Written by a Face reporter but still, she didn't have to be so effusive if she wasn't genuinely impressed:

Last night, SELF's April cover girl Katharine McPhee hosted SELF and VH1's Hollywood's Tightest Bodies bash at Tenjune in NYC's meatpacking district, and I have to say, she all but illuminated the party. Katharine spent most of the evening standing on a banquette in the VIP area, talking and laughing with friends, dancing and singing along with the music (she was PSYCHED when Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape" came on) and sipping red wine. The girl came to par-tay. Definitely the belle of the ball. She also performed her new song, "Love Story" and sounded amazing. She was all over the mini-stage in her party dress and bare feet (such a classic move that I happen to be a huge fan of), then burst out into the audience to dance with the crowd. She even hopped onto the railing of the VIP area. It was a totally lively, energizing performance. Afterward, she thanked everyone for coming and said the party felt like an early birthday celebration (her big day is coming up on Sunday.) Then she directed the crowd to the monitors to watch her new video for "Over It." I was really struck by Katharine's presence and comfort level in the spotlight. It's hard to believe that just over a year ago she was a regular American girl. Then came American Idol, and then...Fame with a capital F. But she's really got the whole thing down. One of those people who seemingly was born to be a star.
While Katharine held court, Vanessa Minnillo kicked back in the VIP area, Molly Sims chatted with Eve and MTV's Susie Castillo hung with SELF fitness director Meaghan Buchan. They recently had a blast working together in Palm Beach on a fitness feature for the magazine,) so they spent the night catching up and talking shoes. (When Meaghan visited TRL recently, Susie was wearing a killer pair of cream heels with gold embellishment from Beyoncé's shoe line. She stepped out in them again last night and told Meaghan she wears them all the time. She's obsessed.) That's the scoop on the party, but for more on Katharine and the hottest ladies in music, pick up SELF's April issue, on newsstands Tuesday! —Amy Gallo
Fame with a capital F. Collette, you know some people are famous, others are FAMOUS. Get it? Wow, that's really cool. It certainly seems like she's set on making "Love Story" the next single. "Belle of the ball". Yeah, I think we all knew this.
And people...this is why the skittish album sales don't matter a whole lot compared to someone like say Taylor. Katharine will get plenty of chances to get things right because she's got "star power". It'll happen. I think people in the know understand this.
I love that she decided to go shoeless. Not that it's surprising. But the best thing is how the writer mentioned how good she sounded and that she PERFORMED great considering that's been a knock on her in the past. That's she's a good singer but not much of a performer.
