Catch Kat in The House Bunny in theaters nationwide NOW! fandango.com
I think I'll just keep them separate?
That's the problem with CapDVHS. Obviously a much bigger problem for you than for Shady and me, though. At least we can watch on the TV while capping.
VLC? The following works for me but there's a half second delay between VLC and the TV. And the audio stutters. VLC goes up to 40% cpu.
File > Open Capture Device Default video and audio devices OK
If that doesn't work,
File > Open Capture Device Refresh list (next to video) Video device name: Select the appropriate device
If that doesn't work, repeat the Default choice. Sounds strange but you never know!
woo hoo! Raise a toast to CRB!
You are very welcome, diff. One of the primary reasons I bought the Samsung T-165 HD tuner/ JVC DVHS deck that I did way back when was that it was one of the few consumer HD tuners ever made that had Firewire connections and it was a relief that this thing actually worked.
Yes, definitely separate files the only question is do you want to have the lead in material (Kat chatting with the little girls on the SOTR clip and the Kat pimpage on the the Bocelli duet, respectively, essentially like the way Vinman clipped them) and if you do decide to do it that way does that take them over the magic 500 MB file size for an unsplit upload. Hopefully, it won't.
I'll try to monitor it with VLC the next time and see if it works. Thanks for the tip. And happy capping.
Projected sizes
kids + otr = 480MB
phil/robin + foster + sn = 546MB
The next clip is My Destiny from the Top 2 performance night, I've included the lead in video with Dan, Peisha & Kat and all post performance judges comments with phone number call outs. Katharine looks so beautiful.
I've upped the file size to 275 MB per split archive and got it down to only three chunks. Again, join with HJ Split.
Chunk 1 (275 MB)
Chunk 2 (275 MB)
Chunk 3 (~230MB)
Note to any takers on this file, the time length shows in the player as ~ 22 minutes and it isn't anywhere close to that long. It plays and is searchable however. I have no idea what caused this anomoly. diff, any ideas?
I've gone ahead and gotten most of the major AI5 related stuff off the the tapes that I have for Kat and transferred onto the hard drive , diff. Here is what I moved over and the order I plan to upload them
JC Penney Jam (done)
My Destiny (done)
I Believe I Can Fly (full with Clive, judging and Ryan stuff)
I Ain't Got Nothing But The Blues (Ryan sitdown, judges, ect)
Black Horse And The Cherry Tree (Top 2 in black pants and bare midriff )
SOTR (Top 2) (some issues, see below)
Boy vs. Girl (Taylor/Kat montage)
Top 3 Night phone # recap with rehearsal footage
Top2 Ph# w/ rehearse footage
Other stuff I capped and could upload :
Bad Day w/ Dan Powter
JC Penney Jam McBride performance
Anything else from the last three performance shows and 2 hr finale that you want, since you have the episodes in Torrent/eMule quality you have a good idea what is in them.
Everything looks good except for a drop out in the acappella part of SOTR from Top 2 night, I capped it about five times and it is there every time, unfortuantely. With these DVHS tapes sometimes you recap it and the pixelation/drop out/ stream disturbance goes away and sometimes it doesn't , this SOTR problem didn't.
So diff that is the road map and I'm planning to put up my oversized unedited files and let you edit and subdivide them as you see fit and then I'll download whatever you upload and perhaps I'll replace these monsters with the trimmed and subdivided pieces.
Anyone else who wants to try their hand at HD video editing, remuxing and whatnot can feel free to grab these too. [ Do I hear crickets?] No takers, huh? Actually, one other person, besides you, did downloaded that 1.3 GB behemoth.
I was going to remove the pic from this reply, but I just couldn't.
JCPJ should be up by tomorrow! I took awhile checking that I cut at keyframes and that the 2 mpgs can be rejoined without a lost frame.
That's scary, I was going to request the AI vids in exactly that order! Only one other downloader?! hmmmm. Shady? trippy, is that you? ooh the mystery!
HD MD and IBICF. I'm positively giddy!
The Grove event wasn't recorded in HD.
That image above is a still from the video, it is My Destiny from the AI5 finale and yes it is HD720p and if you read the post I say that the time is definitely wrong. I'll post the stats for the video :
Size: 778MB (816108564 bytes)
Media Length: 00:22:10 <===== And this is wrong. I know that and said so.
Video: MPEG2 Video 1280x720 59.94fps 19000Kbps [Video] Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 448Kbps [Audio] Subtitle: DVD Subpicture [Subtitle]
These are coming off of DVHS tapes that I made back in the spring of '06 and sometimes the DVHSCap program, the program I'm recording the stream to my hard drive with, gets the times correct and sometimes it comes up with the total program length from the entire tape ( 2+ hours ) and sometimes some number in between ( like here). The file plays just fine though.
OK, diff here is the next one I Believe I Can Fly.
Once again the cap is a generous cut with Clive's talk with Kat, performance, judging and phone numbers. I had done this IBICF cap yesterday but it had the time "issue" that I discussed above so I redid it and now the cap has the correct time showing in MPC, although in VLC it show 0:00/0:00 still. Oh, well.
Anyway, Sendspace was acting up today and wouldn't take my uploads at a reasonable rate so I just went ahead and put it up at MegaUpload. I had the chunks sized at 225 MB for Sendspace's limits so I zipped parts 2 and 3 into a .rar archive.
Here are the specs, although I find it hard to believe anyone is looking for videos in this ancient thread:
Size: 634MB (665178780 bytes)
Media Length: 00:06:06
And a still from the file:
And the links (Note these MegaUpload links are only good for 45 days after the last download.)
Chunk 1
Chunks 2 & 3 (in a .rar)
That's strange. I don't know enough about the TS format to say exactly what it is, but timing and stuff (audio delays, sync) always keeps coming up.
?! MU was slow for me so I did a sendspace upload at the same time.
That's my expression when I saw your HDs were coming up. wheee!
OMG, there's more HD coming!?!?
CRB, I can't believe you still have this stuff saved, but thank god you never gave up!
This is awesome!
As a poker player, I'm sure you are familiar with the phrase, " An ace in the hole." I just happened to have one in the hole plus few extra up my sleeve.
OK, next up is the vastly under rated (by many...not me performance of I Ain't Got Nothing But The Blues, which I consider to be a vocal tour de force by Katharine but was dismissed by Simon & Co. with everything but a wave of the hand. The specs are the same as above (I don't want to keep posting the same specs over and over. Suffice to say, Fox HD720p and about five and half minutes long, another generous cut with a sit down chat with Ryan, performance, judging and phone numbers. Here is a screen shot:
Katharine McPhee Says Rock On!
And here are the links, MegaUpload again ( 505 MB total)
Chunk 2
Download both and join with HJSplit.
This time thing is weird. I would've thought if you cap it twice, they'd both be the same. Do you use the CapDVHS settings that Shady and I use? I wonder if a D-VHS needs different settings. I PMd you
I have a Scientific Atlanta HD-DVR 8300. I also have a pc with an S-Video an audio input. Additionally, i have an external "DVD + R DL"/"DVD + Rewritable"/"DVD R/RW" unit. I don't know what half that means. Been reading through this thread to figure out what i should do. I have a bunch a ton of stuff on my DVR dating back to idol and would like to get it online. I'll do my best to keep going through this thread so i understand everything. Maintaining quality in the transfer is of the upmost importance to me.

I don't know what you've got on there ken, let's hope it is something fresh or will substantially upgrade an existing file.
First be clear on one thing, anything HD coming out of your SA HD-DVR 8300 via an S-video OUT is going to take a huge quality hit. S-video spec maxes out at 480i in the U.S. (you aren't in Europe, are you?
I'm figuring most of it is SD (standard definition) video and both getting good quality and capping this to a DVD recorder may be easy (or not so easy) depending on what the inputs on the DVD recorder look like. Check the back of your DVD recorder and see if it has an S-video IN and R/L Audio IN jacks, if not this might be more difficult. If I had a choice I would just his record on the DVD recorder.
Did your PC come preloaded with any video capping software? Many A/V compatible PCs (well, the ones from big manufacturers) do and you could use that to capture the video too.
i'm not in europe, no, but some people say i'm from another planet.
1) DVD-R External Unit: It has nothing more than a usb input
2) Laptop: Here's what i have. Not sure if it has the media stuff. Here's the specs
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet.jsp?poid=351572
3) Also, i have an mp3 player that can record too. I wonder if i could hook that up and get mp3s?
