Yes, cheers to all of you.
Many thanks to Bill for your great efforts and to Katharine for this super Q & A session which again illuminates beautifully this bright and shining star we all love. She really gets it! Katharine understands that " they(RCA) make choices based on what they feel are going to be hits. Believe it or not there are a lot of people behind the scenes that decide. They do not have easy jobs." And what is she going to do post Clive and company? "I was very blessed that I had an opportunity through a TV show(AI) to get a "break". The rest is really hard work and keeping up with my voice and acting and making sure that I can totally trust the people around me. ...It’s a very interesting world, entertainment business, so stay true to yourself and work hard on your gifts." Katharine really gets it!
Thanks for those responsible. Good questions and even better answers by Kat. Her first answer was incredibly touching. What a sweetheart she is.
The "GBtC" answer just goes to prove that urban myths can start up in a flash about anybody. Even if there was a monumental personal story behind the song for Kat--I'd expect her to keep it to herself if she wanted to. Even so, her answer there makes her life and approach to creativity even more interesting. To be able to bring such high art to something you essentially chose at the 11th hour is just incredible. A true testament to Kat's artistic abilities and what she could achieve.
Yes--thanks to you, Bill, for posting all these answers! And thanks in spades to Kat for taking the time to do this for the fan community again. It seems she truly enjoys being interviewed when she gets truly intellectually curious questions. We all know there's a dearth of that activity in the press world--so she probably relishes doing these from us when she can. Anybody who gets frustrated with the inanity of most questions fielded from the press would probably have a desire to seek out a chance to share more thoughtful aspects about themselves with those who truly care.
That first answer Kat gave may be one of the greatest answers I've ever seen to a Q&A with a celebrity. Kat touches on a lot of profound truths there about how people we never meet ultimately end up becoming the biggest inspirations in why we do what we do in our particular career choices. I could probably list a dozen similar examples in my writing world--whether it be authors long-since dead or just some other person who only knows you tangentially.
Interesting, too, how she really gives an interesting dissection of the entertainment business. The only thing that concerns me there is her having a concern of being able to trust people in her inner circle. It's only understandable when so many superstars have been taken to the cleaners by high-end and supposedly trustworthy management. I just hope Kat always knows what's in the financial books every month, which is the secret to making sure all the business is going right.
Thanks again, Kat, for giving these questions serious thought as you did during the last one in 2006. Perhaps I'll get a question in the next time we do this via popular vote--even though I'm usually the third-party outsider candidate on the ballot.
Thanks so much Bill for posting the answers and thanks/congrats to everyone that participated. Kat answered your questions with a lot of thought and heart.
That first question was a heartbreaker for sure...and I just wanted to say that I hope Kat realizes how much of a welcomed distraction she offered this girl and that sometimes our talents, or smile, or just our own way of being can take a person away from things that are just too imposible to handle. We may not realize it or understand it at the time, but it's the greatest gift that we can offer one another in this kind of situation. After reading this, and things from other fans, plus my own experience....I hope Katharine knows just how special she is, and how far her gift can travel into a person's heart. Sorry for the deep mushy post...but I thought it was important to say.
I'm so very sorry for this girl and her family, they have my prayers and deepest empathy.
LOL haha I knew you would be as soon as I read the first sentence! Awwwww
OMG! That first one is so sad. A huge fan so excited to stay another day at the hospital to meet Kat and her dream doesn't come true. That's defintely something Kat has to live with and take with her, her whole life. I can imagine how hard it must be for Kat to meet other fans, while thinking about that particular 19 yr. old and yet remains to be so sweet and giddy when she does meet tons of fans, God bless her for having a strong heart. This question and the answer really makes you think about those around you and close to you. It makes you think about the people who touch our lives and inspire us.
(Kat if your reading this, I'm sorry to bring up the topic)
But on to more happy things, I loved her answers to the other questions. Her advice to pusure your dreams is so insightful and so true. I agree 100%, if you know what your good at and have people supporting you, you can achieve your dreams.
(Althogh for me it's not so easy because many people don't think I have the knowledge for my dream career).
That stinks that we won't ever be able to hear the tracks that didn't make the album, but at least we heard it from Kat instead of always wondering.
Okay now I just want to say, Thank you Bill for making this possible. You have proven again that this is the best Kat site for all the Kat news, media and updates. You never dissapoint us and I am proud to be a member of this community.
And of course, Thank you Katharine for taking time to answer these questions, I feel like I know so much about you now because you provide us with so much (details that we would never hear any other way). Your such a sweetheart!
Thank you for doing this for us again, Kat
Thanks also to Bill, everyone who submitted questions, and everyone who voted.
I know Kat has mentioned "Father of the Bride" before, but I don't remember her ever mentioning that "The Notebook" was one of her favorite movies. I must have missed that interview Or Kat is just craaaaaaaaaaazy and thinks she's mentioned it before
Bella, Kat asked you how you are, as if she was having a conversation with you. Silly, silly Kat. But then, I bet you answered right back at the monitor when you read that "OMG, I'm fine, Kat!!!!!!!"
What a very lovely and heart-felt response to the first question. I'm glad Katharine realizes what's most important in life, - people, people who need people . . . are the luckiest people in the world.
Congrats to all those who's questions were selected and answered. Bella, she just loves you and Muttie boy - you just continue to be the favorite son, your "Kat in Glasses" love has really impacted the Kat girl.
Patti, I really, truely, hate to censor people for their opinions. I do want to foster an environemt conducive to constructive debate. But that post was just way too over the top cynical. I know you can express many of the same sentiments in a more constructive manor, and if you do I'll alow them to stay.
(Pardon my late response. I've been too busy for anything but the briefest of comments...) The first answer was touching, but do you think Kat dodged a couple of questions? I thought she would have more to say about Bella's cerebral question. I don't know, maybe she doesn't like to get so deep with her thoughts, or prefers to keep them close to the vest. I wonder the same about the "God Bless the Child" question, although when an artist does have some big, showy anecdote about a song's origins, I tend to doubt its authenticity. (Actually, while listening to the Count Basie Orchestra ring in the new year on National Public Radio, I was secretly hoping that Kat would show up as a guest singer. YouTube has a clip of Billie Holliday singing GBtC with that band in the 1930s, so I thought it would be cool to see a possible future legend reprise a song that 2 legends performed 70 years ago, especially since the Basie band's New Year's gig was in San Francisco, where Kat auditioned with GBtC. The guest singer turned out to be Ledisi, who was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy that Amy Winehouse won.) It's interesting that one of her movie faves is "Father of the Bride", the film that brought renewed popularity to the standard "The Way You Look Tonight"; we all remember her singing that on Idol, along with "Someone to Watch over Me", which was repopularized by "Mr. Holland's Opus", another of Kat's favorite movies!
