This just surfaced and so far all I've seen is a scan, which is almost impossible to read. Anybody have a text version? The scanned version exists at katharinemcpheever.org but it must require younger eyes than mine to read it.
Missing paragraphs from this article!
This story has very similar content: http://www.calendarlive.com/printedition/calendar/cl-et-weektv18dec18,0,7659967.story
BUT! IT closes with these additional lines:
Still working on her debut album, McPhee doesn't mind taking longer to turn hers out than other "Idol" veterans did. "I get to make all the decisions in my own time," she says. "I'm going to put out the album when I think it's ready, even though the record people might want it at a certain time. I'm trying to be in control of things as much as I can, and that's the difference between being on 'American Idol' and having a career after it."
Now that is a whole different story!
Furthermore, if you go here: http://gallery.efanguide.com/~kmcpheever/displayimage.php?pid=5236&fullsize=1
There is an additional paragraph after the "crying hysterically" paragraph that is very revealing about Katharine's time on American Idol:
"I'd be going "I don't want to do this anymore! I hate this!"He would say, "Just get through this show, then tomorrow you can decide if you really want to keep doing it." I really had sincere feelings of not wanting to, out of complete fear and nerves. I had looked at "American Idol" as "Oh, that's not so bad; I can do that" and I was so lying to myself. I had no clue, it's more pressure than you could ever imagine."
Powerfull stuff! (And do we have Nick to thank for Katharine staying on AI? And she always looked so calm and happy) I hope Katharine writes her auto-biography soon, what else have we never heard before?
Just wanted to repeat this section. Probably the most powerfull statement Katharine has ever made about her career and it was missed in the one article and kind of got overshadowed in my previous post by the more emotional section of the difficulties of AI.
I think this deserves some interpretation and some comment. Isn't that an extraordinary amount of power to be weilded by an unproven first time artist?
This is a fascinating article (why didn't I see this sooner? Ahem, mister original poster. A link? ). Anyway, the thing about Nick. I guess we really should create NickFans.com. We might not have our Katharine without him. Actually, we most definitely wouldn't. I wish all of the people who don't like him would shut up and realize that (I know, most of the KMF community likes Nick).
I'm still amazed by the power she apparently has had in all of this. She did mention in her message to us about "How amazingly I didn't used to speak my mind..." etc, etc. And how important it's been to speak up during the whole album process. Maybe she just thought, "It can't hurt to say what I think...what can they do? Say no. Oh well." But then they listened to her and off she went...
And of course she grew up with the old stuff. That's why she's so good at it. And I'm sure that's a part of the reason she's so dead set on being "current" now. She's having a ball singing contemporary material. But then...she can still hit you with "O Come All Ye Faithful" when she wants. Or "The Christmas Song".
I dont' mean to sound like Simon Cowell ("What's the alternative? Working in a factory? Digging ditches? Don't tell ME about the pressure!") but you know this was what she wanted. But that's precisely where the pressure comes from, Simon. Good grief. If you don't feel like your whole life and future are on the line, what's to be nervous about? He was replying to Clay Aiken, by the way.
And I couldn't get to where I could find a link to a readable version of the article. That was my problem.

Is small but readable, at least to me!
I'm not sure I understand your post, it is almost like it is to the wrong thread?
