On my local Fox channel they had a segment on the Idols during the news.  The showed the picture of the Idols with Bush.  Then they went to a reporter outside of Verizon Center where she said there were a lot of fans.  I saw a fan with a Kat sign.  The reporter then inteviewed a reporter from ENN (Elliott News Network).  I guess the woman does his Web site or something and she talked about how she loves the Yamin Machine and since Elliott and Taylor are friends, she also likes Taylor.

The reporter said that she heard that the Idols, including Kat, will be singing "all your favorites."  They said tickets are still available.  Although, when I last checked a couple days ago, all that was left were obstructed view so I passed.

They'll have more on the 10:00 p.m. news so I'll tape that to see if they have anything good.

P.S.  This is from MSNBC Web site (read the caption):

Bush Meets With "American Idol" Finalists

WASHINGTON - JULY 28: U.S. President George W. Bush poses with the top nine 2006 American Idol finalists Ace Young, Kellie Pickler, Travis Hicks, Paris Bennett, U.S. Bush, Lisa Tucker, Katharine McPhee, Bucky Covington, Mandisa and Chris Daughtry in the Oval Office July 28, 2006 in Washington, DC. Bush also meet with British Prime Minister Tony Blair earlier in the day to discuss the crisis in the Mideast among other issues.

I find it funny that they got Taylor's name wrong, but spelled Katharine's name right and she has an unusual spelling to her name.

haha that is funny. they wrote travis instead of taylor. i feel bad for him! but yeah it is quite ironic since Katharine's name is spelled differently than usual. (but i actually like it better spelled the katharine way!) - but! it seems like kat is getting most of the fame and most appearances compared to taylor and the rest of the  idols

Ouch, "Travis" Hicks must sting.  Just like when they had him as Taylor "Young".

At least the media isn't discriminating with their incompetence.

On a side note, I heard the often-repeated incorrect information about voting totals on MSNBC again today.  They are all using the false info about how more people voted for the American Idol than voted for the American President.

It would be an interesting tidbit if it were true, but it isn't.

Do they mean Randy Travis? Anyway, I have to admit that Taylor looked very nice(wearing a suit) and he does deserve a "thank you" for getting Kat and the others invited to such a really special place!
We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

They said he came late because he woke up late, only about 5 minutes, but I would assume that's why he wasn't there.

Too funny... I love Elliott, but who oversleeps for the President?

Is the reason why the voting thing is false because people can vote more than once for the American Idol but only once for the President? That would make sense then that Taylor got more votes than Bush because obviously people can vote more than once for American Idol. However, that does not make an accurate comparison between the two. Am I correct in thinking that?

The voting is pretty bogus because people can vote more than once, some chalked up hundreds or even thousands of votes.

What is really bogus though is that there were 60 something million votes IN TOTAL of which Katharine got something close to half, so no way did Taylor get more votes than Bush's official  total of something like 60 million in the last election.

Some times people just like the sound of something so much that even if it isn't true it becomes "true" in the public mind through repetition.

And I'm not going to get any work done today, am I?

Exactly right. And the media just likes to use big, pretty numbers to make big deals out of things. The notion that 63 million votes came in to 'AI'--they use that to make a cool pop culture reference in making people look foolish. Maybe it's some secret ploy by the media to get people to pay more attention to who we have as President (and vote more)--but it probably won't work. Overall, it's just something to talk about. Though I think it's a disservice to this country in making other parts of the world think that we're all voting on a talent show rather than picking the leader of the free world. In reality, there was probably about 10 million (if less) people who voted multiple times between Taylor and Katharine. It's very simple math...yet the media must have failed simple computations.

On the article: Travis Hicks may be Taylor's long-lost twin brother who's filling in for him while Taylor gets extra sleep. After all, to get Taylor's name wrong means something weird is afoot. Of course, they won't mention that Travis Hicks only plays the accordian.

As I said in another thread about this in Buzz: I don't think Katharine's name will ever get misspelled again. In a way, her illness made her a household name even faster...even though it was already on the fast track.

There's no evidence of it, but maybe it's a deliberate slight on Taylor for the first time. It's either that or someone in the media transcribed information from someone who doesn't write legibly. Yes, handwriting from some people is starting to get worse all the time.

The point is, if 63,000,000 phone clicks were tallied, this means that at most 31,500,001 people voted for Taylor, far fewer than voted for Bush. The TOTAL vote was 63,000,000, not the number who voted for Taylor. Based on everything I have seen, probably 34,000,000 votes were cast for Taylor, and hence perhaps as many as 1,000,000 people voted for him. Remember, many people cast over 100 votes.

Personally, I racked up about 270 votes for Kat using phone lines and a cell phone. I noted some serious irregularities in the voting system. For example, the probability of getting through on a cell phone was much different from the probability of getting through on a land line. Likewise, the probability of getting through was different in different regions of the country.
These artifacts alone could explain why southerners keep winning AI, year after year.

The other thing is that ANYONE in the U.S. can vote for AI. Only registered voters can vote for the President so yes, coupled with multiple votings, more votes would be cast for AI than for President or for local races.

I have heard many times that Taylor got 63 million votes, when in reality those votes were shared between Kat and Taylor, right?
