Hi guys, I got back late from Kimmel and am posting now.
I am sure there will be lots of posts about this show so I'll just add what was pertinent to me.
First off, the concert was "sold out" and had a decent crowd. It pleased me to see that the crowd was a complete mix of all ages and races, and was half men and women. If Kat has this kind of broad appeal, her CD will sell well. There was a large contingent of Kat fans wearing the familiar orange shirts. They had their nicknames printed on their shirts and I recognized one - "Maddie" as a frequent poster. She seemed shocked when I introduced myself to her and told her I've read her posts on the internet. There were others with hand-decorated shirts, and several waved signs and pictures. I waved my CD.
As I was there only for the concert, I went right up to the stage, and only one person was in front of me. Kat was only about 10 feet in front of me singing. (Awesome). As will probably be posted, she sang 5 songs, Over It, Love Story, Home, Each Other and Open Toes. The last 2 songs were a bonus and will probably not be on the Kimmel site. I think she was just trying these songs for the first time. She even said she might forget some words and when she did on Each Other she said "I told you so." I was near a speaker and it seemed like her voice was much louder than the band and backup singers. I am sure the TV version sounded different.
It was good to see her more relaxed. The fan response was spectacular; a total lovefest. She did best with Love Story and Home.
Now comes the good part. After the concert was over, Kat came to the front of the crowd and signed autographs. She was very friendly with the crowd and posed for pictures. She seemed to know several people in the audience. Before I could get to her, security shooed all of us out, but told us Kat would meet us behind the stage in an alley to sign more autographs.
My friends and others thought this was a ruse to get rid of us, but sure enough, she came to the alley after a few minutes to sign. The security guys asked us not to crowd because she would sign autographs for all of us. This shows what a great person Kat is. She signed autographs, and posed for pictures for everyone who hung around. She was really good to all the fans there. So those bashers who say she's stuck up and aloof towards fans are totally full of it since I witnessed her interactions with fans personally. When she got to me, I was totally star-struck and in a daze. I mean, my idol is now mere inches away from me and talking to me. She signs my CD (attached) and I am so nervous I break into "Valley-speak." I said "You are so great. I voted for you like a million times!" She smiled and said "Aww, that was so sweet of you. Thanks for your support." (I can die happy). One of the women who was an "orange shirt" took a picture of me with Kat. If you are reading this, again please keep my picture off the internet. Thanks.
Anyway, the things that struck me was of course, her beauty. I don't think I've ever met anyone that beautiful in person before. The other thing is her height. I am over 6 feet tall and in her heels she was only a little shorter than me. She also has really broad shoulders as I had my hand on her left shoulder for the picture and it was a reach. Also the sides of her hair were touching my cheek! For those curious, I can't really describe what she smelled like. We were outdoors and if she wore perfume it wasn't heavy. By far, this beats the Leno show and even the AI taping by leaps and bounds. Meeting my idol was such an amazing experience. Sincerely, Dan
Hey Phee - I wish I'd known you were there and I would've said "hi".
I'll post my photos later (after work) from last night. The whole thing was great and she was so sweet and nice to everyone. I agree with you, that the 1st thing that strikes you is her beauty and her height - she is soooo tall. The other thing that strikes you upon hearing her is how much better her voice sounds in person - just clear as a bell.
