A question for those who have spent time at Kats Concerts.

I am consolidating my media from last year, but I don't have the definitive Idol performances.   I have gone through a few, but I would like your opinions on the best media to have for my collection.  I am interested most in audio or visual quality, with the full songs but if there are some with defining moments (like WB) then I would like your opinions.

Cornelius,

I watched everything upped   "back in the day" and strictly from the standpoint of  the total audio/video package it is hard to go wrong with MJ's (yes, that MJ) videos, she had a decent camera and a steady hand and didn't scream out during the performance,  she goes by the name krunkgroovy (sp)  or something.  The first two concerts that  Kat performed (DC and Richmond, VA)  MJ got one song from each, they are more or less the definitive (early)  "white dress" performances.  Kat's voice is kind of weak, not in quality,  but in power and you can really hear it but she looks great.  I upped her original  wmv conversions that  she had on the blog back in July, and here those are:

Name: Kat_DC_BHCT.wmv
Size: 19MB

The download link is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/rpiavs

Name: Richmond_VA_OTR.wmv
Size: 23MB

There are a few files that have very good video  and have terrible audio quality, if you know your way around with the video editing software you might be able to marry the vid with decent audio from the same concert, if you can find it.  The condenser microphones on the digital cameras  often get overwhelmed by the sound levels, especially when the person is sitting close,  and go "staticly".

Throughout the tour Katharine showed a tendency  to mix it up and change the way she sang the songs, so as far as definitive performance that might be a personal choice.  Do you like a little raspiness in Think?  She did that a few times late in the tour after her voice was back to full strength.  The octave jump at the end of SOTR?  She experimented with this ending. Or prefer the version with more runs?  A la David Foster's version.

Rather than try to weed though the files I just burned the whole lot to CD-R ( 10 discs total) and stuck them in a drawer.   I know that some are absolute garbage but the fact of the matter is I don't want to throw away a gem and end up kicking myself later for it.

Just to give you some ideas:

1. Her first Think performance in  San Diego (she dropped some lyrics, IIRC) might be a good one and if not that  one then the next performance at The Pond.

2. Her "crazed woman" performance in Texas were she worked the crowd is fascinating theater if not a particularly great vocal.  She is so winded by the time she retakes the stage she just dances and lets the canned background vocals do the singing.

3. Her singing  of SOTR to "little Miss Pickler" has to be considered a classic, perhaps a must have, look for the version were a KMFer tacked on the end of a lesser file to the best file to make a complete version.

4.  The swing through the northwest was a good time for Kat vocally but the video is a bit sparse. Some of the far away video has great audio.   Look there for POWER versions of Think and octave jumps of SOTR.

5. High quality  versions of BHATCT are hard to come by.  She sang it really, really  well (again, my opinion)  just a handful of times and a lot of non-Kat fans (your best video source, BTW) stopped recording it, so  keep an eye (or ear, as the case may be)  out for one of the really good ones.

I hope this helps you C, as I said on this matter I punted and burned it all to disc.

That was me! My first venture into MovieMaker. It has some lousy camera work and is often out of focus but still has some brilliant moments, I'd put it up at the top of the list too. The merge is painfully obvious but better than just cutting off at that particular moment. Thank god for both of these videographers or this moment would just be myth. No one else has stepped forth in all this time with any additional video. I wonder how many more such moments there were that no one caught that we just do not even know about?

Oops - in case you didn't know, everything I have is at www.katsconcerts.com

I can arrange a simpler way of viewing all of the images from a single page if you like, something I have been meaning to do anyway.

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on you for your expert opinions.

I know about KC, but there is a lot of material there and rather than go through it all, I was looking for a guide.

BTW, CRB thanks for the update to the thread on IACBTMN. Its a great story. Personally I think that Kat's version as she acted it out was way better than what Meatloaf had in his mind it should be and as he scripted for the vid with Marion Raven.
