With the imminent arrival of the latest incarnation of Clark Kent a.k/a Superman comes some major casting news in the search for another super hero(ine). Joss Whedon (’Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘Firefly’), who will direct a big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman has been auditioning potential leading ladies to wrangle the golden lasso. Insiders have long speculated that Kate Beckinsale was the leading candidate to land the role. However, there’s a new woman on the scene: Katharine McPhee. That’s right, the American Idol runner-up has taken a meeting with Whedon’s people and is said to have done a screen test for the role (which would presumably be filmed after her current Idol Tour obligations). Initial word is that Ms. McPhee was very strong in her screen test. The plot thickens.
Ever since word got out that Steven Spielberg has expressed interest in meeting with American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, speculation has ensued as to what project he wants her to be a part of.
Today rumors accrued that Katharine is in talks to star in the movie version of Wonder Woman–a result of a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer.
No word from representation of any of the involved parties just yet.
Currently, a 2007 release of Wonder Woman is listed on IMDB.com, but under the direction of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly director and writer Joss Whedon, but this could be an “Alexander” situation, where multiple filmmakers are making essentially the same film. Or, Katharine could be in the running for Joss‘ film, and information simply got crossed because of the call Kat received from Spielberg.
