KAT AND DOG ''After [Idol, your music] needs to take you to people who don't necessarily care about the show.''

All About

Katharine McPhee

LIFE AFTER IDOL
I like my first single, ''Over It,'' because it's clever. So many people say, ''Oh, I'm so over it, I'm so over him...'' It's a perfect little breakup song for women who are like, ''Ugh! [Singing] I'm over your lies.'' A year from now, I'll be over the song. [Laughs]

SORRY, CELINE
I've always been into pop, but it's changed. Ten years ago, Celine Dion was the pop sound; now it's more urban, so she's not really what you hear. I'm still a fan of hers, it's just not the kind of music I want to sing.

ON FICKLE FANS
The thing about Idol is, only so many fans who followed you on it are going to want your record. After that, [your music] needs to take you to people who don't necessarily care about the show. I never bought Ruben Studdard's records, even though I voted for him millions of times.

WE KNOW WHAT SHE DID LAST SUMMER
Andrea Bocelli and I hit it off that one time on Idol, and he asked if I'd go on tour for a few dates. It was so laid-back compared to the Idols tour. It was an honor to come off a reality show and work with one of the best singers in the world. Plus, we had, like, really good food.

JUSTIFYING JUSTIN
Once you've been on Idol, you have to transform yourself into a legitimate artist, and that's what Justin Timberlake has done. No one remembers that he's this guy who came off a silly show called The Mickey Mouse Club and then he was in a cheesy boy band, but, actually, he's really talented. And he's so cute.

...AND HER LITTLE DOG, TOO!
Her name is Nina, she's 7 months, and she's a Chihuahua. She's like a baby, not shaky and mean like some people's.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.Others stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same. That my friends is Katharine McPhee

Thanks Amanda.  Shame on Kat for voting for Ruben and not buying his CDs.  Some funny comments too, she continues to crack me up, this especially made me laugh,  "Nina's not shaky and mean like some Chihuahuas."

Wow, Kat's sworn off "Over the Rainbow", and now she's setting an expiration date for "Over It", which she hasn't even performed in public yet? Well, I was bothered more by the former than the latter, but the positive would be Kat recording new songs more frequently?

I've been trying to think of other famous decisions by artists to stop performing a signature song. Although I'm sure there have been many cases of this, the only one I remember is Prince swearing off "1999" after his Y2K Eve concert, and even then he had performed it for a decade and a half.

Katharine will perform SOTR at her concerts as an encore. That's when she is given a standing ovation and thunderous applause to bring her back onto the stage. Yup. She will then sing SOTR! Drama

Thanx Amanda, good article and picture of adorable Kat and Nena!
We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

"Her name is Nina, she's 7 months, and she's a Chihuahua. She's like a baby, not shaky and mean like some people's."

I gotta say, I've never been a fan of toy breeds. I'm far more a "Lily" type of guy.  Sure, some toys are cute (poms, papillons...), but they tend  to be snappy, yappy, "one-person" dogs.

But going by the pics and clips I've seen, Nena appears to be somewhat of an oddity. I swear, she seems borderline narcoleptic at times... VERY laid-back, as far as chihuahuas go.

Woo another funny Kat quotes.. Love that pic so much!
Kat McPhee once said
"This is just like moments in time. It's not your life. I come home to a place with my dog and it's very normal. I Give back all my big jewels"
"But the People really know me, know How Silly i am"

Thanks Amanda, great interview.

I'm a little surprised Kat voted for Ruben and not Clay. But if she didn't buy his album, she really wasn't a fan of Ruben's, but rather a fan of American Idol. I suppose there are quite a few people like that. Many regulars all but disappeared from KMF after the season ended, and a good chunk of those probably won't buy the album. The core people we have here now are the true Kat McPhee fans.

The Nena comments are cute too, but they spelled her name wrong! What is it with these reporters and McPhee names?

I don't blame Kat for not buying Ruben's records. During American Idol Season 2, I voted for Clay millions of times but I never bought his CDs. Katharine however, now that's a CD that I will buy. I guess the reason why I will buy Katharine's CDs and not Clay's is because I am a True Katharine Fan. I was a fan of Clay but I wasn't a fan enough to be considered a true fan.

I liked her quote:'' It's a perfect little breakup song for women who are like, ''Ugh! [Singing] I'm over your lies.'' A year from now, I'll be over the song. [Laughs] I imagine she would be over the song since within a year she'll have much more songs to sing.
Great Article BTW!
