^There's a picture of a great singer who knows how to tackle the NA without taking half an hour on 'Oh Say Can You See' by turning it into one giant melisma. Kat's rendition of this was pure, understated--and without vocal histrionics that have (arguably) marred readings of the National Anthem at more than one major event by various artists. Now Kat's set a new bar by singing it straight and just focusing on the beauty of voice and phrasing. Her version will hopefully be emulated now. And singing it a cappella brings out the true emotion and meaning without being lost in bombastic accompaniment. It gives me chills when I realize the shootings at Virginia Tech were happening right at the moment Kat was singing this Monday morning. Well, seeing Kat sing it makes all the difference. We didn't really see her full outfit--and it was a perfect conservative, plain dress to wear for this occasion. As always, she just glows the minute she hits the stage. I just wonder now how many hits the video on Youtube's received at this point? It's too good to miss...and it should have been considered more of a major event rather than just an early morning routine to get the NAB convention underway.
