She's playing a pregnant hippie...well...it's not a pregnant nun but it will have to do...and I'm sure poppa McPhee is relieved about that!!

in my mind the ultimate "Idol" contestant of the pre-lapsarian era, the one who most perfectly combined the demands for relentless emotive singing and the wow factor -- Katharine McPhee

Here's another article from >>Reuters / Hollywood Reporter<<

By Borys Kit and Tatiana Siegel

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "American Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee will make her studio acting debut as a pregnant hippie in an untitled comedy starring Anna Faris.

McPhee, Emma Stone, Rumer Willis, Kat Dennings and comedian Dana Goodman have signed on to co-star in the feature, which is being directed by Fred Wolf for Columbia Pictures and Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Prods.

The script, by "Legally Blonde" writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, centers on a Playboy bunny (Faris) who gets kicked out of the Playboy Mansion and becomes the house mother to the lamest sorority on campus.

The casting fills in the major roles of the sorority sisters and solidifies the project as the first female-driven comedy to come out of the production company.

Stone will play the president of the sorority; Willis will play an insecure young woman who wears a back brace even though she could have had it removed years ago; Dennings will portray a women's studies feminist; and Goodman will play the sister who keeps switching majors and should have graduated years ago.

Also cast is Sarah Wright ("Made of Honor"), who will play a conniving young woman from a popular sorority.

The comedy marks the second role McPhee has booked in as many months; in June, she nabbed a role in "The Last Caller," a dark romantic-comedy independent film. Her casting in the Faris project, along with "Idol" finalist Jennifer Hudson's acting turn in "Dreamgirls," shows that "Idol" is becoming a fertile ground for finding acting talent as well as vocal talent.

Stone is shooting "The Rocker" opposite Rainn Wilson and will be seen in Columbia's "Superbad" as Jonah Hill's love interest.

Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, continues to make her push into the family business. She recently was cast in "The Sophomore" for the Yari Film Group. Dennings is best known for her performance as Catherine Keener's daughter in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," while Goodman appeared in "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo."

Here's a little inside info from poster "MissKittyMcHicks" on IDF who used to post here under the SN "McElphaba":

-"...BUT the kick ass thing about that is that the character she's playing was never released to casting, which means they had to have specifically called her in for it. WOOOO Kat! How on earth they pegged her to play a pregnant hippie is anyone's guess, but at least no one can hate on her for playing a character with any of the "bad qualities" all those haters think she has cause they're stupid and wrong. LMAO, a pregnant hippie. This should be special."

-"Ok, so I have been digging based on the new info, and her character's name is Becky. From what I've read, she is very ditsy, but not a stoner as far as I can tell. The whole group of girls seems like a diverse set who want to have fun just like the other sororities, only without being a bunch of preppie biatches in the meantime. Kat's sorority is Theta, and their enemies are Phi Mu. AND Kat definitely has at least one singing scene, although this one won't be anything her character will be really proud of...hehe

EDIT-Ok, the more I'm reading, I'm getting mixed signals on exact character names. There is one girl who is pregnant, Becky and one who is a hippie, Harmony. I'm trying to figure out exactly which one she actually is."

-"Ok, so I have confirmed that these are two separate characters. The hippie and the pregnant ditz. My money is on Becky, the pregnant ditz, unless they plan to combine the characteristics of both, but I'm thinking she fits Becky more than Harmony, and Becky has to end up singing by herself at one point, which again points to Kat. LMAO So anyway, take that for what it's worth, but as of now those are two different characters in the script"

-"Harmony doesn't seem to have such meaty scenes, so they could very well combine Harmony's hippiness into Becky's character"

Playing a pregnant nun would probably be just as fascinating of a character--even though it'd probably get criticized by a lot of groups if a film like that was made.

That's interesting Kat was chosen at the last minute for this role. It shows good faith from Adam Sandler (if he had a hand in choosing some of the cast) who probably saw Kat's acting in that lonelygirl15 webisode earlier this year. That's been the only thing so far that's shown Kat's natural acting ability. And getting a part based on small examples like that is pretty rare in the acting business.

Well, I hope Kat keeps the hippie aspect to her character, despite my initially thinking her playing a hippie wouldn't be the best thing. Just playing a pregnant girl alone should provide a character with a lot of interesting shadings...especially if the character has no real direction in her life as it seems many of the characters experience.

More children from famous actors are popping up everywhere now. I had no idea Rumer (now there's a very hippie name ) Willis was acting now. You're seeing a lot more offspring from past famous actors making it in the business. But that's nothing unusual when it's always been that way in Hollywood. It just seems that we're seeing more of them in recent years than it used to be. That proves that who you know in the business helps get feet in the door...

At least Kat got her acting parts based on pure talent alone--assuming she did knockout audition acting tests.

Considering who has written the screenplay, I'm certain her lines will be hilariously funny. I hope Katharine is equal to carrying it off. This movie could put her on the Hollywood acting map where many roles will be offered.

For some reason this picture makes me think of the "before" sorority girl who gets made over into somebody smashing. I know, even with glasses and no makeup she still looks better than 9/10 of everybody else out there, but they have to start somewhere. Maybe they could grow her eyebrows together or something...

I don't want to start any rumours but, this may be a big coincidence. I live in a town (which shall remain nameless) in L.A. - we have many movies and videos made in our "uptown historical district" all the time. example - Witches of Eastwick, Back to the future....anyhow this morning as I was going to work there was a movie being filmed, it just looked like a bunch of people crossing an intersection as I drove through. It was early in the morning so the area is usually empty. There had to be about 50+ people walking all over, so it was obvious and then I saw the camera boons (I think that's what they're called) --Any how I read that this new Adam Sandler movie was going to start shooting on July 23. --Also I forgot to mention this is a college town -and the college is just blocks away from the area they were shooting. ---It would be really awesome if this was "the location" ---It just seems too coincidental that another movie would start shooting on the same day, in an area that would fit the synopsis.......If I can find out any more info, I will let you know......

I checked the same area this morning on my way to work- same time as yesterday - there was no filming crew today in that spot ---they either moved to a different location - or it was something else completely. I'll ask around, the sandwich shops usually know all the local gossip - and I'll keep my eyes open around the college.
