Well - isn't this great how we have all come together and shared our outrage, defended our girl and now we can laugh about it?

I thought there was something odd about KatFan49's thread. The title was a dead giveaway "Rita Cosby Shares Her Feelings", had to be a spoof.

You've all just made Rita Cosby extremely angry. And you can't make Rita angry--because she turns green and into the Incredible Rita if you tick her off too much. You thought her voice was as bad as it is...just wait until you hear that roar that emanates from her when she turns into her pumped-up alter ego. Ever hear a sea lion on steroids when it's mad?

I decided not to write Rita anything nasty, because I figure her show is not worth saving anyway. Writing her will probably make her overly contrite and somehow save enough face for MSNBC to keep her show on another dreadful year.

MSNBC has to get rid of that show and give Rita something else to do. She used to cover the White House for Fox News, and maybe she could go back to that...if she could convince historians there that she wouldn't make the paint on historic buildings in D.C. start peeling.

Since the MS on MSNBC stands for Microsoft--they should give Bill Gates a new entertainment/technology/news show to replace Rita's. He's going to have more time for it now. And if we complain too much about a biased story he covers, he'd probably just write us all a check to keep us quiet.

Greg, I also decided not to write anything nasty.  I considered writing her a "nice" letter with bitter undertones, but also decided against that.  And I will now tell you why.

I was going to take the "I'm a big fan of yours, but I'm so disappointed..." approach, which required me to research some information on Rita.

Well, it turns out, folks, that Rita's MSNBC show Rita Cosby: Live & Direct was just cancelled by the newly named MSNBC General Manager Dan Abrams.  (Most of you will recognize him as a former NBC and Court TV reporter.)

Before that, she was fired by Fox News.

I chose not to write because I realized that she must be trying in vain to get viewership up with these tabloid-toned shows.

I didn't get to see the video posted, so I am assuming she was subbing on a different show since her last show aired weeks ago?

No point in kicking a Rita when she's down.  Well, if she's down and still talking or making noise of ANY kind, I would re-consider the no-kicking thing.

Anyway, I'm getting sleepy so I apologize that my post is all over the place.  I can clarify tomorrow if anybody cares, lol.

That's very enlightening--so thanks, Steve. I thought I'd heard a rumour that her show was cancelled, but I thought that was just wishful thinking.

Yes, this was Scarborough Country that Rita was subbing on. I don't know much about that show, but it may be a bit more rag-like than her other show was and she was perhaps trying to live up to the theme of the show.

Now that Rita may be out of a job--I'm glad I didn't write a nasty letter. But she should learn to do better research on stories, which is so surprising coming from someone who covered the White House at Fox News. Do you know why she was fired from there? Sure, the easy thing to say is her voice...but then, what else could it be?

CRB was talking about the concerts. Each Idol gets paid $1,000 per concert regardless of where they finished.

I couldn't imagine that the Idols would be paid $9,000 or more for each episode of AI. They probably got a stipend (which equates to not much). After all, they got free room and board, free transport, free styling, money for clothes to wear on the show.

In the video they mentioned that Kat should have come to the shows and waved to the fans and/or signed autographs. Yes, it would have been nice to see her, but I think it would have been harder for her NOT to talk. Her fans would be talking to her and she'd want to respond and wouldn't be able to. I think it be hard for Kat and fan. So I don't blame her for not going on the tour. When you don't feel well, little things make you feel worse.

EXACTLY!!!!!!

but rita dont have the common sense to realize that!

Greg, Rita's "fan site" (I swear there is one, but it's one of those "MSN Group" things) posted a link to Fox News for fans who wanted to object to Rita being "let go".  I don't know why, but I assume they just chose not to renew her contract.

Believe it or not Rita has won 3 Emmy awards for investigative reporting in the past.  Perhaps she should go back to being a field reporter, because she sure hasn't been successful hosting hour-long programs.

Better yet, she can always turn to print journalism.  Though, I'm afraid that once I see her name, it will be that voice I hear in my head reading her articles out loud

Thanks, Steve, for the additional news on that. I'm not surprised she's won 3 Emmy Awards, or she wouldn't have gotten her own show otherwise. I remember her covering the White House on Fox--and I think she did a lot of work during 9/11 in particular when the Pentagon was hit.

Apparently she just wanted to try something different and failed at it. That's happened to other former field reporters...like Geraldo.  But once you're a field reporter...you always have that in your blood.  The ones in that vein who try something different usually end up going back to what they were truly best at.

I guess one explanation for Rita's voice: She had to yell a lot while being a field reporter...or maybe has screaming tantrums before going on the air. Likely, though, it's just a genetic problem. (Hopefully her parents didn't sound like that too.)

It's just odd, though, that someone with such an awful voice would go into that profession. Surely some mentor came up to her in journalism school to have a little talk with her. Most people in TV news have melodious voices that pretty much sound alike.

I just have to wonder how Jessica Sierra--who regularly dissed Carrie Underwood (!)--is in any way to be considered a reliable source. She and Scott Savol have been making the rounds at various venues and it always seems like a competition as to which one of them can smear the most current and former contestants in the snarkiest way.

Pretty presumptuous for a 10th-place finisher.

Although that's probably not entirely fair. This year's 10th-place finisher has loads of talent and seems like a classy gal.

And THIS year's 10 place finisher is about 5 years younger than she is... talk about pathetic.

From imdb's database:

Jessica Ann Sierra
Date of birth (location)
11 November 1985
Tampa, Florida, USA

Height
5' 1" (1.55 m)
Trivia

She competed in a January 2004 episode of Star Search.

She had previously auditioned for American Idol 3 before becoming a finalist in the fourth season.

From Wikipedia listing:

Lisa Gabrielle Tucker
(born
June 13, 1989 in Newport Beach, California) is an American singer, musical theater actress, and was the tenth-place finalist on the fifth season of American Idol.  She is a musical theater actress, and has been a finalist on three talent shows, American Idol (tenth place), Star Search (Top Twelve Finalist), and “Next Biggest Star” which she won twice.

So  Jessica is about three and a half years older than Lisa and not eight years older.  I remember that Ms. Sierra was one of the youngest contestants last year so I had to do a fact check here.
