It's a toss-up for me.  Of course i don't base my vote on who has the best voice; but rather, who had the most edge, made my viewing experience the most enjoyable, the one who gave me goosebumps.  And it's a toss-up, for me, between Blake Lewis and Bo Bice.  Of course I like Blake the best simply cuz i think him and I have a lot in common, musically that is.  But Bo was much more consistant and delivered a powerful performance each and every week.  But i choose Blake based on innovation and originality.

how about you?

I don't know, it's almost impossible to choose out of maybe a four-way tie for me between Jordin, Melinda, Kelly and Carrie. None of the guys from 'AI' have ever made me become huge fans. Sure, Clay may have had one or two hits that were worth listening to on the radio for a few minutes several years ago. Bo Bice was a great live performer for a while. Ruben's material just never worked for me. I suppose Chris and Blake are the closest in appeal if you had to pick a male--but Blake would obviously be the most original of the bunch. While not consistent (well, none of them were during 'AI')--Blake's choices of songs have more style than the Rock sound of Chris.

So, really, I'm not sure I'll vote at all because of those four girls being so consistently good in my mind. Outside of Kat, they've all had performances that really moved me in one way or the other. If truly forced to whittle it all down (and I never vote under duress )--I guess it'd have to be (surprising for me): Carrie Underwood.

I never really gravitated to Carrie's talent until late this last year. After hearing her sing in a few appearances on TV, I was just wowed by the quality of her voice. Maybe she's improved somewhat since she won...or I was just asleep all this time to the quality of her vocal timbre. And I'm not that big of a country fan either. Now I think she's one of the best voices around in not only the Country music field--but just about any genre.

Wow, when you analyze yourself a little more--you actually CAN make a decision when voting.

My vote is for Chris... But I love Jordin too...
But my vote goes to Chris because he really has a really great and powerful voice and I really like the way he sings.. Also, he's a great songwriter too!

Spree, Great idea what you came up with. This would be fun, I suppose. Outside of Katharine McPhee, it would be a toss up for me perhaps, but then if I would have to choose only one, I choose Kelly Clarkson. I'm an old soul at heart. I look for the rawest natural talent with the purest tone possible, power and proper techniques. Music must move me. It should give me goosebumps and I would want to hear the voice singing over and over again.

Melinda Doolittle
, however, would be the idol's vocal idol.

KELLY CLARKSON - "Stuff Like That There (2002)

MELINDA DOOLITTLE - "I've Got Rhythm" (2007)

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.

For me, it would be Kelly Clarkson in terms of the best All-round perfornmer, vocal talent and stage presence. Best vocalist I would have to give Melinda Doolittle my vote. For original arrangement and unique sound, definitely Blake Lewis. For me the vote would be split for the reasons I stated. Katharine is the only "whole package" to emerge from Idol IMO.

after Kat (and not on your poll) - #2 for me is LaToya London.  #3 is Clay Aiken, #4 is Kelly Clarkson, #5 is Carrie Underwood, #6 is Tamyra Gray, #7 is Fantasia, #8 is Jennifer Hudson, #9 is Jordin Sparks and #10 is Bo Bice......these are my ratings based on the WHOLE package: Voice (first), song choices, stage presence and presentation.......

That's though... I voted Carrie although Chris and Jordin are darn close... Carrie has been around longer, and has proven herself as arguably the best Idol alum to date!

ew, LaToya, lol.  I already had 11 choices and felt that was enough.  This isn't a poll analyzing voices, that's not my intention (and i knew it would end up being so, sadly).  Its simply a poll to choose ONE contestant who wowed you the MOST.   Who gave you goosebumps the most?  Stuff like that.  It's not about who has the better voice, cuz that would take all year, lol.  Shouldn't be that hard.  That's why i chose Blake.  He made me think about the show when the show was not on.  He made me WANT to watch.

I adore both (aside from Katharine, of course) Kelly Clarkson and Kimberly Locke, but I think that Kelly has a slight edge in every catagory, so I voted for her. I've been giving Kim's new CD quite a few spins as of late.....(based on a true story).... I really like that CD.

I voted for Jordin because of the flashes of brilliance she has shown. She's a bit rough now, but I feel she has the potential to outshine all the other women listed. I say women because I have trouble directly comparing male and female vocalists, partly because I am extremely partial to the female voice.

Okay, if I can't talk about Melinda's voice, how about this. For someone who insisted she couldn't do rock, and she didn't feel sexy, somehow she managed to drop the insecurities at the edge of the stage, walk out there, and transform herself into Tina Turner or whoever she had to be that night. Oh, not an exact copy. She just kind of dropped a cloak of the original performer over her essential Melinda-ness and then went for it, and it usually worked for her. Then as soon as the song was over, she turned back into Melinda, just like stepping out of the phone booth and putting the hornrim glasses back on. She had to stretch to get out of backup singer mode and make herself into a star for two minutes every week, but she did it. OH, AND SHE COULD SING THE HELL OUT OF STUFF TOO. Sorry, couldn't resist that.

Judging from the results, the Carrie lovefest continues on this web site. I thought she was overrated on AI. Her vocals were always solid on the show, but to me they weren't spectacular, and I found her uncharismatic. That one observation from Simon about "a lamb trying to be a tiger" after one of Carrie's performances still cracks me up. Maybe she's shown more personality after winning season 4, but I haven't really kept track.

I picked Fantasia and Melinda. Fantasia just sings with so much heart, and performed with so much charisma on the show. Plenty's been said about Melinda's technical skill and consistency, but her performing charisma is overlooked. (She'll have a hard time with the between-song banter, though.)

I limited my picks to season 3 and later, since I mostly missed AI 1 & 2. I've been impressed with Kelly's AI performances, seeing them retroactively through YouTube, but I don't like her singles. Actually, nobody's post-AI albums have won me over.

Carrie Underwood. She's my favorite idol/singer ever.

Here's a few of my favorites from each season:
AI1: Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Tamyra Gray and Christina Christian.
AI2: Carmen Rasmusen, she was the only one I was crazy about.
AI3: Diana DeGarmo and Jasmine Trias.
AI4: Carrie Underwood, Vonzell Solomon and Jessica Sierra.
AI5: Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler and Lisa Tucker.
AI6: Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis and Antonella Barba.
