooke's messing her starts TWICE, but so unforgiving of Chikezie's old fashioned-ness and failed to hear the very good sound of that boy's voice!!! America's power tween voters are not fans of beautiful-curvacious-statuesque-mature-smart-country singers either as to put KLC on a different perspective, and they failed to see the whole essence of the person because of "jealousy" for Carrie Underwood, that's pretty evil to me even more when I read bashings about her. The girl has a great sound and america failed to recognize that!!! I, too, am a victim of "song choices" of course because if I didn't have to consider that, this sequence of finishes would have been tweaked a little bit different maybe.
Joe, this was my vote. You didn't count me in!!
That's ONE VERY BIG POINT!!!! LOL. Yayyyyy, I'm 51 too, like your score!
You got it wrong on the tally, and I didn't even know it until now. Please correct, please. Thx.

Joe, I hope you don't overlook my vote again.
I have DC on # 5 on ballot 12, and # 1 on ballot 6.
I have DA on # 2 on ballot 12, and # 2 on ballot 6.
If DC wins, I would get big spot on points for having DA on # 2 on both ballots, and another good point for having DC finish on #1 on ballot 6. That will be the end of it, then. Hopefully, everything goes well with the two Davids on the finale. I wish them luck. I really enjoyed Archie's voice in his ballads, but David Cook's musical and personality appeal stands out much stronger than Archie's, and it even comes across as more current with more commercial value on stage. Vadia, yes, David Cook is so ready to make that butt-kicking album.
Cojo, thanks for this pool. It has kept me tuning in to some reality TV inspite of my busy schedules. I have enjoyed participating in it ,and win or lose, both Davids will be successful, no doubt.
Which David does David Foster think will / should win!
'Idol' Analysis: Duel Of The Davids (May 15, 2008)With Syesha gone, it's down to the dueling Davids. Music guru David Foster gives his take on what he thinks will happen next! http://video.accesshollywood.com/player/?id=251867

David Archuleta should record songs like "Smoky Mountain Memories". If he could get Dolly Parton to write songs for him, it would be swell. Therefore, I think Archie will be better off doing the pop-country-inspirational ballads if he has to establish himself uniquely with strong success. He should not try to compete with the Chris Browns on the market.
Minnie, about David Foster's take of Archie, I think he's right about Archie's talent. Unfortunately, between pop ballad country-inspirational and pop-theaterish-rock, america will decide tomorrow and recall how in the world Taylor Hicks got away with his old-fashioned Springsteen-McDonald-Ray Charles approach, grabbing the title away from a pop ballad-theaterish very talented Katharine McPhee. I know why. Taylor Hicks has been singing for a while and has made a cd already and needed a big push to get his career going for him even at 29, and america awarded it to him.
Now, with David Cook, he needs the same kind of story to make the same appeal to american voters. He is a struggling band member- bartender who has made a cd already but needs a big push to get his career going at age 25. I'm not trying to draw justification of Hicks' win nor compare Cook's talent with Hicks. All I'm saying is that america can be so supportive of someone they see struggling so hard to be successful finally. But will america award it to Cook? Or will america get its thoughts together and rally behind a prodigiously talented boy, instead, whose career in musical competitions started when he was only 12, who had some vocal paralysis along the way but managed to audition for idol at 17. The only blunder that Archie will ever make and what america will have to take is his innocent-stunned-smiling-look all the time when confronted with interviewers and the media. He may still forget the lyrics once in a while but he will outgrow that. All because he's very young.
I have the final analysis on the prodigious David Archuleta. I have the feeling that america wants to get back to that era when the prodigious Donny Osmond (or the prodigious Michael Jackson) ruled their days and times. Those were the tweeny years, I remember. Yes, I could agree with those who think Archie will win the title. I have nothing against it, at all. I just thought that even if he finishes 2nd, he could still be the Osmond of our time. Archie should win but Cook deserves to win, though. A coin toss might help perhaps.
BTW, Jeff Archuleta should chill out acting like an overly -strict stage dad managing his son. He can't be meddling wih 19 management/Simon Fuller if Archie wins, I believe, or is there a stipulation on the contract if the winner is a minor, that the guardian may meddle? IDK. Greg, do you know? But if Jeff wants to manage Archie by himself, Archie must finish 2nd. Mr Cookie should win, then. No stage dad there.
Player 1: barlo Who will win American Idol Season 7: David Cook Performance Show Date 5/20/08 Yea, yea. I know I had Archuleta to win on both my Top 12 and my Top 6, but I think Cook is better all around. I was just shopping at the AI branch of ITunes and I think Cook should take the prize. But watch out for Archuleta to burn up the charts (in the Groban - Buble genre) after he's had a few more years of experience - maybe even POP! And next year, for the record, I'm going to list my PERSONAL top 12 as well just to have a record to show that I liked Syesha all along.

"But idol is not about talent per se which is why I could never win in any pool ever." mattsie, I think you've probably won more money off AI7 than the rest of us, based on your hotel betting tale, so that's something. * Who needs to win: maybe David Archuleta more than David Cook, but probably neither need to win * Who the producers want to win: Cook * Who I think deserves to win: Cook * Who I think will win: David Player 22: trsf Who will win American Idol Season 7: David Cook Performance Show Date 5/20/08 One other thing - I'm glad I don't get attached to too many of these contestants after they "graduate." I still think that Fantasia was the best contestant ever on the show, but her performance on the last results show was a mess .
Thanks for the congratulations, bian. This year, it was pure, blind luck.
Unlike last year when it was total skill!
