Haley Scarnato Is Covered in Kat Hair!

It looks like "American Idol" wannabe Haley Scarnato is sporting the same hair extensions previously worn by last season's runner-up, Katharine McPhee. Unbeweavable!

On-set sources tell TMZ that it's not uncommon for the show to recycle things like hair extensions, jewelry and other pricey accessories from contestant to contestant and from season to season. Just keep the communal lady locks away from Sanjaya!

A few weeks back, Simon revealed he couldn't remember Haley's name. Perhaps the McPheever mane will help Haley leave a lasting impression. Or not.

Update:

In a conversation with Lisa Fox on Star 98.7's Morning Show, "American Idol" hair guru Dean Banowetz admitted the extensions belonged to Kat. Don't worry, Banowetz says he "washed them up" before using them on Haley.

That's ridiculous. It's interesting press for Kat, but I'd say it's positive overall. And it seems like the extensions were first used on Kat (when saying they were "Kat's extensions", not the extensions used on Kat, you know?)... it's still an odd story haha

well, Kat is i think one of the 1sts who are very fond of extensions, sooo i guess the stylists only had the brunette extensions coz of Kat. of course Carrie used extensions 2 yrs ago as well, but we all know Kat can't use that! LOL..

When first seeing this article, I thought there was some kind of serious problem with Haley Scarnato. Though I think it's obvious she wasn't covered in hair tonight.

Yes, I bet those extensions are framed up on a wall somewhere after Kat wore them. And I'd feel weird being the person who had to throw those in a washing machine after Kat wore them. Heck, why re-use them like that? They shouldn't recycle hair extensions, even though they must be expensive to make. After all, some poor soul had to give away their own hair to make them. Hopefully they're cleaned a little more professionally, too, without the washing machine/dryer process. Maybe that's Sanjaya's problem if he's wearing Paula Abdul extensions...and he's allergic to detergent.

Perhaps the press about this made Haley's people realize that it's best to leave those extensions out tonight. I'm all for women wearing their natural hair anyway if they possibly can. What made Kat's extensions no big deal is that we know she could grow her hair that way naturally if she wanted to. The fakery comes in more when you know no one could grow their hair that thick. So, to me, those hair extensions become almost a natural part of her.

If those hair extensions ever go up on eBay--and one of you decides to frame one of them--you could just tell them it's a hairball.
