Obviously, very soon there will be an addition or two to this list. She now is #2 and #31 and maybe next week another top 10. Thanks for this post.

That's an interesting list--and proof that 'AI' has alumnae with some staying power on the charts. Though you'll notice that many of them are ranking much lower with new projects than where they would have been fresh off of 'AI.' Even Clay Aiken's new albums aren't doing fantastically...which means his Clayheads (or whatever they're called) need to be spanked...hopefully not by Clay himself. I think we'll find that Katharine will be the only one in all of those who will show up in the Top Ten ten years from now.

I had no idea there was a 'Holiday Chart' to tabulate Christmas album chartings. Just imagine if Kat had released 'O Come All Ye Faithful' as a single this week. She may have beat out Kimberly Locke's 'Jingle Bells' (good lord, that song can still chart?) to the top of the AC charts. You look at this list and realize that Kat could be all over the place there if she had some product out right now.

I'm happy to see Kat's 'OtR' single continuing to sell. I truly see that going on a long road to Gold...or maybe Platinum in another year. It's one of those singles that just keeps ticking despite the hard battle it had to fight. I've heard of singles (and albums) that go Platinum years after the fact...so I see a long life for it. Especially when Kat's album releases in January, it'll probably pick up even more steam.

Interesting (though not surprising) seeing Andrea's album charting on the Top 100 albums. I suppose you have to give credit to Andrea primarily for that--though having Kat singing with him on 'ICHFILY' probably made it go up the charts a few points higher than where it may have been. Those two could rule the classical or AC charts if they did a full duet 'Popera' album together someday.

The reality is that Kat will likely be charting in multiple different categories in ensuing years. It'll be fun seeing just where some of her hits and collab projects ultimately end up on the charts.

Greg...I have a hard time believing that Carrie Underwood won't be on the charts in ten years.  It's pretty hard to deny the success of that girl.  If I had to buy stock in any of the Idols still being hot ten years from now I'd go with Carrie.  As much as I love Katharine.  And I do think Katharine will be as well...I just think given that we've already seen Carrie sell 4 million albums and her CD is #10, 56 weeks after release she's the safer bet.

And Kelly Clarkson's probably a pretty safe bet too...although I think Carrie's a better bet.

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.

Nobody has a crystal ball obviously, but I would venture a guess that Carrie will sustain her popularity. Country stars do on a regular basis. Katharine is so versatile that she has the diversity to stick around. Kellie may be there as well, but I don't see Taylor.

Yes, I neglected to mention Carrie and Kelly. I guess I separate them from all the others who seem to be struggling to get to the top of the charts again. You would have thought Clay Aiken would sustain on the charts...but I suppose some negative press about him lately maybe soured some people. People seem soured on Ruben too for whatever reason. Carrie, Kelly and Kat are really the triumvirate of clean living and respect in the industry without people being suspicious of who they really are. It'll take a lot to knock them off their current or future pedestals. They're all quite honest with their lives, too, so people can really understand them and know they aren't hiding anything. I think people appreciate that in an artist.

I'm really starting to like Carrie a lot more than I did originally. I was a bit blase about her 'Some Hearts' album when it first released (more to do with just not taking the time to listen)--and now I'm listening to it more online. Her voice is truly right up there with Kat's vocal quality--depending on what she sings. It's no exaggeration at all to think that Kat, Carrie and Kelly will be the true triumvirate of Pop/R&B/Country in the next decade. Maybe there'll be another to join that pantheon in the coming year or two--but it doesn't really seem all that possible at the moment.

We should also mention Jennifer Hudson now that she's up for a Golden Globe in 'Dream Girls.' Though it seems people who win big awards early ('Best Newcomer' anyone?) end up being forgotten in ten years time. I see JH maybe going to Broadway more later rather than having a successful recording career--though it's hard to tell at this point. I never would have suspected Jennifer Hudson would get a Golden Globe so fast before Kat. But that's the luck of the draw in show business.

Let's just be glad Kat and Carrie are building slowly rather than being showered with big awards early. Kat, especially, has the danger of getting overexposed and imploding her career getting everything at once before slowly building to higher heights.
