This wasn't even one of Kat's best vocal performances of the season and it still worked amazingly well. For all the criticism I've heard about Katharine's lack of "emoting" on Idol (that I never understood) go watch this again...then find Kady's and it's pretty obvious the difference.
I believe Kat was criticized for not emoting vocally. She has a tendency to sing a bit too mechanically perfect at times, probably from all her years of practice and training. No one ever said that Kat didn't emote in her performance, though some complained that she smiled through sad songs. Kady, on the other hand, did a good job of imitating Simon's pencil, as he so meanly pointed out to her. I've noticed that Mr Cowell is not quite popular around here, but I have to say that, his nastyness and arrogance aside, his evaluations have been more spot-on than ever this year. He may not know his music, but he knows what it takes to sell music.
Kady Malloy is a very talented singer. I've heard her songs on her myspace and I'm very impressed. I could agree that she's not much of a performer but an excellent vocalist. Barbra Streisand had stage fright to fight all throughout her singing career, but she's one of the best living singers in the world.
Kady will grow and mature. Los Angeles may have been too frightful and too strange for her. I believe she has a bright future ahead of her.
I am just watching the entire video of Kady's elimination and I couldn't help but feel awful. That week was heart-wrenching for me, so I went on a little trip. As a recording artist whose stake is on the cd purchases, what kind of personality are we talking about if there wouldn't be great vocals to go with, and what kind of personality or performance are we looking for if forgetting the lyrics and messing up the song would not count as a major con? Kady Malloy has one of the best vocals this year and she's very talented. So, she goes home to learn to pack herself up with personality? but her vocals are great? She was cast off for lacking personality, but she auditioned as the "best" this year. That's the irony.
Suggestion: There should be a vote for the recorded sound (in mp3), not just the performance of the song and the personality factor, that must count in the totality of points, let's say 33 percent each. Voting must be based on the hierarchy of the contestants according to the 3 categories just mentioned. In this way, over voting would be minimized. Each contestant will have a vote for all 3 categories week after week, otherwise, the vote should be invalid.
Last week's elimination was just as tough because Kristy Lee might go home so I stayed out of town again. But Katharine was on the results show so, I had to watch it anyway. I just couldn't take 2 eliminations 2 weeks in a row, please, not my KLC yet. I still want to see and hear more of and from her. KLC is not a bad singer, she's a great country singer! Actually, Randy and Paula made comments that "Faithfully" by Journey could be a country hit for KLC.
During this trip, there were 12 of us in this hotel bar and we had the bartender switched the tv to FOX. Then even before Ryan started calling out names, we started betting 20 bucks each. 2 betted on Kristy Lee to go for the wrong song, 5 betted on David Archuleta to go home for forgetting his lyrics, and 4 betted on Amanda Overmyer for her gravely vocals, and for some reason, I betted that Kristy Lee would stay, and they accepted my bet. The agreement was-- If no one betted on the one who was leaving, they could get to keep their money, but the person who betted against any of the bettors would get to keep the money because the contestant he/she betted would have stayed.
When Archuleta's and Overmyer's names didn't get called for the bottom 3, the 5+4 that betted on him/her to go got mad and lost their ($180) money. When Kristy Lee's name got called, the 2 who betted on her to go were happy and thought they would get the money. But because Kristy didn't go home, I got to keep all the bets, yes, I won.
The 5 who betted on David Archuleta (to go home) thought AI was so rigged for the overly pimped "kid" that Tamyra Gray's boot for messing up her lyrics in season 1 should be recalled. They didn't even think that previous merits should have mattered. Every one is to be judged and voted for their weekly song performances, in which case, David Archuleta should have gone home last week.
Unfortunately, I don't have their names. Anyway, I've been out of town every Tuesday now, observing a form of vigil for Kristy, and so far, it's been working for me. It's really great that she sang GBTUSA. Thanks, trsf, for your input on this one. I had sent an email to Kristy's cousin hoping that KLC gets my best regards through her. A true fan here, you know. As far as Kady Malloy is concerned, she is now operating her own myspace herself and I had sent her also a message about the fans on this site that rooted for her. Hope she sends me a reply. Kady has her songs out on amie st. I'm happy for her.
