I love The Neptunes; I love N.E.R.D; I love Chad and Pharrell.

That's Kat's entrance into the MTV fold--even though she's co-hosted ET on MTV once. It's just interesting to see Kat getting ready to probably be a major player there, plus spice the promotion up by saying her album will be edgy...when it's really going to be clean edgy.

That "edgy" word was probably a good word to use on MTV--because that creates the feeling that she's going to be hip enough for the MTV demographic to buy her album. I'm just glad, though, that she apparently found that balance of having hot beats and hot lyrics without the album needing an 'Explicit Lyrics' stamp. That'd obviously be a career-killer anyway for any idol finalist if they did such a thing. Even Kelly C, as edgy as she's gotten doing heavy rock, hasn't used any lyrics that are offensive. I just hope Kat can find that balance without the MTV demographic noticing.

My theory is, though, that most MTV demographics don't really care if there's racy lyrics or not. It's all about the groove--and it makes you wonder why artists think they have to use explicit lyrics just to get attention. Just write a clever song with a catchy groove (and actually sing for God sakes! )--and you'll probably make millions of 18-34 year-old demographic people happy.

Cool to see Kat refer to "boo-tay" for once. She's gone from the Country-inspired "Ba-donk-a-donk" to the more urban "boo-tay" in a matter of months...so it shows the people you work with inspire your slang a little.

'Open Toes' will be making a lot of boo-tays shake on the dance floor at the beginning of the year. I see that crossing over to the dance charts as well--because that's one of the most engaging grooves I've heard in a song for a while.

By the way, where was that shot taken that showed Kat waving at the camera? MTV's headquarters? It went so fast--you couldn't really tell where she was there...

She can be "edgy" in the sense that this isn't going to be bubblegum pop that I think some people were thinking it would be.  She'll be "edgy" like Kelly Clarkson is, just in a different style of music.  Sorry for stealing from Greg again.
