Over 2,000 views--and only a cumulative 2 1/2 star rating? That's not right...though I sense the Kat envy may have started again in some people. Kat's talent and the envy people have held back for a while...but now it seems to be full throttle again. I guess we should prepare for that when Kat's album comes out and they take over the customer comment section on Amazon yet again.

Good job, Czar, of getting that uploaded to Youtube. It's amazing how fast certain vids can get to the top through word-of-mouth on Youtube. That's one of the best marketing tools ever for vids if you decide to share one or make something original. Even the Katpedia video ad that Ken helped assemble got the same type of reactions.

That better sound on Kat singing 'TCS' helped considerably in the enjoyment of her voice. When you can hear the nuances of what she's doing--there's nothing else like it out there today. Kat's truly the voice of this generation...and she HAS to sing this 'TCS' somewhere else that's viewable to a national audience. She only has three more weeks to do that--and after that, it'll have to wait until next year or until she does a Christmas album. Hopefully she'll slip in one national TV appearance somewhere before Christmas to sing that (however unlikely)...if she doesn't just put a studio version of it on her official site as part of the upcoming surprise.

If Kat sang that arrangement of 'TCS' on something like the 'Today Show'--she'd create one of the biggest positive stirs in the entire music industry.

I was noticing that in general too, that Kat haters seem to be dwindling in numbers?  I think it's a combination of getting tired of bashing her for no good reason and because they realized she's actually amazingly talented...

Congratulations Czar! That is a very beautiful song and Kat NAILED IT PERFECTLY! One of the best vids of the event too because you can hear her voice easier over the screaming of the fans. Now those bashers have no idea what they are talking about. They're just jealous because she is Beautiful and successful and they are not so they bash her to make themselves feel good. In my opinion anybody who actually takes the time because it bothers them to make nasty comments like that have NO LIFE! Now we Kat fans have a life because we are watching and supporting the growth of a beautiful human being turn into a beautiful star. Congratulations again Czar!

I just downloaded this performance on the other thread and the only thing i can say is......Kat, I love you but really......sometimes less is more. She sooooooooooo over does this thing vocally its ridiculous. What this song requires is just her simple, beautiful, full vocal treatment. This is so over the top its almost un watchable.

I respect your analysis there--but I overall disagree that Kat overdoes the melismas in her 'TCS.' Try listening to the upgraded video/sound posted tonight in the media section by CRB. You miss so much if you listen to the slightly lesser-quality versions. Kat's voice is made to be heard in the best possible sound to hear all the nuances in her phrasing and just enjoying the quality of her voice. All of those are at their highest level in her rendition at the Grove. Melismas are really annoying with many singers nowadays, though Kat manages to balance them out just right here without people thinking she's overdoing them. She might come close to overdoing a few there, but Kat's figured out how to make a perfectly-balanced performance better than almost seasoned professionals manage.

In that other media thread tonight, I made comment that a perfectly non-melismatic singing voice may seem boring to today's audiences...and even to Kat herself. The reason is because a whole generation of people have grown up hearing Whitney, Mariah and Christina take those to histrionic levels in performances and albums. It's just a part of what's expected in singing today...even though I think people are tired of overextended ones. It's almost a cliche now to use those in heavy abundance while singing. Carefully constructed ones, however, can still be very effective and satisfying to people. I think Kat makes hers very haunting in this 'TCS'--especially the final one after her breathtaking "to you" line.

Basically, I think Kat's trying to balance what you want and what people expect with someone singing in a R&B frame of mind. There's a few phrases there that's just Kat giving a straight-ahead vocal treatment...and then others that pay tribute to Mariah and Christina's renditions.

As great as Christina's old recording of this is--it's loaded with enough wild melismas that would make the greatest Italian opera composers spin in their grave.
