Dinah Brein, a songwriter-producer, revealed that she had recorded Melinda Doolittle a song called "Unmade Love" back in Nashville. This was before Melinda tried american idol. Check this out, if you haven't yet. A good song with a great, glorious sound--Melinda is amazing. I wonder if she will include this song in her first album. I think she should. If you'd like to have the music file, you can download it from Dinah's myspace page. That's what I did. Dinah, you did a wonderful job! Thanks a lot for this song.

Melinda Doolittle - "Unmade Love"

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.

Quite interesting, Mattsie. Thanks for posting that and a glimpse into Melinda's recording past. Her quality of voice was obviously amazing then (it was probably only a year ago)--as it is now. I don't know if that song would chart or not if she put it on an album for single potential. It'd definitely fall under the AC category if they made it as a potential to catch on with the mainstream.

It'll be interesting to see if Melinda ultimately goes for all-new original material on her album or some covers. Really, it looks like she'll do the type of album some wanted Kat to do immediately: A jazz/soul type of sound. It appears Melinda's not afraid to just go for that and not worry about shaping herself into something she isn't...

One thing: This song would be too long for AC radio and have to be cut down considerably. But good luck to Dinah Brein and maybe getting her song on Melinda's album as perhaps a quality song that doesn't have to be patterned for radio--but still memorable from the album itself. Thankfully, there's plenty of room for any kind of song today if you find the right market for it.

Melinda hasn't been offered a recording contract as yet, or am I missing something? It sounds like some fans connected with the recording industry are laying down some tracks to preview her capabilities for the benefit of record labels. Greg is right, she will tackle the jazz/blues/soul genre and has as much as said so in some interviews. Imo it won't be very long before she is signed, probably not by RCA.

I like it, I hope she makes an album with songs in the same vein as this one...

ALL YOU HATERS AND BASHERS, TAKE HEED!!!

If Melinda makes that jazz album that zzxzy mentioned she said in the Larry King show she would do, then it would be really swell. Unmade Love may not really chart so well on the AC charts if they decide to put that out as a single, but we may never know for sure. However, it really sounds good. It's very different from how she sounded on idol, though. That's one part we didn't see of Melinda---the subdued kind of singing. But I'm glad a lot of fans are really liking the song. Melinda's voice is really great. It's been settled a long time ago with this song even before idol. I think doing some covers would be a cool idea for her to add to her album, when she finally records it..

This song is really pretty. For some reason lil parts of it remind me of Selena...idk why. Maybe I'm just in that state of mind. But whatever, this is a really great song. I hope her album is like this, and if she hasn't been signed yet, I can't believe it! I thought she would have a contract before now, well, I hope she gets one soon.

Kat's Comment to me:

"Lauren,
don't worry about your gift and not getting on time. That is sooo sweet but you didn't have to do that. I really appreciate it. I read your comment and it really touched me. I'm happy you enjoyed your first season of Idol. I mostly thank you for all your support. It means more than anything. I just love that people are enjoying the music. Keep in touch and thanks again. Cute page too!
