For those of you who MUST have the source ... although it was already copied here (its not an audio), here is the link.

http://musicstore.connect.com/custom/promos/KatharineMcPhee/KatharineMcPhee_interview.html

BTW I just re-read the interview and I don't recall her saying anything close to what is imputed by the other boards... just the usual Kat telling it like it was.

Btbtw. I liked her description of the Meatloaf duet and how she kicked it up a notch to match the emotional level Holy $%^ did she ever. That is still one of my absolute favorites. It is interesting that a "regular kind of pop singing performance" doesn't reach the level that the Kat/Meat duet did.

btbtbtw.. must use IE.. other browsers will not work

Couldn't agree more.  Loved it, loved it, loved it.  Honestly, all that intensity;  my jaw dropped when Katharine performed that song.

That duet is just unbelievable. Talk about looking like a seasoned pro! Just image how magical the whole thing could have been if we had the '70s Meatloaf instead of the 21st century version.

^^ OMG...is it ever! I LOVED that performance. If BOTH of the performers were in top notch shape...dang....that'd be the performance of the century. I literally rewound my DVR 6 times to watch it over again before watching the rest of the finale.

Kat always speaks her true feelings. I think sometimes people who are not her fans don't understand and take it in a negative way.

I thought the interview was very good, but on AI Taylor board they are "outraged" by her comments and think she is saying she is better than anyone else, etc, etc.

Unfortunately, when you are an outspoken person, your words can be twisted for those that want to find reasons NOT to like you.

While Kat has at time been a bit outspoken, I saw nothing in this interview to deserve such criticism. I found it to be quite a good, enlightening interview which covered more ground than previous interviews. If the SP is going to be upset by Kat's truthful, factual remarks, they shouldn't read her interviews! I certainly have NO interest in reading Taylors.
Exactly right? if you don't support that person, just don't read it! I won't do that myself. But anyways, awesome interview! It reminded me so much of why i love Kat so much!

Thanks for this interesting interview.

Kat answers:" Yeah, the other kids have already started rehearsing, but I have a few other prior obligations that I have to fulfill. But I'm looking forward to seeing all of them. It's gonna be exciting playing those arenas, and I get a good 20 to 25 minute set. It's exciting"

I hope this will be modified to protect her fragile vocal chords!

We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

The haters are probably "outraged" at the part about the movie offers more than anything she said, it scares them to think of how big a star she could potentially become.

With all respect to Chris and Taylor, in the words of Simon Cowell, it was like watching 2 seasoned professionals appearing as guest stars on an amateur talentime competition. That performance had real world entertainment value that people would actually pay to see.

Posted By KATHARINE McPHEE: So, I'm up for a part in Dallas right now - it's a big film that's coming out I don't know when, probably in a year or two from now. I'm up against some big actresses and I might get it and I may not, and even if I do get it, I'm gonna have to really seriously think about whether I'm gonna do it or not. And it's not like a snobby thing, it's just that coming from the show that I'm on and because I want to have legitimacy with everything that I do, I just have to be careful with the decisions that I make, whether or not that would be a good first film that I do and will I be able to nail it and show that I have actual acting chops.

If they did one of those 'Who Shot J.R.?' cliffhangers--Kat may be stuck in that franchise for a while.

I've been hearing a bit about that 'Dallas' movie for the last couple of years. Reportedly, John Travolta will play J.R....and J.Lo...playing one of the daughters of the family. I don't understand that casting, despite a lot of A-list stars. There's been no word that I'm aware of who the other stars are in this movie. But I'm not sure if that's what we want to remember Kat by as her first feature film. While it's something different (she'd do the Texan accent perfectly), I hope she'll do an excellent romantic comedy or even a musical as her first time on the big screen. Though no musicals are apparently in the pipeline, so it'll have to be something else. 'Dallas' just seems like cheese to me. And who wants to see a story of a catty oil baron family in today's times?

Thanks for posting this interview in its entirety. It seems strange some past interviews have gotten past our radars. But there's been so much that it makes sense we'd miss a few things.

That phone call Kat got from someone saying apparently Dial Idol showed Chris going home isn't all that surprising to me. I wondered if maybe people would call Kat and give info on what those stat sites were saying. That's one thing 'AI' allowed: Phoning people on your cell phone. That is, unless they were tapped. Whether Kat was surprised or not at Chris's exit--it was still a riveting moment of television. We can't expect complete reality on a reality show anyway.

I think this interview was done on the same day as that Rhapsody interview I found, because she talked about going into the studio to record the next day on there too. Apparently she has numerous tracks already done--so any other work might not take all that long after the tour.

Excellent interview, thank you to the OP. A few things here for the bashers to get all excited about but you know what? I just don't care anymore, let them get their jollies. Reading this and the other news about co-producing a play - Kat is just so much bigger than AI and the other contestants. I'm a Kat phan, not an AI fan so IMO the sooner the AI side of things is over the better. I really want to see what Kat comes up with when she is making the decisions. I'm sure it will be far superior to anything that AI will have her do.

Nice to get more info on the meatloaf performance. I was playing that over and over again last night. Sometimes I have a Kat mini-festival and that is the last one to be played and it often gets multiple plays.

She had been warned by Meatloaf during the rehearsal that he does it full out. And she saw (and shocked, remember the interview?) him doing that in the rehearsal. So Kat is well awared and prepared to kick up a notch in her performance.

You know, the more you hear Kat's interview, the more you know her true personality and thinking. Look at how she described the 3 judges, I don't think I could have said it better. And she considered Mandisa her biggest girl competitor. Once Mandisa was gone, she knew she has a good chance of being the last girl standing. Everything she said is so true to the fact. She's such a smartie.

Btw, this is truly a great interview. If we can find it in video format, that would be even better. Thanks for posting.

...and could any other idol in the history of idol have done a better job at bringing some theatre to this performance? I think not! They were so lucky to have her in the finale and not Chris or Elliot

Don't worry. Had Chris or Elliot been in the finale, they would not have been asked to perform with Meatloaf. That's for sure.

Exactly my point - and we could not have had that wonderfull performance at all.

Now, "(I've had the) Time of my life" - Chris or Elliot: who would have made a better partner for Taylor to dance with on that number???

Does anybody have any idea why they picked Meatloaf for her in the first place? I nearly fell over the first time I heard it. And they made a big deal out of Paris singing with her idol, Al Jarreau, etc. They seemed to be trying to match styles and personalities, and then Katharine and Meatloaf? Can you think of a potentially odder pairing? Andrea Bocelli and Paris Hilton?

Meatloaf was really really random, like kat said.

LOL.  Andrea & Paris.  Now that's a pairing

Haha.... Paris would probably be up to his chest at most when standing lol. Even our tall Kat with heels (5'11) is no match for Andrea's height. How tall is he actually?

Not necessarily. All the top five got a duet, and I remember reading that rehearsals started waaay prior to the finale, so i think we would have had it either way.

Thanks for posting that interview - very interesting. That is one of the things I like about Kat - she speaks her mind openly. Surprised that she actually didn't have to start rehearsing with the others, including Taylor. Wonder why? Oh perhaps the Andrea Bocelli and JC Penny concerts. Now that would definitely make sense. Mustn't forget to mark the calendar for Aug.14 and JC Penny.
