There's that request in there by someone (I forget who ), so I thought I'd just make this thread here for any and all input or questions, which are welcome!  I'm always looking to improve things if I can.

I made a new "Latest Additions" list in the first post, so that people won't have to sift through stuff they already have. Right now, I'm going back in time encoding and uploading in no particular order and putting up some of the stuff I had.
Some want small videos fast, some want "super high res at any cost of file size" (CRB ). I'm aiming for the crowd who wants "medium to medium-high" quality and "not tiny, but not too big files". Mainly because my setup isn't good enough for "super high res at any cost of file size"!

So I'm going with: 720x480 resolution displayed at 640x480, stereo audio, either AC3 or MP3.

...until vinman or trist comes back or someone with a better setup comes along at which point I will gladly step aside!

Larry King is up! well not quite

I started uploading the 3 parts of Larry King plus a small 8mb sample. See the media thread ("Interviews...") for the links. Since Rapidshare won't allow download of all of them without waiting in between, I thought it makes sense to give people a head start on the download while I'm uploading.

The video is split with HJsplit, so for recreating the video file, please see the instructions in the post called "Downloading and Other Questions" in that thread, or read the readme file inside each zipped part.

Starting to get the Larry King Live pieces now, I had sort of given up hope of ever getting this broadcast in this quality. The sample looks great, diff!

The Early Show appearance is up under "Performances, nonAI." I've slowed down on my uploads because I'm working on a better way to deinterlace, filter and encode. sorry.

My videos are best viewed with VLC or Media Player Classic.  VLC seems to be the only one that reads the video settings properly and displays it in the right proportions "right out of the box." MPC needs to be told to use the "4:3 display aspect ratio" setting. For details see the post in the Stuff thread under "Media viewing/listening tips, Recommended Media Players". For Windows Media Player, I think you need version 10 or later to be able to change the aspect ratio. If you can only change the pixel aspect ratio, try 0.889.

After some weeks of testing, we decided to go back to our good old 100-MB-per-file limit. The reason is that users felt forced to use the full 300 MB for their archives. Imagine you upload a 300 MB file and for some reasons the upload aborts after 290 MB. You will have to re-upload the whole file in order to complete your upload. Same for downloading. Free-users are not able to resume aborted downloads. Think about modem-users having to re-download a 300 MB file because their provider decided to hang up the modem at 290 MB for some reason. Furthermore you get 3 premium-points for 3*100 MB and just 1 premium-point for 1*300 MB. A win for everyone. Please use programs like WinRar to compress your files to multi-part archives, if they are bigger than 100 MB.

So with only 10 days of inactivity between downloads before deletion and a maximum of 100 MB files, Rapidshare is back to the stone ages.

yep that link sure looks bad. I think these things happen for a reason. I went back and looked at this video. It was one of the first ones I did, and it sort of sucks. So I made a better one. had to clean up some of the noise in the original source. sharpened it up a little too.

CRB: 100mb, 10days?!


I'm going to have to check out some new sites.

interviews and performances are now up! If there's one thing to learn from The Today Show, The Early Show and R+K, it's Ann, Matt, Hannah, Kelly and Donald have the McPheever but bad.

These are going back further than the other videos, back when the captures were from analog cable so they're a little bit noisier than the more recent ones.

There's also a small extra video (14 seconds) from the Today Show. I forgot to add it in the final splice, right before the Rainbow segment. It captures Kat's true sweet nature doesn't it? "The camera's not for me, it's for you girls, wave!"

Thanks for those last two differentlife, the video looks a tad softer than some of your other ones, perhaps because it was analog,  but still a big, huge improvement from the versions that I had. Keep up the good work.

caused her to momentarily forget Taylor's last name. The source capture was pretty grainy and I smoothed it, but not so much that people looked like wax figures.

Differentlife, just a heads up that Rapidshare still has the 100 MB file size but they have moved the date between downloads out to 45 days, so you might want to start using it again for some of your stuff.
