Q. A President’s appearance often changes during his term in office. What about George W. Bush? Has the burden of office changed him?
Ralph Sierra, Sterling, Va.

A. We’ll let our readers judge. Here are before-and-after photos of Bill Clinton and George Bush. Which one changed the most? Cast your vote in our poll on the right.

George and Bill, before (l) and after

Coming Tuesday in Personality Parade:

Who should take on Jane Fonda’s role in the remake of the 1968 sci-fi film Barbarella? See the results of our readers' poll. Plus: Is it true that Kelly Clarkson’s summer tour was canceled because she had a nervous breakdown? Is Michael Jackson selling Neverland Ranch at a bargain-basement price? Whatever happened to the cast of Welcome Back Kotter? More.

Recently in Personality Parade:

Q. In your opinion, which Hollywood pairs had the hottest onscreen chemistry?
—K.S. Wright, Camden, S.C.

A. Our Five Hottest Couples: Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca; Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in From Here to Eternity; Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in Cleopatra; Kathleen Turner and William Hurt in Body Heat; Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in Titanic.

Q. Was Vanessa Minnillo fired by Entertainment Tonight over those tabloid knife-play photos with Lindsay Lohan?
Angie E., Huntington Beach, Calif.

A. No. Those shocking 2006 party photos surfaced after her ET contract had expired and she’d  decided to leave L.A. Vanessa, 26, moved to New York to be with singer Nick Lachey, 33, Jessica Simpson’s ex. In June, steamy shots appeared online showing the lovebirds in a hot tub in Mexico. Talk about entertainment tonight!

Q. I’m a fan of Katharine McPhee, last year’s American Idol runner-up. What is she doing now?
—Jeanette Hutchinson, Placentia, Calif.

A. McPhee, 23, may have come in second on Idol, but she’s on her way to a first-class career. She just finished a concert series to promote her song “Love Story.” And she has caught Hollywood’s attention, landing parts in two films, including a starring role in The Last Caller, an indie comedy.

Q. Hugh Laurie’s address on House is No. 221, Apt. B. Is that a tribute to Sherlock Holmes, who lived at 221B Baker St.?
—Leon Smith, Oceanside, Calif.

A. Elementary, my dear Smith. The House producers modeled their medical detective after the British sleuth. Other similarities: Both Holmes and House are cocksure and brilliant, love music and have a drug addiction.

Q. Boo and hiss on you for writing that married people make better parents! Isn’t it a couple’s commitment to their children that makes them good parents?
—L.O., Atlanta, Ga.

A. Of course. We didn’t mean to imply that single moms and dads can’t make good parents too. But a legally sanctioned marriage is recognized in most cultures as the preferred social unit for raising children. In fact, that’s one of the reasons gay and lesbian couples are demanding the right to marry.

Q. Why the long lapse between Joaquin Phoenix’s movies?
—Tanis Davis, Fredericksburg, Va.

A. The independent-minded actor is picky about scripts. He also spends a lot of time on his other interest: directing music videos. But Phoenix, 32, has two films in the can—Reservation Road with Jennifer Connelly and We Own the Night with Mark Wahlberg—both due out in October.

Q. Has Reese Witherspoon seen the Broadway musical version of her film Legally Blonde?
—Suzy M., Riverdale, N.Y.

A. No. “But Reese has been invited, and I’d love to meet her,” says Laura Bell Bundy, 26, who earned a Tony nomination for bringing the ditzy blonde-turned-law student to the stage. “I’ve seen the film a few times,” she adds, “but I didn’t try to imitate Reese—just be true to the character’s optimistic, fearless nature.”

Q. Chevy Chase was one of the funniest comics ever. What happened to his career?
Suzy Felber, West Haven, Vt.

A. Chevy, 63, tells us he took time off from his career to raise his three girls. But he’s had several films in the last few years, most recently Funny Money, and hasn’t had a hit in any. Looks to us as if he’s lost his funny bone.

Q. A while back, you said it was premature to declare that Russian President Vladimir Putin had revived the Cold War. Do you still hold that view?
N.A., New York, N.Y.

A. Yes. But the atmosphere between Russia and the U.S. has grown a lot chillier since our item appeared. Part of the reason is that Russia, like America, will hold an election in 2008, and the leading candidate to replace Putin—Sergei Ivanov, 54—has been rattling Cold War sabers to make himself more electable.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.Others stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same. That my friends is Katharine McPhee

George W. definitely aged more...

Thanks, Amanda, for the page from that. I'd say that Jeanette (if you're looking in ) should have visited KMF somewhere along the line to get updates. I guess that tells you that a good chunk of Kat's fans out there don't even go on her fansites to find out what's going on. I tried to convince people of that on the 'AI' board last year when everybody there thought they were the only ones voting for Kat on the show. Likely, more than 75% of voters were people who don't have the time (nor care) to go on the net and peruse message boards looking for news and information amid the silliness.

At least the media realizes the brightness of Kat's showbiz future. Not a single alumnae from 'AI' are making two movies (one probably a box-office hit, the other a critical hit) back to back in a month's time. I'd say it's highly likely, too, that Kat will use that consolidation process and sing some songs on the soundtracks to both films. Considering Nick's producing "The Last Caller"--the soundtrack could revolve around Kat herself doing most of the vocal songs if there are any. Some indie films with strict budgets don't even use music...so maybe I'm wrong. I have no doubt, though, that we'll be seeing Kat doing more singing soon on soundtracks to movies before she does a second studio album if she gets the luxury to do another one.

^Yeah Greg, we're mainly just a home for the diehards.
It seems that most of Kat's fans never make it any further than the 'official site'.

I just wish there was some way to get them to come here, not necessarily to post, but to have access to up-to-date info on what Kat's up to each day!

Youd think anyone who was interested would just google her name and try out different sites. I guess I just got lucky by getting into katfandom when I did, eh?

That's why I try to post links to places like this, and the big photo galleries, when I'm on sites where she has a forum but it isn't a dedicated fan site.

katpedia.com - watch and listen to Idol, pre-Idol, and post-Idol McPhee performances all in one convenient location
