After attending a Broadway show recently, she "was mobbed by all these tourists," says the American Idol star. "I try to look at is as, well, we're all hot right now, but let's remember that this is a dog-eat-dog business and it could all go as fast as it came. I just keep that in mind." It's doubtful McPhee will be fading from the spotlight anytime soon: The singer releases two singles – her original song "My Destiny" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" – on June 27; she'll begin touring with the rest of the AI finalists on July 5; and she's set to record her debut album. "Definitely it'll be pop," she told us about her upcoming CD at the Brooklyn, N.Y., launch of the new Princess Cruise luxury liner. "It'll be on the radio, on the Top 40 charts hopefully." Thanks for the post. First of all, I don't like the word "mobbed". Hahaha, although with her status now, I doubt that that would be the last time she'll get "mobbed". Second, I honestly don't see her fading from the coveted spotlight. It's mostly up to us to bring it to the Top 49 Charts!!! Time to roll McPhans!!!

It's actually pretty easy to meet people in New York, which is why I long for the day when Kat goes to Broadway!

I love Kat's perspective on the whole thing. She seems to understand the fleeting nature of fame all too well. Why so many people saw her as cocky is beyond me. It's partly because she's so grounded that I think she'll be in the business for as long as she wants.

i completely agree, it's  no doubt the coming months and months of hype will stir up some egos. with her upcoming albumz, its no surprise the days are so filled with thrillingness, yet she undoubtedly seems to maintain a subtle dose of composure, class, and humility? im truly looking forward to gettin this album as well as her full albums in the future. sticking to pop is totally cool..it will definitely be a pleasure, im sure.i hope she take a good load of time to wined down for the fun events which await you, and the ENORMOUS A merican I dol TOUR awaiting her, which is reallycoming up soon. good luck..and god bless you kat!!

I commented on the article over at the 'AI' board this morning--before it was (gasp) deleted. Someone just forgot to put the People link.

This is obviously just the beginning of Kat getting mobbed wherever she goes--yet it also shows Kat putting her immediate renown in an intelligent light. But, it seems that might be a defense mechanism in order to keep herself grounded. That's a smart frame of mind to keep with her always through her emerging superstardom.  If there's always a fear that it could all end soon--then it's an effective device on keeping stardom in perspective. Even without that, though, Kat would have that inbred 'normal girl' mentality that would keep her from experiencing the almost inevitable desires to take the ego to higher places when you know the world is at your feet.

As far as turning the tables over to the people's side: I wish celebrity gawkers would learn how to control their urges to go bother the famous when they're not performing. I've seen some famous faces at certain events, but I NEVER bother them when I sense they don't want to be. And I can usually do a good job of reading people and how they feel at a particular moment. I've felt sorry for some being bombarded with people full of gall who are drawn to the famous like a magnet.

Of course, all this from someone who respects privacy to the nth degree. A good rule of thumb is to assume the star doesn't want to be bothered if they're attending a show with their family. Maybe a quick 'Hi' would be ok, but bothering them for autographs should only be done at places where the star just performed.

I know what it's like to have gawkers looking at you while trying to watch a show--and I'm sure Kat got some of those at the Broadway show she attended.  Hopefully she can at least get some private viewing areas at the theaters if she does that again.

wow, i loved how Kat acknowledged that they are really hot right now, and it's a dog eats dog kind of world in the business. she's really a smart girl, and very grounded, and very conscious of the situation she's in right now, i am most certain she'll by all means try to not get fame in her head. and i pray that Kat will get as much privacy as she wants to, but of course, let's face it, with celebrity comes being hounded by crazy fans and paparazzi. i just hope Kat doesnt get too overwhelmed by all these and lose control, but that's a bit far from happenning, she's too smart and humble. Go Kat Go! God bless you!
