Yea, czar, chapters are going to be important, simply because if the thing is 60 minutes, or 80 minutes or something, a person is going to want to be able to very easily jump to kat and kellie singign together or something that's somewhere in the middle of the DVD.

Oh yes, of course. Don't worry I'll add chapters.

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, I don't know why I didn't connect the dots before BUT:

Has anyone considered the legal situation of shipping amateur concert videos on DVD? I've had some of mine pulled from YouTube for "Copyright Violation" - yes, amateur concert videos, the last time it was kmcphan's original of the Kat to Kellie SOTR. I have no idea about copyright law, I kind of figured "well ok" when they pulled my videos of the tv show performances, I thought that home made video was safe. Apparently not.

Displaying a video for free on the internet is one thing. "Selling" it, even if just for costs and materials and not for profit, is a couple of steps further over the line.

Maybe someone else has some expertise in this area.

I know we are all just wanting to do this for altruistic reasons to support Katharine, but there may be legal ramifications!

I'm not too worried about it (if we're as small as we are 19 mgmt won't care0 BUT I understand where you are coming from and we don't want letters from lawyers.

The problem is, we can't expect mcpheever63 to front the costs. And what about shipping and handling?

I really don't know if charging for costs and shipping and handling is a different legal situation than charging for that as well as charging something on top and making a profit. There are people selling vinman type dvd's compilations of Katharine (and probably other) AI performances on ebay, probably acquired the same way I got mine - off the internet, and they are obviously doing it for a profit but are too small to go after.

I don't know, it occured to me, I just thought I'd throw it out there and make of it what you will! I'll say no more about it.

Pheenom, where should I send you the links?

and I think the DVD's would be fine. I've read something about this before and someone said :
you can only charge a price that covers the cost of the tape itself and shipping costs.

Ejoy, we're starting a website called katsconcerts.com and we need one person to funnel the content through.

basically other people send suggestions to you, and then you decide what goes and pass it along to the website manager.

You seem quited dedicated in this thread, so you definitely appear to be the right person. However, perhaps it's not a commitment you want to take on. Let us know if you are interested. There's a thread about it entitled "media project for kat's family" on Kat chat.
Hi Kenneth!

I read your message from the tour thread, and I would gladly help you guys in anyway I can. Maybe you can ask Pheenomenon to help in choosing the content as well, as he is very intellectual about uploading good quality videos at different websites. He's also the one who usually keeps me updated about the new videos uploaded by the KMF and IDF members. We have each other's e-mail addresses, too, so that wouldn't be a problem anymore.

Email address in my profile, thanks!

I'll be putting together the DC concert page tomorrow. I have most of it I think, check what I have and send me anything I haven't:

www.pheenomenum.com

The DC concert section is just after the orange kat project message.

I looked at it several times and could not see the difference

I don't see the point! If you are a company it makes sense to cover all the dot possibilities. If you want people randomly trying to find you by typing in a phrase then you want to cover a few possilities. But this is sort of an invite only isn't it? We aren't playing the search engine game and trying to get a whole lot of "hits"

EDIT: Funny - I don't mind buying the first domain name at all, but buying a second "just in case someone types it wrong" domain - no way! Anyone is free to buy any domain names they want and I'll tell you where to stick it - er...point it....

It's all the same, but I edited these videos and added titles and ending credits, etc ..

So when do you guys want me to start informing Peisha? I'm not sure if she's even aware of this project. Let me know anytime if you guys are close to finishing the first edition. Then give me whatever you want to let her know. I'll put everything together with some explanations and credits and email to her.

I've dealt a little with copyright law--and I can tell you that as long as this is for private parties, there's nothing to worry about. It's only when a DVD is put on a wider market (i.e. eBay) when you'll be violating copyrights. Shipping charges applied to people who will only use it for non-profit purposes shouldn't be a problem. Although it's best not to broadcast it too much, because people who hold the copyrights to those things sometimes blow a gasket if they find out someone's using their material without forking out dough. But you're still within legal rights...despite intimidation still being possible (as Ken suggested).

Copyrighted material on the net is a big deal issue in the U.S. (and international) courts. There's already a lot of litigation over the use of photographs on fansites and using ones copyrighted by photojournalists. There's a 'fair use' law that applies to that though. All you have to do is give credit to the person who did the photograph (or media) and that's all that's necessary on an indie fansite to fall within that 'fair use.' If it's a much bigger fansite that gets national attention (well, that may include KMF)--it gets more complicated. Many a fansite have had to take down all photographs because of photojournalists complaining about it being used unfairly. But photo credit is overall what's necessary to fall within the law.

It was a good idea to question this, though, because copyright concerns are a major problem in the creative industry. Unfortunately, it's getting too complicated for its own good lately. Some more defined laws
