For a price, festival-goers see four sizzling performers

For the first ticketed concert in Mayfair's 21 years, you'd expect officials to put together a knockout show.

And for the most part, B104 Night on Friday met that requirement, with a rich and nuanced set by singer-songwriter Mat Kearney, a saucy turn by talented ''American Idol'' runner-up Katharine McPhee and a goofy and entertaining show by closers Bowling For Soup.

....McPhee was probably the surprise of the night, with a confident five-song set that made it clear America got it wrong by choosing Taylor Hicks over her.

The 23-year-old McPhee's voice rang like a bell, whether she was belting, as on the opening ''Love Story,'' or doing vocal histrionics, as on Alanis Morissette's ''Mary Jane,'' which she sang on a stool and was rewarded with strong applause.

Dressed in a clingy purple shirt dress and jeans, with two backup singers, she had the stage presence of a veteran -- dancing seductively or choreographed or just funky fun on the closing ''Open Toes.''

Only on her hit ''Over It'' did she have any miscue -- a squeaky note that you have to believe will disappear with polishing.

Very cool especially after the "so-so" review from Minneapolis.  I have to believe that she just felt out of place at that show and it affected her performance.

This review is very interesting because it's from the same guy that was somewhat critical (that's harsh) of her in that article he wrote.  Well not critical of "her" but he wasn't super kind to how she's done with her album so far.

I'm happy he was surprised that she was so good.

Funny how one review says she's "awkward" in her dancing but this one says she's "seductive".  I guess everyone's got their own opinion.

Who wrote the review that said "awkward" ? Woman or man. Just curious. We know "seductively" came from a guy.
