Thanks again for providing the d/l of this--because I'll probably never catch an actual TV appearance of Kat on the entertainment mag shows. Not that it matters if you can watch it here--and in digital quality besides. If only those shows would announce these things several days in advance...but they believe in setting up a show at the 11th hour and give viewers unexpected scoops. Then there's those ET 'Last-Minute News' things, which should be 'First Minute News.' So we can forget about 'Ordinary World' being debuted then on the parade. I thought we'd be seeing that soon after hearing that 'O Come All Ye Faithful was recorded with that and the TVgasm site saying it'd be released very soon. Maybe Kat changed it at the last minute after the leak. But I believe her when she says 'Better Off Alone' is an anthem for the new year. The title seems like it's saying it's better off to be alone on New Year's Day--which most people probably wouldn't want unless they were a loner. There must be other positive messages in the lyrics that I couldn't really get in that clip other than one line. That song really takes Kat back to a more basic blues sound that I know she loves to do and should do more. I have a feeling there's some belting notes in there at the end that should go over very well with audiences watching that morning. That float looked like the set of a children's show though. Yes, I know from experience of watching and attending the Rose Festival Parade in Portland every June that floats look primitive sometimes until they actually get out there with the flowers attached to them. On Kat's bulimia comment: I hope people will understand where she's coming from there when she says the less a person knows, the better. Of course, E! had to give that sensationalistic title that Kat says something....SHOCKING! That won't help matters in getting the idiotic out there to twist it all around. I really agreed with her--though a lot of people have probably been afraid to say that about how eating disorders can get almost glamourized on TV shows. Now that Kat was brave enough to say it--I hope people will understand and work toward making that more of a reality. That marriage question seemed to get an unsure answer from Kat--even though I think she just didn't want to talk about it. I'm guessing this was taped yesterday. I'm surprised they did rehearsals already this week...but they may have done it earlier for Kat because of her wisdom teeth surgery that will likely keep her out of commission into the first of next week.

Well, hearing those lines helps me put the song in better context now. It's a song about being in a relationship--but needing time alone for a little while to start the new year off right. That still sounds like a loner song, though I can get into the meaning of what the song is trying to convey. The "Taking some time" line obviously means that the singer is taking time away to get her spirit renewed before resuming a relationship. That's how I perceive it anyway. There's probably more there that will help carve out a better meaning for starting a new year off right. Thanks, Simon, for looping it. I couldn't understand the lines on the intial viewing--and having it drilled into our heads helps get a heads-up on things...only to be probably and ultimately wrong.

OK, Better Off Alone. Now that I think about this. This is a woman power song. I'm guessing it's something about being in a relationship where you aren't getting what you want or need and thus....she's better off alone. She doesn't need this guy. So her New Year's Resolution is starting over fresh and free. She isn't better off alone in general...but she's better off alone compared to being with that loser. What she gets asked about marriage? Again? First OK Mag...now this? I guess you can't be with someone for more than a year and not be asked about this. I suppose they think...."Well you haven't dumped Nick yet...you must be serious about him because no self-respecting hottie like you would stick around with someone like him if you didn't really & truly love him. Hello BIGSHADY? sorry to shout. I've been thinking about which channels to record for the Tournament. There are a lot. ABC(-HD) NBC(-HD) Home and Garden (HGTV) Travel Discovery-HD KTLA (Los Angeles) KTLA-HD (Los Angeles only?) Telemundo Univision Others? (If anyone knows any, please post) But I think Travel, KTLA and Discovery are showing the same feed (see below "Is KTLA's feed carried by Travel and Discovery-HD?") Are you able to transfer Discovery-HD or KTLA-HD to your computer via Firewire? I can't do Disc-HD. I think it's copy protected. But if you can, it would be great, because that broadcast is true HD. Most others appear to be non-HD shows, even though ABC and NBC are simulcast on HD channels. Evidence seems pretty solid that KTLA-HD [SoCal local] = Discovery-HD [national] = Travel Channel [national, but in SD not HD], which is why I was wondering if you were able to Firewire transfer KTLA-HD. I'm thinking of capping: NBC-HD 8-9:30 (or whenever it ends) [HD channel, but I don't think the program is really HD] ABC-HD 8-10 (or whenever it ends) [HD channel, but I don't think the program is really HD] HGTV 7-10:15 (or whenever it ends) [analog cap to DVDR] Univision 8-10 [VCR] Then Travel Channel 10:30 - 1 (or a later rebroadcast) [DIGITAL] I think that would get everything that I know about except Telemundo The only problem is that I can't get the true HD coverage capped (Disc-HD). I've never had a problem where I'd get the video, but not the audio. If you open the TS in Gspot, does it list any audio on the left side? Does SD on its "normal" SD channel always/sometimes/never work? Did you ever get MPEG2repair? http://users.adelphia.net/~mwilczyn/mpeg2repair/ You can open the TS in that program, then click "Find PID's" and you should see an "Audio PID" in the Status part of the window. I forget: How do you diagnose that you don't have audio? DGindex doesn't give an AC3, MPC doesn't play audio?
